"Nemawashi" Maybe it works. Or is it do as I say and "see no evil, speak no evil, and hear no evil." Harmonious, but reality is sometimes checked because it does not fit with the program. Thus the long response time to real life taking issues. Humility is also being realistic. Silence to problems for the sake of harmony can and does result in inaction and sometimes even injustice.

My first thoughts on reading this was "How sad, people praying to God and having a catastrophe happen." Very tragic. People just try their best with the cultural they are handed. Let us not forget the great heritage of the Moors in Spain where Christain and Muslem scholars worked together to translate the Greek writings. In fact, I read that the classical Greek was translated from Arabic to Latin for Christian Europe. An example for today's world to follow. In addition, I do think that in the Old Testament when Moses crossed the Red Sea and many Egyptians were kill, God told the Hebrews that He takes no pleasure in the distruction of his creatures, nor should the Hebrews. neverknow2: From a Human Christian American. I apologize for the lack of compassion shown by some. Be assured that it is not all of us. Irreverence is never a virtue. A prayer goes out to the poor families of those who have passed on. May they RIP.

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/02/18/business/18workers.html : Here is an article about what this ill person was angry about. What got me is that this man became obsessed with the IRS and government. An obsession for 20 some years to where it drove him to madness. A lessen for all of us during lent. Let the offense go, be at peace with yourself. As you forgive, so are you forgiven.

Health insurance should be more as well for obese people, if there is no medical reason for the fat. I complain about the small portions in Japan but I did lose 20Kg. Probably saved my life.

"The biggest risk for Toyota lies in how it is handling the crisis. If it were proved that executives had actively tried to cover up the problem, the consequences could be huge. Eighteen months ago the former chairman of truck-maker Mitsubishi was found guilty of professional negligence and received a two-year jail sentence after a truck made by the company crashed because of a defect, killing its driver." http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2010/feb/07/toyota-veer-off-course

I think the president of toyota should be personally held responsible if something like this ever happens again. To act like InTheKnow responded is the root cause of the problem. It really is "Deny, minimize, delay, obfuscate, apologize" which is wishful thinking as people die. Now it is turning into "blame the victim" or toyota is the victim. Another tactic that may backfire. Humility is the best way forward. Nothing is perfect and we must all be alert to when things start to go wrong.
A reality check is in store for all industry. What does China do to their executives who blatently disregard the safety of the public? Now there is a reality check.

If you have a car accident because of the pedal or brakes in the Prius and you knew about it without getting them fixed, you personally are liable. Do not drive your vehicles without getting them fixed. He was correct.

Be careful of those offering you change, utopia, if you do as I say. Sure Obama has some light but I do have my concerns. For instance, the lack of respect and half lies about the Supreme Court (one of the last areas we still have respect for as Americans). "Obama Owes the High Court an Apology": http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704878904575031423261840744.html?mod=googlenews_wsj.

Those American values Obama spoke of are basically shared human values. Americans have no unique claim to them. And I do not like the cult of blood and soil.Had enough of it in the 20th century. Debt forgiveness forall who accept the gift.

Freedom and Truth go hand in hand, but when our own community is under attack we have to respond. Unfortunately, making both parties a partaker of some very horrible things. There is only one winner here and that is darkness. Neither true Christian nor true Muslim light shines on such actions. The leaders of both communities should consider coming together to put an end to this senseless slaughter.

"The spirit of the law." It is evident that the spirit of the law has been followed with the union of American family with the Japanese widow and child. Goodness must be present in the people who make judgement calls. Maybe we are missing something, but I think that whoever made this call was cold hearted.

What a nice place this would be if many of the streets were for pedestrians and bicyclists only. A line right down the middle of the road giving a side for people to walk and the other side for bicyclists. These small streets would be a joy to live on. About this lady and perhaps a truck running a red light, as people always do here, is just a tragic event. She might have just been thinking of the walk sign and went without thinking or thinking if she got everything. In this cast stopping would not have helped for others called for help. The truck drive must be just devastated. Probably has a family to feed. I think there is a heafty fine as well and perhaps his children would starve. Tough situation. BTW, what would have happened to him/her if he/she had stopped?
