love Chinese made movies, some of the best in the world, but isn't the >theme of combat and ancient warriors totally played out?

If it weren't combat and ancient warriors and full of king-fu who'd watch it? The global non-chinese forced to read subtitles market I mean.

I can't believe guys in Japan used to dress like this.

It's not just Japan Sarge. We all used to dress funny. I'm kinda partial to those puffy shorts the French use to wear.

Very pretty for her age. But yea, she looks like a poster child for the UN World Food Program. Is she really THAT anorexic?

“Sanlu has been damaged very badly by this tragedy,” Ferrier told >reporters as he announced Fonterra’s annual results. “The brand cannot >be reconstructed.”

Alot of babies have also been very badly damaged, four of them terminally by this tragedyu that Sanlu created. The brand not only should not be reconstructed but those running ther Heibei office and factory should face the dealth pernalty under Chinese law.

it is true from consumers point of view, however from Business point of >view buy everything that shows 'Made in China' low cost high profit !

If China's govt and it's business leaders all feel this way then China is not destined to become the "economic leader" of asia that it aspires to be.

Japanese taxpayers will blindly and obediently follow their government.

If this were true then you woldn't have a constant change of adminstrations.

Thanks Marion. Your input is appreciated. And we'll let it skip that this is about Iwo Jima, not Okinawa.

Taro Aso isn't even looking at the camera. He's distracted by something to his left. Why didn't the cameraman say do-over?

always remember. 99.9% pure bloodline and they gotta do or copy each >other to look different or the same. Ouch.... sorry Wife.

Ha. That's really not so bad since so many j-chicks look pretty good. Imagine an entire country of fuglies with 99.9% pure bloodline. Ew.

The Marines had 862 casualties at the September 1847 Battle of Chapultepec and 35 casualties in the First Barbary War of 1801. I really don't think telling the Marine Corp that Iwo Jima and the Pacific Campaign were "over-rated" is going to fly very far.

The amazing thing about Japanese fashion is that it does often look strange or silly, but yet invariably appears in New York and other cities about 2 years later.

Maybe this guy was a victim, however in the purest sense he had free >will, but the real lessons of WW 2 have not been learnt by Japan (insincere war apologies whose real regret is that they lost and war >criminals whose only real crime was that they led Japan to its >destruction) and this piece of emotion hardly helps.

    Dogdog

I disagree with you. We have been trying continuously to get Japan to re-arm since the Korean War without success. Japan has resisted altering that article 9 in their constitution. It looks to me like they've clearly learned the lesson of WWII, that war itself is wrong. Unfortunately, my country hasn't learnt that at all, the result of being the only major participant in WWII that never knew what it was like to have it's cities bombed. Also unfortunate is that world is full of people and nations which haven't learned the lessons of war, forcing us to continue on our path. What you describe about insincere apologies or regretting losing the war describes a small minority of ultra right wing nationalists, which are treated by Japanese society as the fringe nutbags that they are. This was a touching well written article and I can only thank all those who fought in wars, on any side, for having done their part to keep the rest of us who follow from having to live through the same.

Typical Knee-jerk reaction from a government. Whats wrong with 15 year->olds getting automatic weapons over the counter?

Finland's firearm law of 1998 does not generally permit the ownership of full or select-fire automatic weapons. Preumably you mean semi-automatic.

The fact that the demostrators are Japanese is irrevelant since they constitute a miniscule portion of the general population and they aren't in agreement with their own Ministry of Defense. But we gave these people a democratic form of government which means that these mislead souls, of which there are a great great many all over the world, unfortunately have the right to express their silly opinions. A right which we have to respect.

The election of Aso is a sad day for Japan and the Japanese people, who >had no say in his election. Aso was chosen by the group of right wing >Fascists who have ruled over this country for the past 5 decades.

This makes as much sense as saying the Aryan Nation and the KKK have ruled the United States for decades. Nonsense.

PM Koizumi did some pretty amazing things in terms of expressing >apologies for what Japan did during WW2, the last thing we need is >someone to take things back.

So, you believe that Taro Aso as PM would take back everything his predecessors have done? Destroy the current Sino-Japanese relationship that has been built? You believe that PM Aso would not apologize the way Koizumi did and snicker we'll do it again? Please, let's get real. This is politics and diplomacy and Taro Aso has been Foreign Minister without starting WWIII. Even Hu Jing Tao has made his position clear that a new PM isn't going to wreck what China has worked hard to achieve.
