    Heda--whether or not the Minkes are abundant they have a right to their lives and not be slaughtered. Whalers in the 1800's had no idea what they were doing and neither do the Japanese whalers beyond greed. That the Japanese continue this barbarism is to their shame, not humanity. "Harvesting" the whales in the Southern Ocean for "Science" (hah!) is unconscionable torture and murder of an intelligent, social being and the sooner the Japanese people stop these greedy whalers the better. And if they won't, Sea Shepherd will--more power to Hannah for lending her support!They have mine and if I was younger, I'd be down there.

    Business as usual. War will continue in Afghanistan/Pakistan after 7 yrs and NO progress, NO capture of Osama bin Laden (he's dead or might as well be, people!) I can't believe some of the naive comments here, Sweat (sic) irony, indeed. That Gates is a close Bush family friend is just scary and telling me that nothing will change in the "culture of Empire USA". Rah, freakin Rah!

    USA OUT of there NOW! This kind of outrageous murder should be unacceptable to the American people---Where's the protest, the outrage? Apathy about this endless obscene war is insane. And since Prez-elect Obama seems to be another Dem Hawk about this war, I'm very pessimistic that it will end soon or with any kind of "honor". What a shame and black mark in 'Merikan history...another one. I'm STILL ashamed to be an American citizen in many ways--and this is the main reason. Where is Michelle Obama's outrage now?

    Whalebone, Muchogrande? I suppose the whaling industry in Japan is still alive, even after the truth about tax subsidies to the Japanese whalers came out last year. One would hope that the new Admin. will review that with some understanding that it's time for the murderous, cruel whaling to STOP. Let's hope the Japanese people get fed up with the excesses and corruption in Taibbi and elsewhere in Japan. And David, you're reasoning is sound except for one thing--exploiting animals still being poached for human consumption is dangerous for all animals and promotes poaching. Why not educate people to use other materials instead? I love a good carving as much as anyone but not at the expense of a dead elephant.

    Oh, yes--the USA is the "good guys" exporting their brand of fake democracy everywhere. It's called Imperialism and it stinks of world domination. The USA is not "Good"---just rich and powerful and likes to throw it's military weight around for the gain of the corporate profiteers--munitions, supplies for unnecessary troops abroad, all that equipment is VERY profitable. The USA should get its bases out of the worlds business, including Japan's. "protecting the world" is a BIG LIE!

    The attitude that we should "just simmer down and everything will be OK" because the market will correct everything is just insane. If overfishing isn't stopped, we will be eating each other a la Soylent Green in the next 20-30 years. See if the "market forces" will correct THAT!

    But to the subject--of course the World Court should be able to hold up elected leaders to justice--ALL leaders, including Chinese Communists and USA war mongers. Whether they will have the courage and the political clout to enforce is up to the people of the world--Do WE want justice?

    No matter what the crime "rate" is, every time a young Japanese girl is raped or assaulted or murdered by an American soldier, another family is traumatized or destroyed. One is too many, and that's an atrocity.
