Many of the comments by the anti-veg*n posters here are typical of those I have to encounter now and again whenever I mention the V word. I just have to say I'm vegan and then others will get all defensive, as if they've had a carrot stuck up their backsides (just look at all the negative ratings). I don't care what others eat and have never lectured others, but some people are just plain rude. If you can't become vegetarian, then don't. Never asked you to become one and I've never met another vegetarian who preaches. I've seen more preaching from Christians. Just as smokers should not give up the fags if they love them.
Janetto:
I wish some of those HK eateries existed in Japan. The Taiwanese are pretty veggie-friendly too. The Japanese have little concept of vegetarianism nowadays, but unlike the Chinese in general , they are willing to try dishes without meat.
To whoever equated non-fat with veganism:
Boy, you're a sitting duck for PETA. You're going to get plenty of fats (and good fats, may I say) from avocados, nuts, oils, etc. It ain't just about lettuce leafs and carrot sticks.
Anyway, good to see some non-vegetarians respectful of others, like bluewitch. My own relatives have become more understanding - I get delicious home-made vegetarian nira gyoza. But it's so ironic that most people who criticize my vegan lifestyle (including some relatives) are overweight, have diabetes, have had heart bypass surgery and/or smoke.
anglootaku:
By the way, no leather shoes or wallets here, although I've always wondered why my Hindu friends never objected to leather. So you've met many vegans then? Sure. I believe ya!

Yeah, Jesus was a vegan. And Pol Pot was a meat-eater. Your point is?

Every year is different - Sometimes I use HIS, sometimes I buy directly from the airline. And the cheapest airline is not always the same.
Do these airlines and travel agents in Japan think that the ordinary customer only pays for the basic fare and that Santa Claus will pay for the surcharge and taxes? Who cares whether the 'fare' is 50,000yen when we end up paying 120,000yen?

People only bought it because it was dirt cheap for a limited period. I would have bought one myself had I been quicker.

China was ahead of Japan because you get different points depending on how many sets you win in each match. Read the article. Winning 3-0 gets more points than winning 3-2. China, I believe, took at least 2 sets from ALL their opponents. That was not the case with Japan.

As someone who hates breathing in cancer-causing smoke, I do think smokers should be allowed to smoke in their cars IF there are no children and other passengers do not object. I do believe that smokers have some right to try and get cancer quickly and suffer a horrible death if they want. As for other regulations already in place in civilized countries, I wish they were in place in Japan too, as Jamie says (don't know why he's being marked down). Smokers deluding themselves that tobacco is like candy? I refuse to go into restaurants which do not provide adequate protection from lung cancer.

Oh, pleeeze! Did that come out of the bible? Animals existed way before humans came to being. And while some animals do eat others, I've never heard of any animal skinning another to wear their fur. To me, there isn't much difference between leather and fur which is one of the reasons I'm a vegan. I want to minimize my part in the use and abuse of animals. However, I do understand why some would regard fur as worse than leather. If an animal is to be slaughtered, I would rather see as much of it used as possible. I believe that's how some people think, like the Inuits. As for you opinion that animal rights people are nutcases - that's your opinion. In my opinion, people who wear fur but don't have the guts to skin animals like dogs and cats alive themselves are hypocrites, especially materialistic airheads like this ugly girl in the photo.
Shame on her. Would she skin a kitten?

You sound as if you know the final score. Where are you getting the information? They've done well to get the first 2 sets. But I do wish the commentators would stop all the background drama stuff, sob stories and what-not. Just show the match.

Dang, elbuda Mexico must be mad! ha!
Anyway, with no TV at home, I haven't seen any of these matches, but watching one now (JPN v USA) has just reminded me why I threw away the TV in the first place. Every shot, every replay is focused on the home team, you'd be hard pressed to guess who the opponent is. I too wonder why time and time again these events are held in Japan most of the time. They managed to rope in the soccer coach and asked the usual 'what do you think of Japan' BS questions, while sitting next to tarentos and others unrelated to volleyball. It wouldn't be so bad if the crowd was gracious enough to clap when the other team wins a point. I remember a few years back some matches were held in Hong Kong and Macau. The home crowd were kind enough to cheer whenever Japan won a point. I also notice that the official homepage does NOT give live results in you live in Japan.

It sure has, when certain people marry willy-nilly only to get divorced over and over again. Other examples include people marry for cash and media exposure (Kim Kardashian - are you listening?).

You do look at the ingredients of the food you buy, right? Bread and cakes - shortening. Onigiri - preservatives and other numbers. Sandwiches - no brown bread and always ham ham ham. I'll admit, salad is healthy. But it sure burns a hole in the wallet.

Oh dear, I think I've offended some people. The truth hurts.
That's not due to convenience stores in Japan. That's due to Japan being safer in general.

I didn't see this competition, but the last one which was in China, I think, was a right fiasco. Skaters were falling left, right and center, and somehow Oda still managed to get a silver. He was very very fortunate. I'd say his young compatriot, Hanyu, skated much better (until he fell to pieces). I don't know whether they showed everything on TV, but the program I saw only showed the last 4 men - as a consequence, the Chinese guy whose free program was by far the best (judging from the scores) and who went on to win the bronze wasn't shown. Don't you just love 'highlights' on Japanese TV?
