Patrick Bommarito's past comments

I have not read all comments but from my world view. I need to smoke, I want to smoke, I LOVE TO SMOKE! I have never pushed people to smoke and have gone out of my way to tell people they don't smoke, DON'T EVER START! I don't drink - AT ALL! Never needed alcohol, never wanted to but have always like alcohol. I almost NEVER DRINK! If I do it just COSTS AND COSTS.... so, I prefer to smoke and drink caffeine.

My doctor is of the opinion that if it is mentally and physically too stressful to stop smoking then I should smoke if I want. This agreed we still do extensive bi-montly physical checks on my body in general and lungs in specific.

I agree with japanese idea of not smoking in most places and never walking etc. but I could never see myself paying any amount to smoke. It is a fresh and very Japan thing to do but if I need to smoke I will find a place I can smoke at and if I can't I will wait until I CAN!

Sorry people but, I have another perspective on this subject matter.

YES TOKYO! 100000%! Personally, business wise and morale wise! It could not be LA, NYC or DC for many reasons but mostly because they don't have the Infrastructure for it. Also, they don't have the space to expand to reach the IOC requirements and LA as hosted 2 times in this century.

Sao Paulo got it next because they had all and there has not been an Olympics in S. A. Tokyo stepped back for that reason as well in the last selection process.

Osaka does not have the Infrastructure and will not be able to meet the IOC requirements. Same for Fukuoka. Also, neither of the cities have the "money" to take a run at a bid.

Being that Tokyo was in top 3 last selection time, they reapplied. The Infrastructure and the Venues are already in place because of the 1964 TOKYO Olympics and 2001 World Cup as well as having the needed space within METRO TOKYO to build the other needed Venues etc.

Hosting the Olympics in 2020 will be perfect for Japan as everyone is starting to awake from the "dead zone" we all felt after the Fukushima Earthquake(s). It will revitalize Tokyo & Japan as prepping for the task will create jobs etc.

Also, everyone one in Tokyo still makes use of the infrastructure put together for 1964. Many of the subway lines, The highway system in central Tokyo as well as many of the parks and publics places created for 1964.

Listen to ISHIHARA and then forget about 80% of what he said. I despise the man but many times he has made many good points in the center of his "B.S".

Just imagine how much more user friendly Tokyo will become for use by people from both domestic & international locations by having the Olympics here.

At this point if Tokyo can quickly resolve the "Power" problem we are a LOCK! It would be really exciting to live in a OLYMPIC HOST city!

PS! This is NOT ABOUT GAY MARRIAGE for me! This is about the power of people in the media and the potentially their comments will hurt other people!

In my 25 years in Japan (over a 35 year span), I had always considered "Beat" Takeshi to be Smart, Talented and Very Funny. This feeling was enforced by his public humiliation, re-birth and long term re-habiliation needed after his famous "COMEDIAN CRASHES A SCOTTER WHILE DRUNK" incident . He took "SPINNING" to a new level in Japan.

Several of his films have very complex and homo-erotic sub-stories and they were done well! Thus said; NO matter whether or not this was said as a JOKE or as a SERIOUS COMMENT, there is NO WAY he will ever be able to return to his previous level of excellence in my mind! Had always felt I had an ALLY in the Japanese Media but now I have realized that just have another ENEMY to battle in my "WAR of ACCEPTANCE" in Japan.

In general, Japanese tend to take comments made by (in)famous people at face value and are not taught to read between the lines or to make their own conclusions. The comment has done major damage to Gay People, Open Hearted Straight People and to "BEAT" TAKESHI himself.

I will NEVER watch another MOVIE or TV program if "BEAT" is even remotely connected! BOYCOTT the "BEAT"!

I have been reading the comments from both sides and I have to be honest. I get the NAY SAYERS, but! The people that are so against the reactors re-opening should stop complaining and marching. They should start moving on making all of the "alternative" types energy the "mainstay" types of energy. If they can't they should stop using electricity all together until they can use CLEAN & SAFE ENERGY. I personally MUST HAVE my power for work and home!

There is no way that a country that needs this much energy ALL the time, can simply stop using it's main form of energy that quickly!

Japan still has NO "proper" and easily usable natural energy resources - yet! No time to start properly using these "natural" resources in time to cover the gap that will happen during a potential change over during what could be a make or break year for not just Japan but the rest of the world.

Several of my closest friends are from Fukui Pref. and I have been there many times. There is a low population, there a low tax base and if it was not for the power plants my friends would not be doing as well in their chosen fields of business. Everyone in Fukui benefits from the plants, especially children in schools who have been using some of the top level public learning facilities in the world because of the money the money raised from the plants.

Yes, there is a concern about earthquakes! But, that is a concern anywhere in Japan. Yes, the reactor system is not the best, safest or cleanest ways to create energy! But, that is not just a problem for Japan. Yes, I would love to see Japan & the World go TOTALLY GREEN and still be able to feed, educate and live on this over crowded planet! But, this a world problem!

This said, in the mean time I see this as a calculated risk. The same as stepping into a wet bathtub, the same as walking down a street or riding ANY form of transportation. ANY THING CAN HAPPEN, ANY TIME! No matter what precautions are made, mistakes happen. Often things happen that go way beyond what any of the best calculations can predict.

Just living a RISK. We take thousands everyday and when something beyond our calculations happens we do what must be done to fix them and get past them.

UTOPIA is a fantastic concept but at this point it is just that A CONCEPT!

Of course now, the Japanese Police will pressure the government to outlaw Legal Herb because one guy did something really stupid and would have probably done the same thing whether or not he was high!
