Paparazzi or homicidal fan? Does Bieber have a detector to tell him which? I don't think so.

The police arrested the wrong person/people, if paparazzi are worthy of the title. The paparazzi are clearly the source of the speeding. Let them go, and we will have another dead Diana.

    I'd rather the police

    give no explanation

Yes, and you too trust authorities far too much Cleo! Of course the police should give an explanation or they will resort to arresting anyone!

Yes, any damned fool can play the cherry pick/mix and match with people's quotes game. You want to keep playing?

    think firearms and explosives

Firearms are mentioned in the article. Explosives are not. I am not going to assume.

But you know, near every car in Britain has an explosive. You call it petrol. I call it gasoline. There are also road flares. Then we have those pesky farmers with their explosive fertilizers.

I'd rather the police investigated 57 suspicious incidents that turned out to be nothing

Who the Devil said anything against investigations???? My problem was terrorism charges out of the blue and vital but missing detail.

a lot of the taxes the japanese pay to the US government, for the staioning of their soldiers in Japan, were generated by the American consumer buying japanese manufactured products

I just cannot figure out why you did not factor the price of tea in China into that formula! LOL

I never thought I would ever see anyone try so hard to link the American consumer to the Japanese taxpayer to the U.S. military! Please. I am an American citizen and I DONT want to be linked to the U.S. military and government AT ALL.

But I simply posit that since the American military is stationed here, like it or not, (and putting Japan on the map of those who call America enemy among other things I mentioned) its not at all odd for Japanese to expect America to defend Japan, even those crumby islands.

I'm not sure what particular problem you are having with this arrest.

You go on to answer the question real nice all by yourself. The details man. There are not any that make an assumption of terror plots valid, but there are the terror charges.

While I understand your desire for people not to jump to conclusions, the opposite is also wise.

Caution is wise. Jumping to conclusions never is!

Certainly, arresting and detaining the involved suspects seems reasonable considering that weapons were found in their car

I may be extremely distrusting of authority, but I don't consider that a problem. You are ALWAYS extremely trusting of authority and I find that to be a MASSIVE problem. Your trust is revealed as just prior to what I quoted you above, you said:

The types of weapons and materials are not revealed in this article.

You give the authorities the benefit of the doubt, and its a fool's errand.

It's also funny to see people who usually comment on how American military should get out of Japan for being such a burden doing a U- turn and saying that US has pledged to promise and defend Japan when it suits them. Kinda double standards isn't it ?

Yes and no. Fact is they are here and use Japanese land and money. One might not want the appointed bodyguard, but if their salary is drawn from someone's account, its not odd to expect some work, is it?

I can only speak for myself, but I want the American military out, I want them out of affairs on the islands, and I do live here in Japan, and my tax money does go to them.

And contrary to troyinjapan's assertation, I am on the Japanese side of the fence, but I would like to see these islands returned to China. Don't get me wrong, I don't think Japan MUST do it. I think the Chinese have lacked military control for so long, they no longer have a valid claim, and Japanese military control, followed by American military control, followed by giving the islands to Japan, followed by Japanese military control means the islands belong to Japan in reality, and this pattern is historically valid. But the trouble is that if Japan goes that route, they further validate the doctrine of "might makes right", and they may as well shut up about the Kuriles.

Japan took the islands in a hostile move. It can keep the islands yes, but its not a good precedent for the future or Sino-Japanese relations. Japan should be more civilized, admit how it obtained the islands, reject that, and give them back to China.

The certain "bent" that buy a magazine, think it important to them. And what of it?

Bingo! So why is this in the news? Its their bent, and their petition to the magazine they subscribe to. But its being relayed as an issue of international import.

Girls, sometimes look to a fashion magazine for tips/ guidance.

So they believe everything they see and will go bulimic/anorexic because of some pictures? There is a greater problem here, you just don't want to admit it.

    I

f the model is photoshopped to appear free of a ribcage and stick-like arms, the look is unobtainable on a normal, healthy person.

Absolutely not true. It depends on the person. Again, there is a bigger problem here, and its entertaining the unreality that one person can successfully mimic the body of another. All the photoshopping has done is carry the problem on to yet another natural conclusion. But the problem has been around and will continue to be around until concerned people develop real strategies to combat it, and THIS AINT IT.

Thanks for the link, but as it was not Seventeen magazine, its a fail. As that one picture was the most bizarre and extreme example EVER, its a fail. Many of the other pictures were far more representative of what is being done with photoshopping, and yes, they look normal and healthy, even the one of Kate Winslet. Its just that that ISNT Kate Winslet in reality. Doesn't matter. Seeking to look like Kate Winslet to the point of harming oneself is one of the core problems. And the only way to combat that constantly recurring foolishness is by education.

I would say that another of the core problems is simple false advertising. And that would be the best grounds to ending this relentless photoshopping in law if anyone really cared enough to end it. But what would happen is that America would wind up importing more foreign models, as would Britain and Canada.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. All schools need to get serious about educating students on how not to get fat in the first place. All governments of countries with obesity problems need to ensure that companies promoting unhealthy diets and lifestyles either change or fail.

You have to be pretty dumb to grow illegal herbs in a place like that.

More so than that, you have to be pretty dumb to make this herb illegal!

    Easy enough to see.

Images on the eyes do not necessitate a flapping of the gums.

I can imagine no one had the guts to complain to the couple about it and instead went to the "experts" - the police, for them to handle it.

What I know for sure is that at least one did not have the guts to shut up. If the cops come knocking, you just feign ignorance. At that point you fairly say the plants belong to so and so, but you don't have to admit you thought it was marijuana all along. In fact, you tell the police to their face that you cannot possibly be expected to recognize marijuana, as its illegal!

You have to be pretty dumb to grow illegal herbs in a place like that.

I don't know. It may have been a spot on the roof hidden to view. It seriously might have been a nosey neighbor who saw someone in an odd place and decided to investigate, and otherwise, no one would have been any wiser.

“The illegal acts of the Japanese right-wing activists severely violate Chinese territorial sovereignty.

Cue violins. Melodramatic statements over two nuts swimming to an island gives the acts of the nuts credence. Should have taken the bull by the horns and said "These two fools swimming to our islands changes nothing; except to expose two fools. They really should not violate our sovereignty, but I hope they had a nice visit to China!"

I don't reallyconsider 1970 to be "ancient times". I remember it pretty well.

The PRC's date of joining the U.N. is not relevant. China existed long before the U.N. and even longer before the U.N. decided to recognize and admit the PRC....so they could finally file their claim to the islands.

You seem to have reality confused with paperwork, a common mental block among conservatives, I know.

A statement like that is certainly worth an example or two.

And yeah, I would like to see those examples come from this mag that claimed to never print such photos. That should be interesting!

Spoken by one who is looking to draw attention by offending, rather than educating.

Hardly. These are just images in a magazine. It takes a certain bent to think this is so important.

A lot of young girls feel frustration with this; as it is an impossible goal.

How did images in a magazine turn into a goal?? However they did, THERE is your trouble, not the images.

so much so the result looks deformed.

A statement like that is certainly worth an example or two.

to see models in their natural slimness

    Right....one country's "slim" is another country's "husky".

15 plants for personal use? i'm afraid that's not really gonna stand in a court of law.

You mean as a defense against a possible accusation of being drug dealers? Well, if anyone thinks the number cannot possibly be for personal use, they don't know a damned thing about marijuana.

Anyway, why can't neighbors just keep their fat mouths shut? Wish I knew who the snitch was so I could go have a word with them.
