I am disappointed. This person should be listening to Japanese pops. You're kidding, right...?

BTADT:
Don't know, but the Japanese football team players have had European and Brazilian coaches, so should they represent other countries? (Not that I think any country wants these players). Should Nakamura Shinksuke represent Scotland? I just smell sour grapes, and I'm not talking about Asada.

Don't worry, Sarge. From when you fall asleep tonight until you wake up tomorrow morning, Ando will be winning the gold.

I had no idea the medals were that big.
When people like me say Asada, do you honestly think we're so stupid as to think Asada is a given name?
As for the Korean, Kim isn't her first name, but neither is Yuna. Kim is her surname and Yuna her given name.

I can, and I'm glad Kim won. Hell hath no fury like a Korea scorned. The Chinese too must be glad, because it deflects attention away from Korea's disqualification yesterday.
nothlondon:
Despite Rochette coming in third, this article has talked plenty about her. I think you're just peeved that Kim won.
madoka:
Once again, presumptions based on nothing. I don't see why Kim would want to quit.
I'm hoping that it's just a mistake in your English, but why on earth would you want a 'controversy'? Don't you think the rivalry between Koreans and Japanese is intense enough as it is?

I don't know who Joran is, but I'd prefer it if you don't mention Woods or Tyson (especially Tyson) in the same paragraph as Kim.
northlondon:
Why are you mixing my quote with someone else's? I hope you're not still angry because the British skater didn't even qualify for the free. Congratulations to Rochette, but sympathy alone won't get you the gold. She done her country proud and she deserves a gold for pure courage, but Kim and Asada were better at skating. Or do you belong to the BNP?
Bebert:
I don't know, but why was one poster yesterday going on and on, saying that Asada had the more difficult routine in the free? Someone's wrong.
smith:
Yes, I can't quite describe it, but Asada tends to be nervous, or that's how it seems to me. The TV programmes are already talking about her life story. I really do hope they don't put even more pressure on Asada.

I've met a number of hot-headed Korean oyajis/ajosshi in my life too! KIm certainly has maintained her cool throughout the games.

Certain posters didn't or refused to see this coming.
That performance by Kim was unbelievable! Yet again, she breaks a record, and beats Asada in the free by a very wide margin. There's now no doubt who the number one skater is. One poster kept on drumming it into our heads that Asada normally makes up and will make up any deficit in the free, and that just because no female skater in recent history has won both the short and the gold, Kim would likely not win the gold. Well, that's changed the trend! She is in a league of her own.
Probably Asada's first slight stumble made her lose concentration which led to her next mistake. I don't know whether Rochette could have gotten silver had she skated a cleaner free, but I guess it's never easy to beat Asada (unless you're Kim). Ando skated well, but was downgraded at the end by a happy Nagasu. Well done to the top 8 skaters. Suzuki did well, no doubt because she felt much less pressure.
One more thing. I really do wish NHK would not interview skaters when they burst into tears. The cameras just kept rolling when Asada couldn't keep her emotions in. Makes great TV viewing, I'm sure, but I just thought it was thoughtless and plain rude.
Now, let's get back to Toyota!

Traditional fields which originated from China, you mean? Don't tell me, you're also scared that China wants to make more noodles, tofu and chopsticks.
I suppose you're not aware of the fact that Japanese companies are making a killing in China, tapping into the resource called 'Chinese customers'.

I just cannot, for the life of me, understand why people can't wait till they've left the restaurant to smoke. What is the big rush? Do smokers really enjoy stinky food too?
tmarie:
you have to make the waiters know that you won't come back as long as there are no non-smoking sections. If enough people kick up a fuss (hardly likely, in Japan), then they'll get the message.

Thank you Cleo.
Just thought I say that I'm not working at a place where we are encouraged not to take days off. My colleagues and I are lucky in that we have about 20 days off per year, in additional to 7 summer holidays, the new year holidays and all the public holidays. We are encouraged to take them all, and at anytime. It's just that I myself have been busy with work. BTW, no, I am not an English teacher.

I know! Hahaha! But seriously, I've got 26 days worth of holidays I need to take off before the end of this fiscal year. Somehow, I don't think I can use them all by then. For your information, I'm taking Friday off too!!!

I just finished watching the figure skating (took a day off!). Kim's performance, which I believe was a record breaking score again (just how many times can she break records?), was absolutely stunning. I couldn't see anyone else skate with such grace, elegance and sexiness, while nailing down those jumps. It's always a pleasure to watch her performances. The choice of music was great.
Technically, Asada was very good, but I just feel that she's slightly missing something in her artistic interpretation. And the choice of music, as people have said before, could have been better. But she's still 2nd place, nonetheless. Ando made a slight mistake on the first jump, but she can still get to the podium if she doesn't crumble a la Turin. She's got two Americans right behind her though. Good on Rochette for being able to pull it off despite her recent loss.

I also make it a point to ask the waiters when I go in if there are any non-smoking areas. And I tell them I probably wouldn't go back if they don't.

That's not a good enough excuse. Men are usually quick.
How would ANA feel if men said they felt 'uncomfortable' after a woman's been using the loo. All that perfume smell, 15 minute wait while they put on the make-up, etc. blah blah blah. Yes this is BS but so is the female excuse, just as ronaldk says.

I'm still confused as to why they still don't open up the main road in Akihabara to pedestrians on the weekend. Is this some kind of Japanese logic?

BTW, now that Japan is out of the semi-finals, I wonder whether we'll get to see those matches, or whether we'll be lumbered with 'Japanese highlights' again.

Wasn't there? Yesterday, after losing a match on NHK BS1, they started showing highlights. OK, I thought, highlights straight after a match are normal. But then, I noticed these were highlights of ALL the Japanese matches so far. For God's sake, the curling event isn't even over yet, and instead of showing something live, they go over and over Japan's past matches. A real time waste!
Just like the ski jump event when the Japan team lost. They then decided to go over their victory in Nagano. (Probably because that's the only way to see Japan with gold - by going over ancient TV footage).
Just saw it. I don't think any other participants cry as much as the Japanese. Even the coaches of some foreign skaters were quoted as saying that they wish they would not cry in the kiss and cry area.

Well charge the people a fee for using these exclusive bogs then. Guess what? Sometimes I need the seat down,m but it's up, and sometimes I need it up, but it's down. I don't moan - I just move the seat myself! And it's not as if someone else can come inside when you're using the toilet.
What next - otohime for shy women?

I'm not going to miss this today, am I? Didn't see it, but I did see the last part of their game against Britain. Their last throw, I have to admit, was really good - knocked out the Brits and earned Japan an extra 5 points.
