"Somebody needs to redesign the equestrian unit's uniform; it looks silly - like a circus performer, or a marching band member, or even a cosplayer. I can see that whoever put it together was trying not to be threatening, or hark back to a scarier militaristic era, but sheesh, give the poor guy something respectable to wear."

I'm very partial to the matching socks on the horse myself.

"May I be the first and I sincerely hope not the last to say...what a load of old bollocks! As the husband of an ex JAL flight attendant, this obssession that the Japanese (especially young girls with dreams of one day being attendants themselves) have with all of the supposed 'glamour' makes me wanna vomit."

Well I don't doubt that what you say is true. But I'd hardly call it a "Japanese obsession" since that glamorous image is an American creation (PanAm? TWA?) and still exists right here even today. This despite most Flight Attendants these days being either old ladies or gay guys.

" recently flew back to Tokyo on Qantas and only saw two female flight attendants on board ... and neither of them looked like Satomi Ishihara or Yoko Maki."

The Flight attendants on American Airlines could pass for their mothers.

Frankly I don't think that slowing down steaming speed from say 15k down to 10k is going to make much of a difference on the whale population. However, the savings in fuel consumption from slow-steaming will probably be enough of an enticement to get everyone to accomodate.

Very unlikely that they will find anything. Same goes for the Bigfoot; Sasquatch in Canada. However one can not completely rule out the possibilty of their existence. I for one hage a very difficult time convincing myself that the Patterson film depicts a human in a monkey suit. Not the way the back and shoulder muscle movements are visible. We can do this now in movies with compuer graphics but not bsck in 67 or 68 when the film was shot. This Yeti search is worthwhile, they're empolying IR camera traps which have been succesful in capturing heretofore unknown species of animals in various parts of the world. Should make for good entertainment either way.

"Ossan: no difference between doping and age? hate to break yet another >bubble of yours (along with the one where the Koreans still lead Japan >in medals of all colour, aside from the bronze), but there's a HUGE >difference between a doping offense and using underagers. An offense is >an offense, I agree with you on that,"

    smith

Well that's about as far as you need to agree or disagree. If it's a violation of IOC rules then it's a violation of IOC rules. End of discussion.

Oh and I see that SKorea has a HUGE 3 medal lead on Japan. Both countries having 25-30 medals? I have no idea what gets you so excited over such numbers. My country currently has 102 but you don't hear me chest beating about it, do you?

but to pretend that using a 13 year old is the same as pumping a 16 year >old up with steroids is ludicrous! As one poster thought to bring up >above, it's like when the Canadian snowboarder was found to have smoked >marijuana before his gold medal performance; when questioned about it, >one had to only ask, "so... using a known depressant is considered >performance enhancing, how?" My point... they are not at all the same."

Well I 'm sure the IOC will consider the matter very carefully and maybe just maybe rewrite all the rules based on the letter they received from you containing your opinion. As you've admitted, it's breaking the rules, Period.

I hope the IOC has the balls to actually push this investigation through all the way. And if the charges are proven correct, then the gold medals should be taken away. Cheating is cheating. Lots of athletes haven been disqualified for doping. No difference.

Unless the IWC rules which permit hunting whales for scientific research also state that the whales taken for this purpose must not be sold or consumed (ie; left to rot) I don't see Japan breaking any rules. Japan is really silly in even remaining in the IWC and making the effort to comply with the IWC moratorium. They should leave and do what Norway and Iceland, just ignore the IWC and do what they want.

"According to IWC figures, Japanese ships killed 866 whales in the 2006-2007 season, a haul that included minke, fin, sei, and sperm whales—the most of any nation. Norway placed second with a total catch of 545 whales."

    Yukotojo;

"The contention OssanUltra, is not whether or not they are Class AB&C war criminals. It's the religious and legal differences between Japan and the West over how they treat their war dead. It's a Western convention to draw lines between good/bad soldier, but in Japan a soldier is a soldier, regardless of what was handed down by a foreign court."

Disagree. The Yasukuni Shrine honors those soldiers who fought for the Emperor. And the the soldiers of the Tokugawa Shogunate who fought against the Emperor in the Boshin War are not enshrined there, while those who fought for the Imperial Govt are. Clearly there is a distinction being made equivalent to good soldier/bad soldier.

Furthermore, the Emperor Hirohito refused to visit the Shrine after the 14 Class A War Criminals were moved there. If the true instgators were those convicted war criminals, and not the Emperor, then these men fought AGAINST the Emperor simply usurping his name to lead the country. Not so different from most of Japanese history where powerful ewarlords lead the country with simply a "nod of approval" from the Emperor in Kyoto is it? If so, there is sufficient ground not to keep the 14 Class A War Crminals at the Yasukuni Shrine.

"When Tojo and those other men died, they died as judicial martyrs, not war criminals(since AB&C designations was borrowed from Nuremburg). The fact that their loved ones/bereaved can recieve pensions on their behalf, even to this day, is confirmation in itself that the Japanese government has never recognized Tojo and the others 14 as war criminals."

Disagree. Those men were members of the Imperial Armed Forces until their death and the fact that they were charged and convicted by the Allies is irrelevant to their status and service. Hence it is only natural that any pensions due to surving family should apply.

"It has been a while since I visited any of the scuba bulletin boards but I can pretty much assure you if you did you would very easily find an article about people trying to make theor own waterproof housing for some sort or music device..."

Geez..things have changed. In my day we'd hang with our eyes fixed on our Orca Edges. I wouldn't even think of listening to music. But then I wouldn't even think about a decompression dive alone either.

"Japan is like China, trying to punish demonstrators. It has no right to arrest the anti whalers, especially when they are illegally dealing in whales caught for food, pretending it is for science. The world can see how facist you are Japan."

No, Japan does not have Demonstration Parks to protest which require permits but applying for a permit can get you arrested. So it's not like China at all. And Japan isn't illegally whaling at all. They are doing it legally and within the IWC's rules. That's why the anti-whalers call it a loophole. Whether they're caught for food, for science or to become massive paperweights is irrelevant if they're caught legally.

"Denied of Shooting Permit in China, John Cusack's 'Shanghai' Relocated to Thailand"

LOLOL. I'll bet the script contained some serious infractions, such as suggesting that the United States had anything to do with defeating the Japanese in China, or that Japanese were possibly individual human beings and not all "devils".

War itself is wrong. In war, winning or losing takes priority over right and wrong. We fight wars not because we want to but because we have to.

I don't know who apppointed you God and Judge but I feel no shame in telling the truth. This is what separates "us" from the "bad guys". If you ever feel ashamed of telling the truth, then I suggest you question your own motives and actions. My comment does nothing to dishonor the men who fought for our country. Your silly comment did.
