War seems likely. The mullahs need to have something to show for 30 years in power. 1 million dead in a war with their fellow Muslims in Iraq didn't get the 12th Imam to show himself. Seems that by the mullahs' reckoning he is therefore waiting for a more pious, thermonuclear display of faith before he comes shooting up out of the well he has been hiding in these last one thousand years.

"Activists" Yeah. What exactly is it they are advocating? When asked, your typical anti-globalization dingbat can only ever tell you what it is they are opposed to.

What historical claim can Persia/Iran possibly make in attacking Israel's legitimacy? And why is this Persian presumption to not only speak for but act (with genocidal intent) on behalf of an Arab population that is mixed as the Jewish one in Israel never called "imperialism" or "hegemony" ?
Seen photos of these Revolutionary Guards in formation and saluting the medieval theocrats who run the country? They are Persian Nazis.

    Great headline.
Asia still amazes after all these years. I was sure no country could have stranger ways - rituals, basically - of venting en masse their displaced personal anger than could the Japanese. But there ya go...

How ironic. Our next Jimmy Carter, Barack Obama (who still won't release his birth certificate) is trying to call McCain out on who in America is legal and who isn't.

"The Iranians have a free election process. In the most recent elections, the electorate largely expressed its disapproval of Ahmadinejad's government."

Iran does not have a free election process. Candidates are screened by the mullahs.

Again, it is amazing how ignorant JT critics of America's Mid East policy are about some of the most basic facts.

"Candidates in Iran are screened for loyalty" By Nazila Fathi Published: March 5, 2008 http://www.iht.com/articles/2008/03/05/europe/iran.php

"Potential candidates are screened by the conservative-dominated Council of Guardians, who can disqualify those it deems unacceptable." http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/3441601.stm

'Because the Interior Ministry and the Council of Guardians, a sort of Iranian constitutional court, refused to approve a third of all applicants as candidates, the conservatives are running unopposed in some districts in the country. "The mass exclusion clearly shows that the election organizers want to keep the ruling group in power," says Sayed Madani. His group, the National Religious Alliance, is boycotting the election, calling it "unfair." ' http://www.spiegel.de/international/world/0,1518,541452,00.html

' Thinking nations have learned long ago: "Never trust America!" '

North Korea's Stalinist media claques bleat the very same thing.

"What that means, of course, is that he was never as far from center as he was portrayed."

Anyone who thinks the MSM portrays Obama as being far from the center doesn't get their news from American sources.

Two weeks ago Iran withdrew 75 billion dollars in assets kept in foreign banks, fearing sanctions by the governments these banks area accountable to would result in funds being frozen or blocked.

    They were European banks.

Better Tony Blair, GW Bush, John Howard and Shinzo Abe than Jacques Chirac, Jean Chretien, Helen Clark and whoever is playing Chairman Mao in China.

Obama's move to the center won't be limited to his position on guns. It will also include a significant modification of his 'position' on Iraq. And it'll be easy for him to change because it is little more than statements he puts up on his website.

The murder rate in D.C. tripled under the gun ban. Check the facts for yourself -

26.8 homicides per 100,000 people in 1976, when the ban became law. That was the lowest it would be for the next 30 years.

The murder rate peaked in 1991 at 80.6 homicides per 100,000 people.

The rate in West Virginia for the same period was 6.9 homicides per 100,000 people. [http://www.disastercenter.com/crime/wvcrime.htm]

DoD's quarterly assessment to Congress pretty much shoots down the speculation (and hopes?) of some here that Iraq is still a quagmire of some sort - hey, haven't come across that word in a while, eh.

From “Measuring Security and Stability in Iraq” -

"Iraqi economy grew 4% in real terms in 2007 and is projected to grow 7% in real terms for 2008, reaching an estimated gross domestic product (GDP) of $60.9 billion. Oil production increases of 9-10% this year-coupled with the higher prices of oil-should drive growth in that sector and support increased government spending. The non-oil sector is likely to grow at 3%. Core inflation fell to 12% in 2007 compared to 32% in 2006…"

The 9010 report stresses that the gains made in Iraq are fragile and could easily be reversed. The unspoken warning is to avoid losing the gains made and setting dates for what would be a premature withdrawal. Yee-up, I'm guessing that's why our Democrat-controlled Congress once again gave Bush what he asked for - The Military Construction and Veterans Affairs and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, (now known as the Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2008), passed the US Congress on Thursday, June 19, 2008, with a vote of 268 to 155.

$162 billion in war funding for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

    No time lines for withdrawal.
