Really? My relative left Tokyo last weekend after a holiday(!) here, and a friend went to China for business last Monday. Both of them said Narita airport was empty and the flights were only 50% full. Those that panicked have already gone. NOW is the time to do sightseeing in Tokyo as there are fewer crowds. I do feel sorry for the businesses though. The mainland Chinese (who were freaking over nothing) were bringing in a lot of money.

I have to agree with some posters here. If the children really needed those KKK masks, then they shouldn't be going out at all!!! This is all for show.
Also, shouldn't the kids' hands and legs be covered up too? If it's serious, then I would expect the teachers and parents to give the kids a shower when going back indoors.

I found a timetable in Japanese at Asahi's website. My area is also in 2 groups and there is no way of knowing which group I'll be in. Just be prepared for power cuts anytime. 23 wards in Tokyo will not be affected because many governmental offices are located there.
samuraiblue:
Absolutely. Agree with you 100%. Those and all the vending machines. They can sell drinks in convenience stores. Completely no need for all the bright lights you see in the centre of Tokyo. We've all got to do our part.
I couldn't even find canned fruit. Got lots of tea (no water left), canned beans, snacks, etc.
Everyone good luck. Be prepared for a possible magnitude 7 within the next 3 days.

The last time I saw people in Tokyo, they all had at least one hand attached to their bodies.

They didn't do that when I ran there a few years back, otherwise I would have made it in just under 4 hours! D*mn!

You'd think that the Japanese, Korean and Chinese would have many things in common - but name changing isn't one of them. Women from both Korea and Chinese-speaking places keep their own names. People who insist on keeping the status quo in Japan are welcome to do what they like with their own names, but they shouldn't have the right to tell other women (and men) to change their names.

Why should the Japanese farmers (especially those growing rice) be afraid? The Japanese all proclaim how superior their rice is. Most wouldn't buy foreign rice in the first place. But please, give the rest of us the choice to buy other types of rice.

This isn't just train stations. It's the supermarkets, shops, escalators. Everywhere in Japan there are these announcements, either warnings or greetings. When I go back home, I really enjoy shopping in supermarkets where they don't blare out music or irasshaimase every damn minute. Yes, I know there needs to be some announcements for the blind, but this is so OTT.

Potida:
What rubbish! I have to agree with lunchbox. She went into movies and yet couldn't be half-arsed to do any promotion. She just stood there, sulking. Even Hollywood stars have to come here, act the part and smile. If you don't want to do any promoting, then don't act. It's as simple as that. I don't see any 'guts' in being immature and sulky. I've never understood why she was popular. I'd have more respect for her if she actually stayed in Spain to learn about other cultures, re-discover herself and enjoy the simple pleasures in life. But no, a rich man wasn't enough. She wants the 'old celebrity life' back.
Boo hoo hoo. Not all of us earn money because of a pretty face. Some of us have to earn a living after years of studying, and without the benefit of a rich husband.

I remember when I moved into college accommodation and an American student came screaming with joy that there was another bathroom at the end of the corridor. I was absolutely disappointed when I found out it was just another toilet. Please, bathroom is where you have a bath, unless some people really do have a bath in the toilet.

Oh puleeeze! Open your eyes, because she sure as h*ll had her eyes opened. With the help of a surgeon's knife. As someone said, there are loads of 'before' photos on the internet. And I've seen her, as a teenager, in a Japanese movie, before she got really famous. She looked completely different.
smorkian:
Being famous, well-liked (by HER fans) and being rich has NOTHING to do with self-respect. She's done exactly what Michael Jackson's done.

I'm not surprised she's bagged a foreigner. She's done everything to make herself look western - the eyes, nose, bleached hair. Can't some people have a bit more self-respect. This marriage with a novelty gaijin husband is not going to last long - agree with Papi. He was reported to have said he's getting married to a beautiful woman. I hope he understands that if he has a daughter, she won't look ANYTHING like this 'beautiful' woman. And if they ever get divorced, he'd better know how Japan deals with kids with a divorced Japanese parent.

Sings well??????
I really beg to differ. I've heard her sing in one of her concert DVDs while in a record shop. I really did wished she lip-synched. There are a lot of Japanese artists who can actually sing, but she is not one of them. Laughin' all the way to the bank, no doubt.

Adaptability? If Japan could adapt, then it should have done so at least 15 years ago. I don't see anything on the horizon for Japan. How much longer are we supposed to wait?
