Thanks to you greedy freaks, my grandkids will never be able to enjoy not only Bluefin but many other species of fish you (and to be fair, other nations) have over fished for too long. The consensus here seems to be against the "culturist" and greedy Japanese policies. Finally, some sense has arrived on this issue of overfishing (except for the nonsensical Japanese). Wah, Wah, Wah! cries the Japanese Gov't when it doesn't get it's own way....and then it bribes other countries.

How would people like it if some predator cut off one of their arms and threw them back into a cubicle to work? Humans and their "cultures" are very cruel and will eventually kill the oceans and all the fish, cetaceans, coral reefs. Hence we kill ourselves.

Now that The Cove has been revealed to the world with a well-deserved Oscar, I hope the people of Japan, including those in Taiji, will come to their senses and stop the slaughter and sale of dolphins and orcas. Many other cultural practices were stopped when their immorality or lack of conservation was perceived...that's why whaling was outlawed.

Now that The Cove has won the Oscar and will be shown on a wider scale, I can only hope that the Japanese people, including those in Taiji, will come to their senses and stop the slaughter. Well sending dolphins and Orcas to aquariums from Taiji for obscene profits is just as morally reprehensible. Culture is not self justifying, or shouldn't be.

A lot of good observations made here in comments. I think it's not just the Japanese... since the advent of the Internet and rise of corporate need for slave-wagers, most kids are not taught HOW to think critically--just fit in and use the 'Net on their computers. It actually changes the way a person's brain works, hence, the dumbing down. Use it or lose it, folks. Not program in--info out.

Once the dust settles and the Haitians' needs are met for survival, we'll see if the US does the right thing--debt forgiveness, rebuilding help without strings attached. Given the history of exploitation, I fear that the Haitian people will be exploited again. The US corporations pay them slave wages ($1.25/hr) to make shoes, etc, right now.

Maybe if you read the history of US mistreatment of Haiti, the criticism might be more clear. The USAnian people are to be commended on their generosity but the suspicion that the Gov't might have an agenda down the road is justified. The US military ALWAYD has to have control, neh? The US supported the coup that ousted Pres. Aristide into exile, a despicable political act consistent with other screwups and interference by the US in order to expand Empire in the vulnerable Latin and Caribbean countries. BTW--I see there are 66 CG helicopters distributing supplies but why aren't there 166? It seems they are needed to bypass the bottlenecks!

The Japanese whalers are just lucky they didn't kill someone on the SS ship. Then all Hell WOULD break loose. If the illegal whalers are so innocent the why do 98% of the world condemn their whaling? Sea Shepherds clearly have the high moral ground here and I support them fully, despite Ossan's stupid blank judgement of SS supporters.

Maybe a lot of the bases are on top of old JP pollution but if you really look at the history AND current US bases, you would see that they are serious polluters, like in my old ho e town of Sacramento--one of the worst-polluted places in the USA, much related to the military.

"Waist deep and sinking down in the Big Dusty"...Obama's gonna deeply regret even trying to prop up a corrupt guy like Karzai...but then where would the CIA get their drug money for their slush funds and secret prisons so they can round up anybody that looks cross-eyed and torture them? This a continuing disaster but there are more private contractors than troops now and they certainly love to profits they make. that's right--more private contractors than troops and growing every day... $$$$$
