I'm having a hard time believing that someone with such a skinny frame has bangers that huge. I smell cosmetic surgery. Didn't realize she was 34. Do tarentos like her really have to act like 12 year old children to be popular?

Think the title of this article is misleading. I wonder if even 1% of the people of China feel any better off than they were 10 years ago?

Search and you'll find that the average household IS better off. There are still very poor people about, but changes have occurred on the whole. It may not be the bubble for them, but the again, you don't need to be a millionaire to live comfortably.

Uhm, I see someone disagree with my opinion, but I think that people who think China will implode are note realistic, it's more their wish, maybe

That's the feeling I get too. There's a lot of bitterness here. Many not only say China is going to implode, they WANT China to implode. For decades, western countries and Japan have enjoyed the fruits of the earth, but now that they're seeing China developing, coupled with that fact that these other countries are not doing well economically, a certain amount of resentment or jealously is popping up. Particularly for some conservative Japanese, they must be choking themselves now that it's mainland Chinese who are holding the fat wallets. And of course, USA wants to keep a monopoly of being boss of the world.

We’re bringing back antique Chinese treasures from Japan

And what the heck are they complaining for? They're getting the money, aren't they?

They really ARE able to make money!

I don't blame them (or rather the tarento and music industries). If there are gullible people with immature tastes willing to throw their money at you, my advise would also be to just take the money. Real easy money!

high quality fruits and veges grown organically ( 100% Organic ) especially in Japan costs a lot of time and money for the farmers

That applies to many countries. And yet, organic fruit and vegetables in countries like the UK cost less than the ordinary ones in Japan. And it's not as if you can find that much choice here. Is there something in the books that says Japanese food MUST be expensive?

I think we should all be prepared to pay "More $$" for high quality good food.

It depends on how much yyy we're talking about. If you're willing to shell out 2000 yen for a Japanese mango or more for Yubari melons, be my guest. You've every right, but neither I nor my Japanese other half are willing to do so.

Why should we expect to pay cheaper for better quality food?

And why should we expect to pay more for processed stuff? Doesn't it cost to do more work? Shouldn't brown rice and bread be cheaper because it's less processed than the white stuff? It's not helped by the fact that most consumers here hate brown stuff (don't know why - is it the taste or does it have an image of being food for the poor?)

At the end of the day, food in Japanese supermarkets have lots of fertilizers, pesticides, sugars, artificial colors and flavors, etc. Japan is no better than other developed countries when it comes to food being healthy. People should stop comparing with China - that's another story.

I don't care what it is, I'm not eating any food if I know it comes from Fukushima or the neighboring prefectures. I've also tried to avoid vegetables grown in Kanto, but you never what the heck they use in the cafeterias and restaurants.

I understand the govt. wants to appease the farmers, who would get their meat onto the market no matter what condition it was in

This makes them NO better than some producers in mainland China who'll do anything for that extra buck. They'll use chemicals or hormones to visually improve the food. Likewise, these farmers aren't sure whether their food is contaminated but they don't give a damn as long as the money comes rolling in. I feel sorry for the vegetable growers, but they should be compensated or assisted financially, not force feed everyone with food that may or may not be contaminated. This reminds me of those people selling whale or dolphin meat knowing full well they've got heavy metals, just to further their own cause - screw everyone use, like children.

You're going to regret that if you find out the person's actually a Mormon too.

Thank you for this article. It's a shame that healthy food has to cost more than crap like McDonalds. I just wish there were more of these restaurants just outside of central Tokyo, ie the neighboring prefectures. It would also be good if there were cheap shojin ryori places - I've no idea why they have to be so expensive, considering that they are so cheap in Taiwan and HK.

Out of the two above, I've tried Loving Hut and Saishoku Kenbi. LH was small but food was ok. Could have done with a bit more choice. The international group that runs it seems a bit of a cult, but their recipes on youtube are great. Their Taipei branch was better. I hear they have one in London and other cities abroad. SK was really yummy. Well worth it.

And so far, I could not find XL or 3L in their shops in Japan, so they have lost at least one customer.

Am I the only one here who's not obese? The sizes at Uniqlo are just right for me. And all I usually find on the discount shelves are clothes in XL and XXXL sizes - no wonder Uniqlo have given up on these sizes if no local wants them.

    @Pukey2,

I'm not in Okinawa, I live in the international city of Kobe. johninnaha miss quoted me!

I never said you were in Okinawa. I was replying to john!

For breads I pay between 300-1,000 depending on the type, size etc. Sometimes we buy a German rye bread with walnuts for about 1,000 but it actually lasts about 5 days.

1000 yen? That says it all.

You keep talking about prices, so I guess you are still quite new to the country? But can I ask you, do you earn more or less salary than you would in your own country?

About the same. I bet you thought I was going to say less. Sorry but I'm not FOB.

I always recommend all foreigners to stop comparing prices with their home countries because it will just do your head in!

You're right there! However, please don't think foreigners are the only ones complaining. My Japanese partner is just as disappointed when we see certain fruits for 2000 yen a piece. When we visited the UK recently, this is just some of the stuff inside my partner's suitcase - packet of ASDA soups for 10p (yes - 13 yen for 3 sachets!!!), lots of cheap chocolate chip cookies (without the ubiquitous trans-fat), Maggie sauce for less than a pound,Terry's chocolate orange, more soups, and the list goes on. I myself got a 1kg (or was it 2kg?) tub of pure peanut butter (without the hydrogenated fat crap or sugar) and this cost me about 300 yen. Double that price for a typical small jar of Japanese peanut butter (triple if you want it without trans-fat). Got 1kg bags of brown basmati 1 pound each. The list goes on.

Half the stuff you can't get in Japan. The rest you can, but you'd better be prepared to travel and lose a lot from your wallet. Not all of us are made of money.

    2020:

Seriously, if you're going to get married, can't you wait till after the wedding.

I don't understand. I thought they happen at the same time.

Obviously, eating, listening to music and reading JT while typing at the same time was never one of my strong points. What I meant to say was, if you're going to plan for a baby, can't you wait till after the wedding? Especially seeing that she says they were going to get hitched next year.

I don't know this bimbo personally, but if they stay together, then good for them. But I'd be surprised if they last more than two or three years. Typical examples of have sex / get pregnant / announce wedding / have baby / get divorced when just after baby learns to walk:

    Amuro Namie

    Leah Dizon

    Hirosue Ryoko

    ad nauseum

    Crunch:

Pukey2, to hell with the law and to hell with society's arbitrary judgements too. If a man and woman do right by eachother and do right by the child they create, that is enough and all that really matters. People who take pleasure in judging others on stupid little details be damned.

Absolutely. People should be able to do want they want (ie have a baby, providing they can provide a loving home) and that includes single people and gays. But why are people here following the same ridiculous pattern? Personally I don't think marriage is that important anymore and it's certainly lost its shine when people can marry and divorce willy-nilly. Are single Japanese women not allowed to write the father's name down on the birth certificate if she is single?

Some, like Johnny's Entertainment, have even gone so far as to actively delete every promotional video of new and old releases from YouTube.

    Are they embarrassed?

but their appeal is limited by cultural factors - 13-year-old girls jumping around in miniskirts may not necessarily fly with consumers outside of Japan.

That says it all. While I am no fan of all this J/K pop crap, when I see K-Pop female groups, I see women. When I see J-pop female groups, I see either very young girls, or older girls acting like a 10 year old. I see more maturity in K-pop bands than I do in Matsuda Seiko.
