Neither do I, apart from the fact that dragging children to these protests, as is the recent trend here. However, don't start crying if countries like China refuse to do business with Japan. Face it, countries like China, Korea and Russia are now holding all the aces when it comes to East Asia. Japan depends more on others than the other way round. And I'd like to know how many of these protesters donated to the tsunami victims and did volunteer work.

Ah yes, here come the excuses. I guess the Sakura Party is also run by a group of down and out NEETS with nothing else to do. Next time a group of Chinese or Koreans go on a demo, please tell us they're just a minority with too much time on their hands and don't represent their countries. Or does this excuse only work one way?
What's missing in the photo is that woman with the long hair (usually with a child nearby) who usually goes on these rallies. And somebody should tell these people Wen speaks Chinese, not Engl/rish.

For all Japan's faults, at least gay-bashing is very rare here. That cannot be said of Dubya-country. I hope things do improve here for everyone, regardless of sex, sexual orientation, race or religion. The venom from conservatives and physical/verbal abuse and killings seen in countries like the US and UK is really disgusting. And it's frightening to think gay people are executed in other countries. Sorry Dubya, but gays really are 'born this way'. The perverts are the ones who delight in killing.

Wow, I have to say all the hate here is really getting a bit too much. As a fan of Kim, I am disappointed, but at the end of the day, she didn't perform the best, and, as the best skater that day, Ando rightly won. Why on earth would she be called a 'sore loser'? The sore posters here seem to have forgotten that Kim cried when she was on the podium receiving the Olympic gold medal. Oh, that's right, selective memory. She'd been away from competition a year - maybe she was just overwhelmed or perhaps she was just happy to make it to the podium. She, just like Ando and Asada, is only human and you can't expect them to win every single time.
I really do wish the Japanese media would stop all this Asada vs Kim stuff. They end up with egg on their faces when Asada is nowhere in sight. They're all young and if Ando can come back, so can Asada sometime. But for now, Asada is out of the picture.
The one thing I will say about Kim is that she's the most consistent of them all, hardly ever missing the podium since she burst onto the scene.
And my definition of a sore loser is someone like Plushenko, who belittled the American Olympic winner, saying he didn't deserve it because he didn't attempt a quad. I'd like to know what exactly Kim said about Ando's performance. If she sais something bad, then I'll call her a sore loser.

The "I'm better than you" complex. You see it in some foreigners and you see it in Japanese and the Japanese media. Scr*w the Jp media - the Japanese wouldn't go anywhere near New Zealand after their earthquake - so ironic given what happened afterwards in Japan. Where's the criticism aimed at the Japanese who fled Tokyo?
I don't care if many foreigners went back to their own country. For tourists, they were going to go home anyway. They've got no responsibility to stay. As for residents, it's not easy when friends and relatives are phoning you everyday, worried sick and begging you to go home.
Posted in: Why did those foreigners who decided to leave Japan in the aftermath of the March 11 disaster come in for so much derision from some people who labeled them with words like 'flyjin?'

The Japanese are entitled to a few concerts, too.
I think all her weird costumes just distract many people. Take away those costumes, and you'll really see that she is a good singer and musician. You don't get many of those who make it to the top nowadays.

In all honesty, I do think the Japanese authorities and NPO have been generous with assisting others in times of need, eg during the Sichuan earthquake. However, very little charity was seen from rich Japanese celebrities before this large tsunami. I don't recall many of them doing anything during the SE Asian tsunami a few years back or anything for the Sichuan earthquake (or even Haiti). It's a shame it's taken a disaster like this for them to do something. Celebrities from other countries, even those from poorer nations like the Phil. were out in force as they are now for Japan. I hope the Japanese celebrities learn a thing or two about real neighbourly love.

That's true. I stopped using the aircon since the earthquake. I've only used it in the winter, hardly at all in the summer (use a fan instead), and even then, it's on the weakest setting. And, in general, just be grateful that we've only be inconvenienced, and not directly affected by the tsunami.
All this hasn't changed or tested my faith. Still agnostic. Friends, family and colleagues have kept me strong.

Of course. However, with all the lighting effects gone, people will really start focusing on the entertainer's singing voice. Koda can get away with it, but Hamasaki can't. ;p

Yes, and I don't earn anywhere near as much as them.
This is NOT being cynical. In times of less tragedy, it is so difficult to across charity events with famous people in Japan. I never see prizes going to charity on TV quiz programmes. In many other countries (including those in the rest of Asia), famous people are linked with certain charity organizations. I remember the SE Asian tsunami a few years back and there were so many campaigns all over the world raising money. TVs (one again including those of Japan's neighbours) had special programmes to raise money. Maybe I missed the ones in Japan, but all I remember where boy scouts collecting money in the middle of Tokyo. I certainly don't remember famous Japanese people getting out there to raise money.

My thoughts exactly. I would have thought that these two, especially Hamasaki, were two of the richest 'entertainers' in Japan. We've seen so many famous people (be they Jp or NJ) giving something in support. Haven't heard anything from these people and those who love to flaunt their wealth (eg Dewi or Kanda). They probably don't want to get their nails dirty. And we haven't heard anything from the music companies and tarento agencies - these are the companies with loads of money.

No expert myself, but after 8 days, only half the radioactive iodine has decayed. If you were really worried in the first place, you'd wait for several weeks, but by that time, I wouldn't drink the water because you don't know how much bacteria has grown in there.
There is nothing wrong with bottled tea or other drinks. I just don't see many people buying tea round my neck of the woods.
