I was quite devastated last night on reading this. I will say that the media has a moral responsibility towards the civil society. It is evident that there is a connection between what was presented on TV and what this 17 year old did. I am glad I've never seen this show. In fact, when I was in America I got cable TV (wish I could have picked the channels because I would not have supported a few) because what came over the airways in no way reflected the values I want to install into my children. I think even Clinton said " just turn it off ".

King David. "The Greek word for converting means: to rethink-to question one's own and common way of living; to allow God to enter into the criteria of one's life; to not merely judge according to the current opinions." You all know the story. I hope that this situation turns out the same for Tiger Woods. I think it will.

Very sad. Evil child? Oxymoron. Numbskull sounds like it is a late abortion. Still sad. We have to really look to the heavens and know all is well. Hopefully the child picks this up. Evil child? No never. We must all pray.

I think Obama presents himself well. A politician. Nothing more. Science, reason and law are all related. Are the facts of Science up to the majority vote? Neither are inalienable rights and the moral order. Logic as always seen it this way, from the Chinese and Greek thinkers to the present. Hope Obama does as well. However, his voting record in the Senate is said to have been ... Let us pray that he and his team understands the enormous responsibility they have under...

Someone said accidents cause are like boiling a frog. Throw a frog in hot water and he will jump out. Slowly heat it up and the frog will stay and slowly get boiled. Bad habits are to blame. Why would one have to press on the brakes or gas so hard when children are around. It is an accident and the root cause analysis might be considered to prevent it from happening again. This is the only value of suing. To prevent being sued, things happen in the USA. Driver training is important. Manners on the road especially on small streets. Supervision of children. Children are unpredictable. Yes, the man is innocent and the system is at fault. The fault must be found and mitigated. Not just a "I am sorry" and nothing changes.

numbskull. Chill. I would say that it would be nice if we were non relational and did not need the traditional family for the continuance of our species. But we do. Everyone will be hurt here in that family. Why cause such pain to the people you love? Why would one make pain as part of your family, by choice? And how long will it take for the hurt to heal, if it even will? I wish that family the best. There is no honor in making choices that cause such pain to the ones you love.
For not being any of our business, we all have a lot to say about it. I guess I am just a numbskull too.

tkoind2 vs Bgood 41 : Good posts. Collective responsibility vs individual rights. Should be able to have both. Personally I think Japan has done quite well and is more caring than the US, except for the christian organizations in the US.
Nisegaijin makes some good points about big government not always being the solution. One principle we might remember is subsidiarity: subsidiarity is an organizing principle that matters ought to be handled by the smallest, lowest or least centralized competent authority.

Ha.. They will have this fully functioning by 2012;-) They are just studying the first trillionth of a second of the beginnings of the Universe. That is all. Might bring a new Universe into existance;-) Just incredible that we are able to do this or even to know about the first trillionth of a second of the beginning of the universe. Pretty fine measurement.

No money and there are the unemployed. Is this an Oxymoron? Health care as a national priority? Start training people. Put them to work. Barter if we have to.
No one should be left to suffer because they do not have Insurance. Everyone gets healthcare in the USA right now. It is just that the burden falls on the taxpayer one way or another. Everyone should contribute, for all get sick. Immigration should be orderly.
Now this bill should pass and be fine tuned with the suggestions put forth by Molenir. Politics must be put aside for the common good. No money and people not working just does not make sense to me. Money is a measure of productivity of goods and services. Offer people work in the health care industry, put feedback mechanisms in to fine tune the system quickly with input from all the stake holders.
Once we get a system running that is efficient and effective we should work with others in the world to help all of humanity. A bit altruistic and has a big danger of the "ends justifying the means". This should never be the case. The human person and their dignity should be central. From thence we could make proper choices.
As a nation, the USA has the opportunity to really help out the world, if we do not make a mess out of it. Also, one must be aware that a solution is never final. Compromises must be made. This bill is for the common good; collective and individual good. But it does have intrinsic dangers of eroding the freedoms of the individual. The constitution must be considered and will be. That is why the result of this exercise should be quite good and could be a shining light. It is compassionate for the masses and must protect the rights of the individual. Very interesting.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/8385893.stm has a picture of an esthetic minarat with a church steeple in the background. Not bad. 'The Vatican on Monday endorsed a statement by the conference of Swiss Bishops criticising the vote for heightening "the problems of cohabitation between religions and cultures".' The Swiss are pragmatic. Things will work out over time... a give and take. Nothing easy in this world.

Sometimes I learn in these discussions. I wrote before that this was an issue of religious freedom. But that is not the whole story as I can see from the Z..above's post... I love the New England towns. The beautiful white churches. Switzerland is very similar with the beauty of the churches in the landscape. I would not want money to change the character of these towns, especially something so foreign as minarets. Zoning must be enforced. Perhaps we can understand the Saudis now. They may be right. Religious freedom? Yes. Having no concern for the dominate cultures sensitivities in the name of "My Rights" is arrogant and offensive and tramples on the dignity of the dominate culture. What about the minority? There are zoning procedures. Work through the process peacefully and with good will. As people get to know each other and work together, things will change in its own time. The immigrants should be thankful for the freedoms they have and the generosity they have already received from the dominate culture. Why create conflict with a people who have given so much? Demanding "My Rights", where it destroys the beauty of the dominate culture is not a nice way to repay the kindness...Maybe a compromise somewhere...make those things look like steeples might work.

Should religious freedom be a right? I think this decision should go to the International World Court. Hopefully, religious freedom will prevail to the benefit of all peoples. The decision should be binding on all countries.

Sad that many do not recognize that a human person has begun. Quite plain really. Perhaps most do recognize a person in the baby palace, but it does not matter. This is even sadder, for many in the modern world to know life is taken but have no compassion for it. Hellbound - you were wanted? Most of us were surprises. Laissey faire attitude to the taking of life must always be condemned. And a majority vote does not override the natural moral order. It exist nevertheless, and those that go against it and teach others to go against it, and never return before death...I just hope mercy overrides justice.
