Good to see more Japanese going to Hollywood, Memoirs of a Geisha was a good film though ruined by not using a Japanese actress, just didn't seem authentic enough.. so more REAL Japanese actors/actress is good

I fully understand you. I'd wish Hollywood would stop using Australian actors like Nicole Kidman, or British actors like Robert Pattinson to play Americans. How can they understand a foreign culture. And what were they thinking when they cast John Cho as a Star Trekker named Hikaru! It's not as if they're actors.

As for Memoirs of a Geisha, the Chinese actresses' spoken Japanese was terrible. It was so bad, I thought they were speaking in English.

High rises should be built in the tsunami stricken areas in the higher level areas like they do in Hong Kong.

They build them everywhere in HK, not just on higher land.

I've seen a lot of new apts in Tokyo, and they're damn expensive for their size.

For not knowing where the hell they're going, for needing you to tell them which way to go:

Pick any city in Japan like Tokyo or Yokohama (my experience)

    .

    For the most expensive ride:

    Pick any in Japan.

    .

For giving you a heart attack in the way they drive and how fast they drive:

Pick one in China - my experience: Shanghai

    .

For not understanding the local language:

I hear it's NYC. Not sure about this though.

For what? Handing out onigiris to the needy?

I only hope Wen Yeye is sincere about all this. I don't want to see people (scapegoats) being punished just for the sake of it. I'd like to see them learn real lessons from this, punish those who were really responsible and make sure this doesn't happen again.

His public admission of illness was a highly unusual move in China, where the health of top leaders is considered a state secret, apparently due to concerns that sickness might affect the appearance of stability in the party.

I wonder whether Jiang Zemin is still alive. Last I heard, he was reported dead by the HK media a few weeks back, then absolutely nothing. Media blackout on the mainland.

Japan - safest in the world. Never any problem or death. Latest, high-tech development, safety procedure and so on. China and all of asia - all trains dangerous

First, Japan's is the world's safest. Next sentence, all of Asia's is dangerous. Contradicting yourself, aren't you?

Agree with kchoze. You've got to put everything into perspective. You're more likely to get killed in a road accident. I've traveled on the HS trains in China and I'd do it again. That's not to say they should sweep this under the rug. And I'd rather do that than eat Fukushima cucumbers. But to each his own.

Mao`s an idiot !!!! I can see them divorcing soon.

Especially now that she's given birth. However, good on them for actually having a baby AFTER getting married!

Good! Back to the old days when everyone had to put in 100% elbow grease instead of relying on swimwear manufacturers to come up with a miracle formula. Perhaps there should be a standard kit for all swimmers.

this crash is a result of the communist party rushing things, stealing tech, cutting off the foreign companies, being braggarts. its a classic example of commies sacrificing its people for the glory of the party.

That last part explained why there's a touch of bitterness in your posts.

    canadaguy:

A few weeks ago it was claimed by Wang Yongping that no Japanese technology was used in Chinese HSR. Today, it's being said the trains involved are Japanese J/V trains.

I don't know what this guy said, but it's plain and simple (check wikipedia and other websites) that China's HSR has used technology from many countries. It was never a secret.

Yes, once again, America knows best. When China has disputes with its neighbors, as many countries do, it's a worldwide threat which America needs to put their nose in (history repeats itself - hasn't America learnt this?). But when American troops are literally in every corner of the world, it's suddenly for the good of mankind. I don't see China stationing its soldiers in Cuba or the Mexican border. And yet US military is right on the doorsteps of China.

the UN forces should have continued north into china using atomics to balance the numbers

Now that is sick. Typical of the 'invade and kill first, ask questions and look for weapons later' mindset. You certainly don't mind getting innocent people killed just to get what you want. And please don't pretend you care about the millions being 'sacrificed' by the Chinese government.

I think this was always expected, but still a shock when it actually happens. I've never been a fan of her as a person - seen too many clips of her half-cut, behaving badly and generally being a really nasty and difficult person. But there is no doubt about her talent - what a waste. I do like some of her songs from Back to Black, and I loved her rendition of Valerie on Youtube.

hmm, I'm on my way to Narita now, heading for Shanghai. probably I won't use their train this time. RIP all the poor guys

Get over it. Aren't you scared of flying either because last time I heard, plane accidents occur too? And I wonder if you've taken JR in Osaka because one train was known to have flown right into an apt block while going round a corner.

    Nandakandamanda:

Let's just hope the authorities learn from these accidents. Because they still have a lot to learn.

I wish the supermarkets would offer cucumbers from places other than Fukushima (and Saitama). It amazes me that so many people are still buying Fukushima cucmbers.

As for rice, I've always avoided buying Japanese rice whenever possible.

Why does almost all curry in Japan have to be meat based?

As a vegetarian, that's my biggest complaint about curry (and food in general) in Japan. I just visited the supermarket today and found a packet of dhal. It had meat. I'm not an expert on curries, but I have never in my life seen dhal with meat. Now and again, there may be a truly vegetarian curry, but then it disappears from the shelves after a few weeks.

I agree with some others - once you've tried real home cooked Indian food (lovely South Indian food from my old Indian colleagues), then you'll realize what the Japanese are missing out on. The same old four types of curry and naan gets boring. And the restaurant food is particularly greasy and very rich. Not a fan of Japanese rice with Indian food, just like Mr Roper.
