Overall, the A330/340 has a pretty good safety record. Yet no plane is perfect. The Boeing 777, compairable in size to the A330, had two mishaps where ice build-up in the engine caused loss of thrust in-flight, one a British Airways that crashed at Heathrow yet amazingly had no casualties. If people had died, we would all be complaning about the 777 and it`s iceing problem. Nothing is 100% safe...just safer.

Regardless of how his life spiraled into oddity, Michael Jackson was a music pioneer, excessively talented and was a massive force within the music industry. Off The Wall and Thriller were genre changing albums, and just pain brilliant. Just try, dear readers of JT, to focus on that aspect of his life, if possible. I know it will be hard.

My bet is the 2nd train engineer missed a signal. Hopefully not because of texting, like the commuter train crash in California several months back.

Even out in the flat open corn fields, Amtrak trains in the US barely hit 80 mph. A JR express does that passing through a station. The US is way behind in this race.

Wow Hammers, Bobby's AAA Spokane days go way back! Always fun baseball there.I think Bobby might want out of his contract if the owner says it's a financial issue. He'd be a great loss to Chiba, but I agree he'll be coaching in 2010. I'd bet with the Washington Nationals.

Music is a personal choice. Change the radio channel, don't by that CD if you don't like the music. Lady Gaga is not my style, but she is obviously someones. I respect others decision to listen, as I expect others to respect my decison not to.
But yeah, her sushi comment was worth bashing a bit.

Absolutely it was auto-erotic asphyxiation. Tell me how many intended suicides have a rope around the neck and the gentials? It's a dangerous game that many people play many times over, but just that one time, just a second to long with the neck rope, and death results. A tragic and avoidable loss.

There was no distress call when the autopilot was manually disengaged by the crew several minutes before the plane disappeared from radar. No foul play here. If a bombed had downed this plane, all functions would cease immediately, and there would be no autopilot notification sent. The pilot sent messages indicated heavy turbulence. A rare event, but a tropical storm took this plane down.
This was not an old airplane, yet hopefully is a wake up call to Airbus who keeps building planes bigger and bigger...

Tropical storms can reach up to 40,000 ft and while most commercial planes have capabilities to see storms approaching, they can still take a flight by suprise. These were experienced pilots who unfortunately met the Mother of all storms. We can only pray the plane ripped apart and rendered all passengers unconcious quickly. However the turbulence leading up to the end were hellish. RIP to all aboard and their families.

Wasn't John Doe first to say "We are X."
X Japan are fine in their own right. I'm not a fan, but I respect that they've earned their following. However they're just a rock band, and absolutely not emo. And definitely not a group that children should seek aspirations in, no matter how charitable Yoshikia claims to be.

The current album isn't their best, but the past couple Black Eyed Pea's records were great. But then I live in a country where bands like SMAP sell millions of records...to each their own.

A Love Hotel is for descretely slipping away for a rendezous with a loved one or someone elses loved one. Secrecy is the game, so I doubt they would violate this trust with a camera in the lobby, or outside for that matter. This'll be solved with DNA, or tracking the payment if possible. Or maybe I'm putting to much faith into the local police...

Sure planes may have leaks, but losing 6,000 pounds an hour is not a slight leak! On a 12 hour flight, that's a lot of lost gas. Yet finally, a story with a happy ending.

Unsafe toys...tainted food...poisoned childrens milk...are we now supposed to trust a Chinese built car??? No way. I'll stick with American trucks, German sport cars and Italian motorcycles, thank you.

Absolutley these Americans will be used as pawns for the NK cause. Fact is they are already considered guilty and convicted in the minds of the NK courts, even though the "mock" trial will start next month. What a joke. Time to shut NK off from the world. Forever.

Kim must be hungry for some corn fed Nebraska beef or needs parts for his Harley Davidson...he always makes this "tough talk" when he needs something personally. And really, is dissing the Russian envoy really a good move? No more dialog. Shut NK off from the world.

It was verified that the child was actually a Mexican citizen visiting family in Texas. The boy contracted the virus in Mexico. Not do downplay the families suffering, but the media took some liberites in reporting this one.
