This article doesn't even get into any of the "REAL" life of hostesses in Japan. The alcohol abuse, the beatings, the pimping. Yes, there are several levels of hostessing, from exclusive to skanky, and this industry is the front door to prostitution and drugs.
Although i never had to pay for it directly, dating hostess chicks did cost dearly in gifts and fancy dinners. I did get more than my share of action from these places, and lost count of how many i "dated", nothwithstanding, there's tons of better places to meet pretty girls in Japan.

what's this thing now about all these old things coming out again? First it was a Jet Airliner circa 1982, now it's a pocket knife from 1891. I gotta look around in my closet see if I find something good.

Nomitomo rhymes with Yaritomo.
Funny that this guy has lasted so long in the biz, taking on yokozunas and whatnot.

Yeah 10 grand is not that much to spend in Ginza, given that there was an entourage. The source of information is inronclad... Being surrounded by all that quality tail and not being able to take any of it home is par for the course here, even for top yokozuna. Some of us shoot birdies (or hole in ones) sometimes hahah.

in a country where people rarely interact, a group game may be the wrong turn.
perhaps there may be a killer app in there that makes people use it more...
The wii's killer app was the wand, and it allowed designers to make many cool games that anyone could play.

I doubt she would have left the guy to die there.
About timorborder's post, things could be much worse here. There are countries near Japan where people have no food, get shot at all day or have an occasional civil war, the government steals all the money, etc., etc.... I mean, things in Japan are still pretty good relative to other countries.
Also, go back 2-3 generations, and they could know the real hardships that their grandparents and great-grandparents faced. Their country was reduced to ruins, and some even had a nuclear bomb dropped on them. That's real hardship... Life today is like living in a country club compared to that.

you see what happens... there can only be ONE website, so all these fancy non-romanized domains after all can only point to ONE site!! Even in the case of multi-language websites, they are all integrated into one site. This is rather ridiculous...
Whoever tries out the domain in a while, and then gives it up, faces the danger of a squatter sitting on it or using it to peddle his fake wares.

This may be a sign that he's preparing to anounce a surge. Otherwise, people may perceive that all the war casualties may be in vain.

"wartime documents"!! that's great! otherwise they would all deny it all the way to the bank like they have denied other massacres... in Germany denying the holocaust is a jailable offense, in Japan it's SOP in schools.

i think this is a huge mistake. It will lead to a bum-rush of copyright infringement and domain squatting. If you are illiterate enough to not know a romanized version of the websites name, perhaps you shouldn't BE on the internet...
yes, in Japan the tradition of putting the (***)検索 is extremely annoying. They do it to raise the web ranking of their sites, but to also spare Japanese people from having to type any western characters at all...
This is not an issue of English dominating othr languages, it is about finding ONE standard that everyone apply globally. If now i have to register my own company domain in 30 other languages, my company will go broke!!!!

With the low birthrate in Japan for the last 20 years, the situation has become similar to the little Emperors in China, little kids who are only children whose every wish or desire is fulfilled at all costs, with no time for discipline or unpleasantness. I myself have seen this happen in Japan, and see this as a race to the bottom, replacing the current crop of freeters, which should still be working in McDonald's at age 65 since they didn't save for retirement.
"The school stated that there were no signs of suicidal tendencies". Didn't the girl say she wanted to kill herself that morning? If the roomate didn't report it then the roommate must also take some responsibility.

"The Mohican jet will fly until the end of 2013"
wow, that's like saying McCain could also have been president until January 1, 2013...
These planes are quite old, and in these days where a single missing 10 cent screw can bring a plane down, i would prefer to take the bullet train...

It's good to get some insight from JT with actual experience at sea. Looks like the Korean crew screwed up, but the J-Captain is on the hook for letting himself get hit. Short of a boat falling from the sky right on top of the J-Destroyer, the J-captain would have to accept responsibility.
I guess if NK really wants to sink Japanese ships, they should buy old container ships or beat-up fishing trawlers.

Pawatan: "otherwise" meaning that if there was NO Yamanote line then on average people would have to pay 10,000-25,000 Yen per taxi ride. I live out in the sticks, so from Shibuya to my station its an easy 25,000Y, but from Ikebukuro its 6,000Y.
A circular line is the most logical when it comes to having only one 24 hour line. That way you cover all corners of Tokyo, including all major shinkansen stations. In terms of maintenance it's the easiest. There's also plenty of redundant track running along that route, so it's easier to run the checks and do the maintenance.

i don't have a problem with the short skirts, and recently i guess fashion has held back a bit. Maybe it's the cold weather.
women have a right to choose what they wear, but they should realize that if they wear that, then men will look at them. If you throw a 10,000 bill on the street, it will be picked up for sure! same thing. If I see a 10,000 bill on the street with no one around, i will take it, however i don't go around picking people's pockets...
with all the so called techie forensic specialists in police here, i can't believe that they could not retrieve the pictures. Once it's committed to memory, and in some cases SD cards which handle many g's of impact force, the data should be recoverable in the vast majority of cases. The guy's name should be outed as well, but perhaps his yakuza connections keep him safe.
I'm running my own business in Japan, and I'm just waiting for the dreary day when the yakuza will be showing up at my door.

At least the Yamanote should run 24 hours. That would be a real money saver since 14 million people live within 5,000Yen cab ride from it. Otherwise it could be anywhere from 10,000 to 25,000 per ride.
To be on the fair side, the last trains are running later every time, and the first trains earlier. My last train is out on the move until way past 1:30am, and the first train is just before 5am, so it's only a couple hours downtime.
The only time i miss the last train is beacuse i want to, which supports the other argument in this article...
