    "softer stainless steel"

Stainless steel is actually harder than high-carbon steel. The steel in a sword needs to flex, if you used staintless it would snap.

Oh, and if they could make me a short sword or tanto for a resonable price let me know.

Time to ban right turns on intersections I think. Put up proper lights to tell people its safe to turn right instead of trying to sneak across between people on foot, cars shouldnt be allowed near a crossing when there are people on it.

The Prophet Mohammed of Islam married a nine-year-old.

Which says more about changing times than anything else...

Maybe it isn't rape, the girls might not have been forced into it, but it should be considered a major crime. I think a lot of people are getting stuck on terminology.

Weren't the Japanese begging for the F22 a few weeks ago? Can't see why they'd be doing that if they have such a high tech force.

Perhaps companies need to encorage experienced teachers with higher salaries, full time contracts, health insurance, bonuses etc. Make it a career instead of just a part-time job. That would dramatically increase the number of teachers who stick around.

Test them all, and make them get a license. I'm not sure that licenses will help the quality of English teachers, any teacher can remember answers to a test paper if taught to do so. Teaching is almost an art, there’s far more to it than just knowing basic grammar rules.

(and I do mean REAL teachers like myself, sorry, no offense to unqualified eigo no sensei's) I know a lot of qualified ‘real’ teachers that are completely incompetent when it comes to actually teaching a lesson. It’s not just about qualifications. Teaching experience and proper training are important for any job, however a lot of English schools don’t feel the need to bother with such expenses.

I’m all for the improvement of the general level of English schools in Japan, but when you think about the way most of these schools choose to operate, is it really a surprise there are so many teachers who don’t care about what they do in the classroom?

My sister was teaching at a pretty well known school, she quit after a few months, all the decent teachers do. The ones that stay for years are the teachers who don’t care about their lessons. However this is not the case with all schools, where I teach we have a lot of long-term excellent teachers, and the school provides regular training and purposeful observations. Incompetent teachers should be fired! I wish companies had more power to do so.

A lot of people are still hanging on from the bubble, where the Japanese companies would hire literally anyone with a pulse to dance in their classroom. When these people eventually run out (another 30-40 years), then hopefully English teachers will finally be able to get a good name for themselves.

Here’s to all the decent, hardworking, often underappreciated English teachers out there.

Sounds great to me, what Japan needs. The old will have to pay the young well to be looked after in old age, and I think the young are begining to realize that.

Leaving a 1 year old in the house alone is a strange thing to do, I'm guessing something very important/dangerous was happening elsewere. I feel sorry for the parents.

As long as the area they were living in wasn't the cause of death, and there are no remaining traces, I don't see why not.

Every week one student must attend carrying 30 i-phones. At least Apple will be happy...

Wierd wierd news. Surely there are a million better ways of dealing with this. And seriously, an i-phone as a study tool? Why not give them something useful, like a laptop computer (or something a little smaller).

Do Japanese universities really have that much extra lying around?

Draw the gun, tell him not to move, call for backup with the other hand. Tell him to come out slowly with his hands up? If he runs, give chase. Try to keep him in sight at least. Shoot him if he makes any threatening moves.

Of course its dangerous, but isnt that part of the the officer's job? A man dressed in black at the scene of a known(?) double murder? Surely its worth trying to catch him.
