Korea jolts Japan in baseball world, unbeaten Olympics Champion 2008, winning Gold medal and representing Asia! Hearty Congratulations !

Honestly, I regret that Japan could not strengthen the image by winning the brnze against USA. But, I'm sure Japanese baseball will continue to have chances to redeem itself and shine, in the near future. Congratulations for the gallant effort by the Japanese players, although the same may not be said of Coach Hoshino....

Like I said in another thread, the Japanese baseball team should forget about applying for a visa extension and, instead, apply for an asylum in China. They can certainly help train the Chinese national team there, couldn't they?

The Japanese baseball team should forget about applying for a visa extension and, instead, apply for an asylum in China, now.

So, if any group is to be accused of misusing the concepts of race and ethnicity in order to promote a nationalist or cultural bias, look no further than Japan and Korea.

Please do explain, then, how the terms race and ethnicity are used in a multicultural society, such as the U.S., distinguished from the contexts which I used.

Not the same thing. Not by a long shot.

Learn about the game in question.

runs = scores, period. And that's what matters in the end, because that determines the winners and losers. It's not a rocket science.

There are no points in baseball.

OK, I meant "runs"... same thing, geez.

It wasn't the pitchers, wasn't the players, wasn't the coach, it was ALL OF THEM that sucked as a unit, when they should have worked better together, and the Korean team showed how well they CAN do it. A few of the Japanese team do very well on their own, but clearly as a team they cannot muster the skill to beat even part-time players from other countries.

That smacks clearly against what the Japanese are always known and admired for by Koreans - excellent teamwork. Koreans are usually the ones known to work better indivdually but poorly as a unit - at least compared to the Japanese. Anyway, you can be sure that, up until the 8th inning, there were whole lot of Koreans screaming to pull Lee Seung-Yeop out of the game and I was one who felt the same way. But, the SK manager Kim's stubborn faith in him paid off, luckily for the SK team. Otherwise, he would've been THE GOAT, if SK lost. On the other hand, in a postgame interview with Korean media, Hoshino was asked why did not leave Iwase in the game to continue pitching, after Lee's homerun, but whether doing so would have been the solution for Japan is a moot point, now, and we would never know how that decision could have affected the outcome. One more thing, SK should not count on another come-from-behind win against Cuba, this time, because if it falls behind in scoring by more than two points early in the final, its chance to win the gold will be from slim to none, imo.

The IOC, which also asked the Chinese gymnastics federation to investigate, would not give details on what new information prompted it to act now, three days after the gymnastics competition ended.

Let's see... asking the Chinese Gymnastics Federation to investigate... isn't that somewhat like asking a fox to look for the missing chicken in a henhouse?

And finally, I notice that there is a post from a person so ignorant or biased as to think that Koreans and Japanese are "monoethnic". Does not he know that both Korean and Japanese "kun" languages have connections with the family of the altaic languages ? So, let him consider this : language from the Altair area would have come to Korea and Japan without any human migration as a vector ? Maybe these prehistoric altaic guys were sending tapes to the monoethnic Koreans...

I use "ethnicity", as it is used technically by anthropologists or sociologists, to denote a subclass within a race. In that regard, Koreans and Japanese are two different ethnicities within the Mongoloid race. I guess we can argue on the fine details and semantics, but I'm simply going by what the supposedly scientifically and logically superior whites/Europeans/Westerners have come up and used as classifying people of the world ethnically and culturally, for years. For the sake of world unity and harmony, we can simply acknowledge that all humanity originated from Africa and so we are all just one big family. But, guess what? Human history would indicate otherwise and we tended to stress our differences more than similarities, in order to gain advantages or feel superior from each other. And that became our habit for millennia, I believe.

Now, now, Doggy Bert, I know you hate Koreans for eating your mommy and daddy, but they did it for you, so that you can grow up a happy puppy at a japanese orphanage, OK? ;)

TBS is conveniently overlooking the loss an hour ago and analysing in minute detail the women's softball team members and how they came to be this great

Well, for Japan and Asia's sake I hope they will win the bronze against either Cuba or USA. But, for Korea's sake, I hope Korea ends up playing against USA for the gold.

For a long while, it sure looked like that S. korea would lose to Japan, by 1-2. It really did.

Hoshino vowed something like that he would rewrite a page in Japanese baseball history and he did - except completely opposite to what he had in mind. He and his team just may need to extend their visas to stay in Beijing longer, until the Japanese fans cool down from their hopping-mad anger.

Monoethnic and monocultural countries, like Japan or Korea, cannot be held accountable to the same standard as USA or any country that claimed itself to be a nondicriminating, multiehtnic/multicultural country yet failed to live up to that standard. On the other hand, the progresses made in either Japan or Korea are no less notable, considering that neither set itself up to the same lofty and idealistic yet unmet standard as USA has done.

A surprisingly large amount of the bullying that goes on in Japanese schools is not only something that teachers are aware of, in many cases, they are actively encouraging it.

    I find that incredulous.

The problem with Japan and some other Asian countries is the mandatory retirement age of 60.

Heh, in Korea some companies seem to start to push the workers out the door once they reach 40. Too many college grads can't seem to find jobs after they graduate, also - sometimes up to several years.

That's too bad. I was about to suggest that Japan, South Korea and China put aside their political differences to jointly produce better and safer passenger planes, as EU does to produce their Airbuses to compete with America's Boeing and McDonnell Douglas.

It never ceases to amuse me how many people care more about animal rights than human rights, in the West and in particularly USA.
