Making siestas common here would be great. I know a lot of people who sleep in the afternoon in meetings and in front of the computer. Siestas ain't just for kids.

Dear, dear, dear. Why all this hate toward this guy (who I don't know myself)? Nobody (except perhaps sore losers like Plushenko) is saying he should have come first just because he did that 'trick'. You sound bitter and angry. Try getting out the other side of the bed next time.

Too much junk food. Like supermarkets in Japan, the bread (especially by Yamazaki) is total crap and trans-fat laden (show me something without shortening pleeeeeeze!). As for no vegetarian stuff - this is Japan - nothing's complete here without either ham, katsuobushi and gelatine.
In one sentence - service great, food crap. And too many of them - there were 5 of them within a 5 minute walking distance from my old apartment, in addition to 3 large supermarkets. They did help me on the night of 3/11 - I bought a toothbrush and toothpaste because I was stuck miles away from home. I also pick up Amazon stuff from the convenience store.

Would I get into trouble if I wrote his name as yoshiki or Yoshiki? or even ヨシキ (I guess katakana is only for foreingers).

Akula:
That's exactly what I was going to say. Once you hear this 'Japan is homogenous' BS, my eyes start rolling and I think of people like Aso Taro. In addition to the 'I should be the polite one because I'm Japanese' BS in the author's second article, in her first article (which surprisingly was well received by JT posters), I switched off when she started rambling about blue eyes and broad shoulders in the third or fourth paragraph. These articles start of as sounding different or refreshing, but after a few sentences turn into the usual cliched stuff.
The author goes on and on about being different, but I'm struggling to understand in what way she was different. Did she have curly hair? (One of my Japanese colleague's sister was sent home from school in tears after being told to straighten her hair - she and her brother have naturally curly hair and are of 100% Yamato stock). Did she have lesbian tendencies? Did she associate with foreigners? Was she an ethnic Korean? Was she the only Goth in the school?
I'm glad she's happy now, but I'm not learning anything from these articles. Nothing personal to the author. Just my opinions.

Nasake wa hito no tame narazu
I've always wondered what this Japanese kotowaza meant? Does it mean that you should be kind to others because you're hoping for something in return in the future? Hmm...
At the end of the day, there are horrible people and nice people in every country. No country has a monopoly on generosity.

A bit like how we're forced to start celebrating Xmas a few months before the actual event, only worse. I'm just thinking of all the time and money wasted in US elections.

That's not saying much, considering Finland is in the north-east of Europe. Any other carrier going to Finland will take the same time if it's a direct flight. Example of advantages would be price, comfort, service, not charging the rip-off fee known as fuel surcharge, etc. And why would someone take Finn Air to go to places like Germany or UK? Direct flights are quicker, and they're not much different in price either.
Tip: If you don't answer the question, the readers will make up their own minds. Airline companies only advertise the full fare first if they're forced to by the authorities. What HK and other places do is irrelevant. In the UK, you're not allowed to fool the customers that way.
pawatan:
I'd support Shinkansen more if it was affordable. How come countries like China, Taiwan and Korea can offer the same services at the fraction of the prices here?

I really can't think of any other royal family in the world whose lives are dictated as much as the Japanese. I don't know how Princess Masako manages to smile all the time - and I mean all the time, in public. Her child needs to grow up and learn to survive as an independent person - or is the agency doing this on purpose. BTW good on the UK monarchy for going toward having women as heir apparent. However, if this ever happens in Japan (it most likely won't), I don't think Aiko would ever be up to the job mentally at this rate.

Elbuda:
You base a whole country (China) on the actions of a group of people and call them all filthy, and yet here we have horrible killings yet again in your country. I guess generalizations and stereotyping only works one way. I knew really nice Mexicans at college (I shared a room with one) and it's a shame they have to deal with this in their country. However, I'll try not to stoop to your level.

My wish list (as a cyclist):
To fellow cyclists:
For god's sake, use lights at night-time. You can buy red ones at 100 shops. Anything is better than nothing.
Look up, not down while riding. If your life depends on texting while cycling, then bring the phone to the level of your face.
To drivers:
Try looking left when you're turning left (I know, sometimes you have to spell out common sense).
When people are crossing the road and the pedestrian lights are green, you STOP! You don't crash into them.
