Can any of the European set here tell us if this record-setting anti-Americanism we read of is as widespread and passionate as what the former Soviet Union faced back in, oh, 1968. The Commies rolled into and occupied what was Czechoslovakia and millions in Europe protested. Right? The demonstrations against that must have really been something else. I can't find much about em in history books or online though. What gives...

"Bush seen as yesterday's man in Europe"

Perfect. Maybe he can help them catch up.

UK Telegraph headline: "Europe 'needs 75 years' to catch US"

"...the European Union's research and development levels were achieved by America as long ago as 1979, while the lag time on per capita income is 18 years.

"It will take the EU until 2072 to reach US levels of income per capita, and then only if the EU income growth exceeds that of the US by 0.5pc," the study said." http://www.telegraph.co.uk/money/main.jhtml?xml=/money/2005/03/12/cneucham12.xml

I read the article twice but still can't work out who hates America most. This could make for a very provocative Japan Today survey:

    Who Hates America more

Is it the world's 1.2 billion oppressed and envious Muslims, insulted and envious Europeans, fearful and envious South Americans

    or

    US Democrats ?

Ahmadinejad: 'Wicked' Bush's term is at an end'

No translation is necessary. The surge worked. This guy is in trouble. The Al-Sadr block has been neutralized. Iran's forces in Iraq are on the canvas.

With the greater transparency and vastly larger amounts of information available to the public in the internet age, voters can judge the candidates' economic sense by the campaigns they run and how well they manage before they win office:

    http://www.weeklystandard.com/ Obama's Spendthrift Campaign

Just because the Obama campaign doesn't pay for cabs from O'Hare and staffers are expected to double-up at hotels doesn't make it frugal. Indeed, Obama oversees a team of 700 people--more than twice as many as Bush in 2004--the biggest, most bloated campaign in the history of presidential elections :

So far in 2008, combined campaign-spending data for the three most recent months available--February, March and April--show that Sen. Obama outspent Sen. McCain 4.5-to-1 on staff salaries, more than 2-to-1 on office rents, and 25-to-1 on broadcast advertising, according to the Center for Responsive Politics. Sen. Obama has about 700 employees on the payroll, scattered across 19 states. The McCain cadre is around 100, divided among a handful of local offices.

Why are Democrats admitting at last that there were ties between Al Qaeda and Saddam Hussein? Why did they release proof of these connections only hours after Hillary Clinton dropped out of race to be the Democratic nominee?

Real bombshell of an article, jahdog. Rolling Stone published it a year ago. That means the interview material was probably gathered at least two months before publication. So as of March or April of 2007 the expert you quote, Michael Scheuer, is giving this prediction about the surge, which would start a month after the music magazine hit the news stands and was in the hands of America's teeny boppers and aged hippies

Scheuer: No matter what happens now , the Islamists will have beaten both of the superpowers -- first the Soviet Union in Afghanistan, and now the United States in the heart of Islam. The impact of that in Islamic civilization is going to be enormous. We have made bin Laden a prophet: His organizing concept for Al Qaeda was "The Russians are a lot tougher than the Americans. If we can beat the Russians, then we can eventually beat the Americans." Even more important, Al Qaeda will have contiguous territory on the Arab peninsula to attack from.

“As in all relationships, the EU and U.S. sometimes have different views,” Slovenian Foreign Minister Borat Rupel told reporters before Bush’s scheduled arrival Monday evening.

“I feel nothing for him,” said Borat, a 29-year-old CD vendor.

“My opinion of him? Negative,” said Borat, 19, a student.

“I believe that it’s more important now for all of us to see if his successor would do any change,” said Borat, a 42-year-old clothes designer in the capital, Lzjpbljzndha.

“Iraq, today, does not represent a threat as it was during the former regime because it has become a constitutional country based on the rule of law,” the statement quoted al-Maliki as saying. “Iraq is working on developing its relations with the countries of the region on the basis of mutual understanding and cooperation.”

That is a remarkable response. How many nations in the region can make a statement like that? Iran certainly can't.

The Obama campaign is offering millions of dollars from the senator's war chest to poor old Hillary.

Is it a gift, or bribe, or payoff?
