Weren't there previous scares at this place? I recall something happening a few years back. Also, something about workers using buckets.

I agree with some of the posters here - the Japanese keep bragging that Japanese rice tastes the best and they're always suspicious of anything that's cheap (local logic, I guess). They react with disgust at foreign rice, so why the heck should they worry that foreign rice is sold. The logic (shouldn't use this word too often) is that most Japanese wouldn't buy the foreign horrible stuff. Yes, I've heard that foreign rice is taxed several 100 % here. Still, the basmati I get here isn't that much more expensive than the average Japanese rice, but think how much cheaper it could be. At the moment, rice in the west costs a fraction of what it does here. Sorry, but I have no sympathy for people who charge through the roof. Just let those who dislike Japanese rice have the choice to buy foreign rice at a reasonable price. Plus, I would like the additional reassurance that the rice is not contaminated with radiation.

I don't grow money on trees personally, so cheaper products really are a godsend to me. You often get two types of everything in the fruit and veg section. Exactly the same. Okra, 80yen from Thailand or 150yen from Kagoshima. Peppers, 80yen from Korea or 200yen from somewhere in Japan. Mangoes 350yen from Taiwan, 2000yen from Okinawa. Those who want to pay more for Jp products - good on you. But let others have the choice.

Where's your great country? Actually, what you've said may be true, but I can't help wonder how much bitterness, jealously and hate went through your head when you wrote this and every other post.

Yeah such a shame. Only countries like Japan and USA are allowed to dominate the world. Damn every other inferior country!

Countries like China and India were looted too. However, nowadays, the Chinese have to buy the goods back.

Sorry, but as there are loony bins are walking everywhere, I just keep to myself. I hate it when someone smokes near me on the train platform - I'd like to through water in their faces - but I just walk away. I've also heard crazy stories of foreigners getting into trouble (even with the police) just for being the good samaritan.

I'm just wondering, is one of the prerequisites of being considered by Michelin the price of the food? Sorry, but I personally don't have money to throw around. I can find plenty of cheap eateries serving fantastic food.

Did Korea ask China to apologize for plundering Korea hundreds or thousands of years ago?

Who on earth from hundreds of years ago is still alive NOW! In fact does anyone still living know someone else who lived 100's of years ago. Meanwhile, some former Korean sex slaves are STILL ALIVE, but if the Japanese rightwingers have their way, this story will be dead and buried in the annals of a certain war which may or may not have happened.

I hope somebody provided some mud.

Some exchanges were personal, almost petty. Romney repeatedly chided Perry and former Pennsylvania Sen Rick Santorum for talking over him. Perry accused Romney of making false claims, and reminded voters that Romney had employed illegal immigrants to do lawn work a few years ago.

And you can bet your life, these guys will be united and there'll be handshakes everywhere as soon as the presidential elections start.

And Cain's rough treatment suggested it's possible that Bachmann, Santorum, Gingrich or Paul will have chances to rise in the polls

Hope not. especially the first two, Bachmann and the guy with the unfortunate surname, are real vile homophobes. Isn't Bachmann associating with the totally irrelevant Anita Bryan? Wouldn't surprise me if the guy with the unfortunate surname is in the closet. You get lots of them in the Rep. party.

Something people need to understand is that many Asians' earwax is not soft like western peoples'

My mother has always commented (after picking out my earwax!) that mine is harder than hers or pa's. I certainly don't see this as anything sexual or child fantasy, although if others see it that way, that's their problem. However, unless you're a specialist, like a doctor, it's very hard to get the earwax out if the ears are really blocked. Twice I've had to go to the doctors where they use a contraption to vacuum it out. Absolutely no pain. However, I have to admit, I get a strange, good feeling, when my mother use to do it - like one poster said, like getting your back scratched.

Lately, I've used Q-tips to clean the ears regularly. Just wiping the ears with a wet cloth isn't enough. I've been hesitant in the past to use Q-tips because I had actually pushed the wax in, making me deaf in one ear. I think the trick is to use Q-tips regularly (and gently) before wax builds up. The last time I had problems, I tried these special solutions with hydrogen peroxide. Depending on how much wax you've got, it could take up to 3 days, but it works! I never knew how much black gunk you could store in one ear canal! But for some stupid reason, I can't find these solutions anywhere in Japan.

To anyone who's interested, lots of earwax removal videos on youtube. Enjoy!

Wonderful cross-section of such highly distinguished artists,

Yes, when I first saw the title, I thought "Sweet mother of Jesus, not another one of these %'(&$#$&ist awards". But when I saw the photo and read the text......well, it's nice to see people with real talent and who have actually contributed to the world.

Is it me or is the United States the only country in the world where you DO NOT process through immigration upon international departures? There is NO immigration when you leave the country.

That's what I thought, after having gone through US many times. But during my last visit, I went through Dulles and we had to show our passports, just before going through the metal detectors (strange, but half the people, incl me, didn't need to go through those new body scanning machines). In fact, I was held up because the girl in front of me was having her passport scrutinized by the officers - apparently there was something wrong with her passport, like visa-overstaying.

we should all be boycotting anything made in china over this! maybe a sudden drop in export revenues will teach those commies some humanity.

Notice that the outraged people were .......wait for it........Chinese! Boo! Should I be disgusted at all Japanese people because no-one on that train bothered helping the woman who was being raped by the man sitting next to her? Heavens, using your logic, I should be boycotting USA too. Ten times over.

Let's see. Here we have an article on Samsung vs Apple in Japan and Australia, and yet the usual suspects have to bring up China. Well done, Elbuda - I can't wait to hear what your country has contributed to this world, apart from 30 ways to decapitate someone.

On a more related note, I do like the look and feel of the ipod touch, but I really do want radio and GPS. I have all but given up on this - this company keeps consumers waiting and waiting when all the good stuff goes to the iphone. I just hope Samsung improve with their Galaxy player wifi series which has everything including a slot for 32gb microSD, but could do with a bit more storage. Good luck - consumers could do with seeing a bit more competition. And I don't want to get tied up with itunes - drag and drop ability always gets an extra point in my book.

Fingerprint scanning makes it look as if only foreigners are the criminals. There are a lot of shady Japanese men coming in from South East Asia. Wouldn't fingerprinting Japanese also alert the authorities as to when a wanted Japanese criminal is trying to escape or come back?

As long as customers are tied to these expensive phone plans, I will never buy a smartphone. Just have a simple prepaid one which includes the usual mp3 player, camera and tv, and cost less than 4000 yen. What I really want is an ipod touch with radio and gps. I have a feeling this will never happen. Samsung galaxy player wifi5 looks promising - just have to buy it overseas.

Fortunately he moved a few weeks later (as a side note, the land-lady was dragged to his apartment later and was shocked by the holes in the wall, how dirty it was, etc.,

You mean he wasn't required to show the state of the apt to the landlady BEFORE leaving? I and my foreign colleagues have all had to show the landlords the apt before handing back the keys. Or does this not apply to Japanese tenants?

and she had to redo the whole place.

Same here, but the difference was that I left my apt spotless. Many landlords will rip you off, no matter how much they smile at you.

I was fairly lucky in my last apt where I spent several years surrounded by empty apts, although one guy two floors down once decided to play guitar and scream like a cat at 2am. Two of my foreign colleagues have had separate nasty incidents with neighbors below claiming that footsteps coming from their babies were loud. These scum were verbally abusive and very shady people. If anything, these are the people which landlords should refuse to take in. But instead, it's the usual 'gaijin dame' BS.

Elbuda is right, for once. I also blame the police for not doing squat about this. Whether it's these noisy neighbors, noisy rightwing demonstrators or noisy motorcycle riders. Absolutely useless and lazy.
