are you sure they only were paid for 1 hour? I heard there were time card machines and the beginning and end of the line hahahahaa...at any rate to get paid $10 an hour to stand in line is great!... so many easy jobs in japan for the uneducated masses.

Unemployment figures are incredibly understated here. when a full time worker is fired, he is practically displaced permanently. Only the top performers who get laid off for strategic reasons ever find comparable jobs. The rest are working in part time jobs, and of course out of the unemployment numbers.

The lifetime employment system used here in Japan is now bringing everything, especially the economy and society down to its knees.

The high yen is really not going to do much to boost consumer spending if people keep the money in their pockets, or under their tatami mats.

Privacy is something that we in America used to have. I dont blame the Japanese for trying to protect it in this day and age of new toys and gadgets.

They do go overboard with the news broadcasts where i can't see anything on the screen.

hey bobba you're the only one here trying to hack her down.

99% of the comments here so far have been supportive and understanding of her. i remember her too, in both phases of her life, she always gave everything she had to stand out and make a difference.

japanese society, as much as other developed societies in the world, has gone down the crapper pretty bad, and she is just one of the victims.

i can't think what would be sadder, that she took her own life or that she died of health problems alone in her place. she didn't deserve any of that.

Edison is The Man. he blew it though...

actually, to go watch a movie in China is very expensive, and many people go. However, piracy on the DVD's is rampant, so its a good decision on their part.

this is the exactly same thing that happened in Times Square in NYC in the 80's. yes, kabukicho needs some renewal, but there's no way all those thousands of "establishments" will move too far. there's just too much money at stake.

Also, efforts to thwart the yakuza are futile. They are still walking the streets, dividing out turf, and getting extortion money.

The fact that police could arrest a girl at a bar just for having a drink with a customer at 2am is hilarious, considering the things that happen in other places.

Nokia's phone's just dont have the abundance of features that the Japanese phones have. I totally agree with sydenham. I have used Nokia phones before, and they are incredibly user-unfriendly.

Sanyo's consumer products are extremely hit or miss.

Their digital cameras x-acti and mobile phones are at the low end. However, Solar and batteries are #1. i see a lot of synergy here.

however, mergers are of little use if the new company refuses to lay off excess personnel and slim down.

Masato made his own fur coat by pummeling small chinchillas with his bare fists.

anyway, what better person to give this award that a K-1 fighter. who would splatter red paint over him? they would have to be crazy.

Miki Mizuno looks like she is 55.

US companies are investing billions in R&D, but I really dont see as much innovation as the Japanese companies.

Also, the service record of Japanese cars is still way higher than any US or European cars which normally run for 2-3 times the price.

This is round two of the Japanese compacts vs. the US Road Hogs, and the result is the same.
