Maybe the father was on a packed train and tried to protect his child from getting crushed? Maybe he had trouble getting on the train because everyone shoved their way in. Maybe it was crowded and it was difficult to move. Maybe he complained to his wife who was just tired of hearing it. Maybe she yelled at him. Who knows what actually happened. Anyway, public spats always look bad. Hope the two made up and little johnny was conceived. Happy endings.

JTodayIsCowards, Please do not mixup people's comments with dolphins. BTW, I would not show the cove here without some sort of intro, where the producer is stated to have put in some Hollywood/story telling effects, for effect. It is just a town that might consider doing thing differently. People have a tendency to generalize to populations, as we often see here in Japan about foreigners. Is it a balanced documentary?

“They’ve used the Pacific Ocean as a great defense to producing documents,” said Graham Esdale, a lawyer in Montgomery, Alabama, who has sued Toyota. “If Ford or General Motors tells you something and you don’t believe that it’s right, you can get a court order to go get access to the documents instead of relying on them. We can just go there and start poring through documents. We don’t have that with the Japanese manufacturers.” Why? Should be the first thing required to do business in another country.

Madverts - they listened to their lawyers and psychologists, I suppose. Secular society does the same. People who hurt children should be put away for good. You and I know that. Why does our society allow them out? It may be an International organization. What do you think? How is the UN? Are the Europeans in on it too? We all have heard about real rings that buy and sell children and produce ... it is enough. Let us all work together, with the church as well, to put a stop to these things...for the children all over the world. Re-read my link, please: http://www.usccb.org/comm/archives/2010/10-058.shtml

On behalf of the Catholic bishops of the United States, we, the members of the Executive Committee of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, write both to express our deep concern for those harmed by the crime and sin of sexual abuse by clergy and to express our profound gratitude for the assistance that Pope Benedict XVI has given us in our efforts to respond to victims, deal with perpetrators and to create safe environments for children. The recent emergence of more reports of sexual abuse by clergy saddens and angers the Church and causes us shame. If there is anywhere that children should be safe, it should be in their homes and in the Church.
We know from our experience how Pope Benedict is deeply concerned for those who have been harmed by sexual abuse and how he has strengthened the Church’s response to victims and supported our efforts to deal with perpetrators. We continue to intensify our efforts to provide safe environments for children in our parishes and schools. Further, we work with others in our communities to address the prevalence of sexual abuse in the larger society.
One of the most touching moments of the Holy Father’s visit to the United States in 2008 was his private conversation with victims/survivors at the Apostolic Nunciature in Washington. Pope Benedict heard firsthand how sexual abuse has devastated lives. The Holy Father spoke with each person and provided every one time to speak freely to him. They shared their painful experiences and he listened, often clasping their hands and responding tenderly and reassuringly.
With the support of both Pope John Paul II and Pope Benedict XVI, we bishops have made a vigorous commitment to do everything in our power to prevent abuse from happening to children. We live out this commitment through the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People, which calls us to respond with compassion to victims/survivors, to work diligently to screen those working with children and young people in the Church, to provide child abuse awareness and prevention education, to report suspected abuse to civil law enforcement, and to account for our efforts to protect children and youth through an external annual national audit.
As we accompany Christ in His passion and death during this Holy Week, we stand with our Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI in prayer for the victims of sexual abuse, for the entire Church and for the world.

I think there is some truth to what the Vatican is saying. Abortion, same-sex marriage, Euthanasia, etc... are all controversal issues and the church sits there telling the proponents of these ideologies that they are wrong. Sure, if I did not sit on the churches side in these controversal things, then I would try to identify the church with the bad behavior of a few. I wouldn't let up until all credibility was destroyed. Then I could pursue my agenda unopposed. Makes sense to me. Will it work? I hope not for the sake of the society that we now know.

The church is pro-Life and pro-Family. I wonder if this moral position is "infallible" like statements of Faith. Does anyone know?

Beautiful as Easter should be. Kyoto is just beautiful this time of year and the church was packed with people in praise of the great hope of Easter. Like these flowers blooming.

Good. This thing will get fined tuned through the courts, I hope. The student loan takeover is a good thing, I hope. It looks that way. But adaydream has a point. Tuition may increase more than one would like. Government, in the end, will pick up the tab after ten years for several professions. Let the students borrow.

I'll bet the church is one of the safest places for children now. There is zero tolerance for this activity. As opposed to looking up registered sex offenders in your area in the States. My area looks like a christmas tree. Too many too count out on the streets. Some of those crimes committed should have put those people off the streets for good. Why are they allowed to strike again? It is wrong in the church and outside of it. The church in the States at least has cleaned up its act. How about secular society?

Unfortunately cleo, people are nice sometimes and not at others. Maybe anything that Obama does is wrong because of racism. Maybe there is something against the immigrants (let them rot). Maybe there is a lack of a conscience clause so that a doctor has to accept the insurance payment (values money) and on the other side of the coin forced to terminate the life of a fetus (values moral behavior). Maybe people do not want their tax dollars paying for certain procedures. Maybe it is the forced pay system or fines (why not just have an income tax). Maybe it is the extra layer of government that will come into being. Maybe it is the knowledge that government usually is not efficient. Maybe people are afraid of the costs. Maybe the Federal government will take away State rights to make this all work (most States have conscience clauses for health care and have passed a voluntary payment scheme for healthcare). Maybe it was the way it was passed with some constitutional issues. Maybe some see it as a power grab by an already too big central government. Maybe the 85% of the people that have health care feel the quality will drop. Maybe a fear of "Big Bother" controlling everything.
A lot of ifs out there and to just believe in "Trust Me" from a government is dangerous.
One thing for certain something had to be done. All people should have health care. I hope the constitutional issues are worked out so that people can live and act according to their conscience, State rights are preserved, individuals are not fined, quality remains, and the marginalized (other 15%) are taken care of. I think all Americans wish this. However, do we want a system like China has?
The extremes bother me, on the right and the left. They are both flirting with totalitarianism: as we saw in the 20th century between the fascists and communists. They both crushed the freedom of people for the "benefit" of people.

Mathematicians get knowledge of math by math. Scientists get knowledge of the logical Universe by using science. Philosophers use the constructs of philosophy. Christians use prayer. Death was swallowed up as an act of Love in prayer. Easter must be coming...speaking of/believing in life after death.

I think this article brought shame to the Japanese. Reflects badly on their culture. Shame. I have never had anyone call me out on a train and if they did I would just move away from the rude individual. A lot of nutters out there, especially driving, without any sense of manners. To be frank, most people are very nice and kind here, with a lot of patience. Some say only 1% are ill mannered. But that is a lot of people!.

"What is Truth?" Sad part about that question is that it is also an answer. However, we see such wonderful, joyful, and good things in life that I must keep moving towards whatever that is. We also see the irrational elements such as violence, suffering and death; which crys out for justice and healing. Can whatever that is have a solution for the otherside of the coin of life. At times I sense this to be true and historical events point, that indeed it is true. "What is Truth?", perhaps an opening of the heart. We are pilgrims getting only a glimmer of any Truth, lying between absurdity and religious fanaticism. Oh well, time to make supper for the beautiful children. Reality is, what it is.

Grafton - The bacteria is taken into account, in their own capacity. Remember the present material world is just a moment of all history. It is the whole Universe that Christianity speaks about. All of history. It is certainly difficult to know for sure these things, but if it is reasonable then we can get somewhere.
There was a meeting of Greek Philosophy and Hebrew Wisdom literature in history, which set the stage for the spread of Christianity. It was an event that happened. Like a birth of a child. Joyful and it goes beyond reason. To experience? Something between the two and yet is both. Who can make such promises of life? A fictional being? Perhaps, but boy does it raise up ones spirit to great heights, even if false. And when people die, it is comforting. Maybe it is all meaningless, but I hope I never find that out. I have not been convinced on the "this is all there is" view of the world. Maybe one day, and I am sure I will cry.
You know "this is all there is" view of the world has a lot of truth to it and shows a need for "salvation" (maybe no need, except for love of others). It does one well to reflect on the seriousness of their and others shared, present state.

USARonin is funny. Cyberspace is better than nothing I suppose, but is it the same as real human interaction? I do not think so, but it sure is easier. Just turn it on and off.
Nippon - the present is the past unfolding into the future - ney. Your direction is noteworthy. Each moment really is new but for how long? How many other events in history are we running into in the present? Does that event 2000 years ago have any bearing on us? Everything in history leaves its footprint. Even the beginning of the universe's footprint was found by Nasa (look up NASA - NASA Satellite Glimpses Universe's First Trillionth of a Second). We also leave our own footprint for others to deal with.

The search for truth will continue Nessie. The questions of life after death and why we are here? What is beauty, good, honorable and worthwhile? The scientific method cannot answer these questions. Nevertheless, we still ask them. There just may be Truth and an ethical one at that, that holds the key to life itself.
The historical method of studying the past history of humankind is useful for studying the past, but kind of keeps it there so it is seen as having no relevance for us today. It just might have some relevance for us. One example would be your speaking English. In fact, what do you have that was not given to you via the past? Your genes...from your father and mother, etc...even what you say is ...already past.
