After 9/11, the US Federal gov't masterminded a system to bridge the communication between local/state/federal agencies during times of crisis. Nice to know after millions of dollars, it still doesn't work. Many people knew of this flight, but again a case of the right hand not talking to the left hand...

Great musicians, fantastic songwriters, undeniably talented gents...but live? I'd rather spend the money on rent, as that's what tickets will cost, and sit at home watching my Graduate LP spin on the turntable. For those young folk who don't know what that is...

I wondered the same as Ninjazilla, as her face looks totally resculptured. Not in a bad way, mind you...

I wish someone would have bailed me out when I bought my Dodge. The government can't come running when every business overpays their CEO's and make's marginal products.

Bets are on that there will be a total failure within minutes after launch, as usual. NK's continual boasting that this is a communication satellite is tiresome. Meanwhile, keep looking to the skies, chicken little! Something is falling!

    Smartacus,

I base my comment on a recent on a first hand account: last year 20+ people won a contest to watch a movie premier with Cruise, in their own city. He flew into town, shook hands and was very gracious, then within 20 minutes of the film starting he snuck out the back door and was gone. With that I am not wrong, but I do agree that he is a very nice man and he does what he can, with his limited time, to meet his fans.

Bebert is right -- It's been noted that Cruise is sincerely appreciative of the people of Japan and is very respectful of Japan's culture. Problem is, though, he tends to make an appearance at these "lucky fan" events and bows out very quickly. Catch'em while you can.

There's no way to prosecute such a case, and the local authorities only pretended to consider it out of media pressure.

At least he admitted that he inhaled...

I thought I recall hearing her tattoo was her childs name. Regardless, a tattoo is a permanent self-expression that has absolutely nothing to do with lack of self-respect or anything of the sort. It's a personal choice, not a psychological gauge. The real issue is culture, in which Japan is not a tattoo-accepting society. And that's fine. Everywhere else in the free world this wouldn't be of any discussion.

The yearly display of self-indulgence from the Music Industry. But, I must admit, Adele is a great singer and deserves her award. And a quick note to Mr. Plant --- Zepplin is calling... please answer!

The ecomonic crisis didn't seem to stop anyone from seeing Clapton, Rod Stewart, The Who, etc. Her blame-game is a very poor excuse. Fact is her recent album tanked and we're all tired of seeing her weight fluctuate like a yo-yo. Pull the cord now, so we can all enjoy that one good Jimmy Jam produced song from the '80's. Forgot the name...

Another packed nightclub with 300+ people and only one exit door. And again a devestating fire taking innocent lives. I had hoped the Rhode Island/Great White disaster was a final wake-up call. My condolences to the familes, and a hope that eventually owners of similar clubs will take steps to insure this doesn't happen again.

I'm amazed at the resugence of this band. I mean, I somewhat was amused by them in the past, but were they really that good?

If you know the area, it's a densely populated suburb of San Diego that stretches right up to the airstrip. Really, no different than any airport in any urban city. The crash being a military jet should make no difference; it was an accident. I know of no Pilot, military or commercial, who didn't fight with their disabled plane until nothing more could be done. Truly tragic for all involved.

The FA-18 has proven itself a great airplane. If you saw the wreckage, it's amazing that only a couple homes were totally destroyed. Coming in out of control at 200+ mph, the damage could have been widespread and catastrophic. I sincerely believe the pilot did all he could to save more lives, before ejecting. My heart goes out to those lost in this terrible accident.

2008 wasn't great for J-Music, yet I would give a nod to Chatmonchy. Foreign music was a slight better, with groups like Arcade Fire, Sonny J, and Dan Le Sac vs. Scroobius Pip. Of the indie-bands, the LA rockers Waxapples put out a great album.

Hard to narrow it down to one. Let's hope for a better 2009...!
