In Myanmar (Burma), these days, getting arrested by the junta's police is something to be proud of. Almost every week of the year has it's own commemorative day in the peoples' struggle against the "fascism" of one form or the other.

May 21, 2009 (DVB)–Human rights atrocities in Burma are comparable to those of Darfur and Yugoslavia and should be addressed more thoroughly through a UN Security Council commission, said a report by the Harvard Law School.

These "seven political prisoners" who were freed yesterday by Myanmar authorities have been long overdue to be freed. They already have severed their " full " prison terms more than three years ago, but the junta decided to keep them inside anyway with arbitrary cases. So there is a big "NO THANKS" for "NOTHING"..........

Some countries such as Zimbabwe, Myanmar, N.Korea do not understand the word " Diplomacy". These countries' leaders only understand "INTERNATIONAL INTERVENTION BY FORCE".

No, No, Myanmar junta did not delay cyclone aid; it only impounds the thousands of tons of aid material, stockpile them in army warehouses for military use. The junta merely obstrust the international and local donors from reaching out to the cyclone survivors in delta.

Why the so-called government is againts the world's help to save the lives of it's own people is beyond me. Recently, Thai PM claimed that these generals are "good Buddhists, they meditate". WHAT DO THEY MEDITATE ON? " Power ?, Wealth ? Apart from those nothing seems to be important to them.

Military strong man Than Shwe has a well-earned reputation of ruthlessness and callousness. This time, though, he has left most people speechless with his total lack of humanity. The merciless generals are proving to the world how much they look down on the survivors."The people should learn to feed themselves," an official told donors."We do not want foreigners to think we are a country of beggars".Four weeks after the disaster, the UN says less than half of the 2.4 million people affected by the cyclone have received any form of help. On Friday, in a remarkable show of pomposity, the regime announced to the media that starvation is not an issue, because "farmers can gather water clover or go out with lamps at night and catch plump frogs, for food". The international community has sat back in its collective armchair and allowed the Burmese military junta to commit murder with impunity. YENI of Irrawaddy said, "If the cyclone victims can eat frogs then surely the UN can eat humble pie and admit to it's failings. If the world organs do not force their will over the Burmese regime, the people of the Irrawaddy delta will suffer a second catastrophe - a totally preventable manmade disaster."

The forced evictions are part of military gov.'s efforts to demonstrate that the emergency relief period is over and that the effected popuation is capable of rebuilding their lives without foreign assistance.
Anupama Rao Singh, regional director of UNICEF, who visited the affected area , warned on Saturday against pemature resettlement,as it will cause serious risks to the refugees. "Many villages remain inundated with water. Without proper support and continued service to those effected, there is a risk of a second wave of disease and devastation" said Singh.

While 1.2 million are still out of reach in remote (destroyed) villages, drinking water is the big issue here. Water purification plants have to be operated by experience aid workers but cannot by the local people. The animals in the delta have been drinking salt water in the aftermath and have died of diarrohea dialy. Human and animal remains are still floating up and down the streams and more danger is lurking as decomposed bodies are attracking BLACK FLIES. For the survivors the next disaster awaits. BUT the military gov.,adamantly ,declared emergency relief work is over and reconstruction works ought to begin, hinting "Where is my Billions?"

There is only one thing left for the international community to do ; Take the Myanmar military junta to the International Court of Justice for "Crime Against Humanity". Other options will be too bloody and could result in too many lost of lives.

Is that so? These leaders you are quoting...Do they also shoot thousands of unarmed citizens/monks on the streets, for asking for food ? Do they burn 4000 villages, driving tens of thousands of women, children and elderly into the jungles? Do they send their elected MPs to 100 of years of prison (slow death) sentences? Do they also refused to recognize the national general election winners? How long have they ruled the country for ? Half a century (like Myanmar generals)?

If nobody was telling Than Shwe the full extent of the damage, they certainly were not pressuring him to waive restrictions. In a well-trodden military junta response, foreign news of the massive disaster was in dissonance with the official view and was catergorised as the propaganda of Western opponents and Burmese "traitors".
As a former commander of offensives against Kayin insurgents and civilians for almost 60 years, Than Shwe's warhorse mentality must have bred a cold toleration for human suffering over the years. The imperative for Than Shwe, all along, was ensuring that his long-awaited referndum went smoothly and resulted in entrenching his rule. However, the propaganda machine dictated that senior military officers go to the delta to hand out some supplies. They must, surely have become painfully aware of the heartbreak and devastation that was occuring on their watch. And yet, the junta could not bridge the gulf between "humanity" and "totalitarianism"
