I couldn't have said it better. You must also be an academic of some sort. Ever since the National Convention ended with all of us Democrats chanting "O-bama, O-bama" the paranoid style Hofsteder identified forty years ago has come back full blown, not that it is ever far below the surface in America...
All you can do is chuckle. As if that response to Obama's nomination, a few "iconic" posters and fourteen appearances on the cover of TIME magazine is proof of a so-called personality cult that right wingers hallucinate about.

I was always assured Tony Blair was the British Bill Clinton, but even more clever.
It is still hard to fathom that the most brilliant politician England has produced in decades could be so easily duped by someone like George Bush.

This is not the Hugo Chavez that I know. Allowing officials in his government to ask for "God's help"? He is openly mocking Karl Marx. I fear someone has gotten to him, the same way they tried to make Castro look like a homicidal dictator.

I am disappointed, as are many of my colleagues. President Obama has recently made moves toward allowing these Taliban fellows some share in governing Afghanistan. But how can they reciprocate if they are being hunted down like cockroaches and vapourized by predator drones?

There really is no greater thrill in American politics today than hating this woman. Her intolerance and cynicism makes me sick.

Oh, and just where is the gloom?
Recent Gallup polls indicate 61 percent of Liberals still have a positive view of socialism.
Those are numbers the President can work with.
Yes we can ! !

Oh my. When my fellow Americans had the sense to elect Barack Obama and it was announced American troops would be departing I was absolutely certain that the carnage would cease.
Perhaps this is just a one-off.

Oh my. This is a difficult one. Do we claim he died a natural death and just let Mossad win again, or do we admit he was smuggling weapons from Iran but it was for the cause?

Sfjp33 - Your post at 3:27 a.m. made quite an impact on me. I couldn't get it out of my mind. It seemed familiar to me. So I did a quick search. My hunches have proven correct. It was first given by the Honorable Senator Robert Byrd, back in 2003. I remember linking it to it frequently. Please cite your sources next time.
Check and compare if you are in doubt http://www.wagingpeace.org/articles/2003/05/23_byrd_unprovoked.htm

Oh my. So much senseless violence. Whatever could be the cause? And why the predator drones? I thought those of us on the side of peace bought a change of heart from the leader of America when the Norwegians awarded him the Nobel Peace prize.

Oh my. I do believe something has radicalized the French. Whatever could it be? The veil is a harmless, completely apolitical accoutrement, one which any modest Muslim woman would want to wear. President Obama needs to inform the French that they are acting stupidly here.

As an expert in the region I have to point out that since the assassination was a success - from the assassin's point of view - the notoriously inept CIA can be ruled out.

I never thought the day would come that I would be quoting George Bush but I can read no more here.
"Islam is a religion of peace."
Even if incarcerated unjustly I have a very, very, very hard time believing that Muslim men from places as disparate as Afghanistan, Yemen, Canada, Pakistan and Western China, upon release from Guantanomo Bay Prison, would take up arms and seek revenge upon Americans or any non-Muslim nation.
It is as preposterous as trying to justify wariness of Muslims by making the specious link between the professed religion of a tiny, tiny handful of terrorists like Al Qaeda and their violent behavior.
If these former inmates are committing acts of so-called terror (I doubt it, and so does my esteemed colleague Alex Jones, at PrisonPlanet - see post from biglittlman above), it is because, as biglittleman noted, they cannot go back to their homelands.
The annals of history are replete with incidents of men and women who, unable to return to where they are from, had little choice but to become mass murderers. Buddhist Tibet springs to mind, as does Greek Orthodox Cyprus, to name but a few places that have probably spawned thousands of violent terrorists, though I must admit neither country is in my area of interest.
