It's within an establishments rights to ask that you do not bring in outside food. As for Starbucks Japan not being good there's a few things on the menu that are better than in the US for some reason. However I have to say I like Choco Cro better.

Botswana is keeping up regional pressure on Mugabe

At least someone's trying to do something. The West has almost zero influence in this matter, so until the AU adopts a firm stance against Mugabe this isn't going anywhere. On second thought even if all of Africa denounces Mugabe he wont budge.

I think the rankings make sense. As for Australia, I don't think it's that Australia isn't a peaceful country, but rather there are more peaceful countries out there.

How is Ramen a Japanese comfort food? It's from China... that can't be comforting to them at all.

The Japanese adapted it, and recently it has been re-exported back to China and is known in Chinese as Japanese ramen (Japanese lamian).

I wonder how this Russian boom can be accounted for.

It's certainly not a result of Russo-Japanese foreign relations. However it's nice that there should be a reading boom of any kind, regardless of what country the literature's from as people seem to be reading less and less.

The position of the Ainu is not much different from the Native Americans in American history.

That monster was "inhuman:, he was without remorse until the very end. The death penalty was made for sickos like him.

The US never should have invaded Iraq, however the US needed to invade Afghanistan after the Taliban refused to stop harboring Al Qaida. Though the Iraq War is a complete mess, the US needs to see it and the Afghan War through. I personally reject the claim that George W. Bush deliberately mislead the American public on the Iraq War, I believe he honestly thought he had accurate information from those in charge of providing said information (which is still not really an excuse).

I have no problem with nations seeking to acquire nuclear power for civilian purposes. However, it is crazy statements like these that prove that Iran is far too unstable a country to posses such a responsibility.

I think the selling of the sand is an insult not only to Japan's war dead, but also to America's as well.

Also, people need to remember that not all the Japanese who served in the Imperial forces were crazy warmongers, many were just poor farmers, and university students who were drafted into a war they did not believe in. Same thing happened in Europe too.

one day the world will not need oil and these buffoons will have no value to the world.

I agree, the oil producing nations really need to start diversifying their economies. Iran like North Korea needs to stop these little provocative, attention-seeking outbursts, if they ever want to be taken seriously.

To compare the US or Israel to Nazi Germany is a gross over-exaggeration. Furthermore denying the Holocaust as a myth, is to some degree anti-Semitic.

The sand of Iwo Jima belongs to the USA. It was bought with thousands of American lives.

Then perhaps the sands of the West Coast belong to Spain, or even the Native Americans. By saying such a statement you insult America by insinuating that America fought a war not just to stop Japanese militarism but also to conquer land.

Okyaku-sama wa kami (the customer is a god) and should be treated as such. On the other hand people are politicizing the issue and twisting it for personal gain. There needs to be change on both sides.

The customers, like here in Japan, are not getting the opportunity to say they don't want it. The government is interfering

The people are the ones saying they don't want it. President Lee Myung-bak supports the resumption of imports.

As ridiculous as these protests are, they do sort of have a point. The US should do a better job with their beef industry as it relates to consumer safety. However if one reads the article closely you notice:

spurred in part by false media reports about risks

This is a case of part misunderstanding, part ulterior motives (on the part of the protesters), and part deficiency on the part of American exporters.

Politics and food don't usually work well together

My apologies to the families of those abducted or think they were but Jpn has to let this go, its gone next to no where & I doubt it will in the near future.

Japan rarely if ever asserts herself, she has to put her foot down somewhere and say enough is enough.

I disagree with all those people who say Japan should give huge amounts of financial aid to North Korea. Japan doesn't own the North Koreans anything (except a better apology for colonization). North Korea's government should grow up and return the abductees or their bodies. Japan in return should provide food aid to the North Korean people as a gesture of good will. As for Japanese studying Korean as a mandatory second language, that's a terrible idea. Japanese are having enough trouble with English which is a much more important language from a global political and economic standpoint.

Why doesn't Japan adopt a modernized version of the old IJA and IJN uniforms with those snappy caps, white gloves and swords?

China and the Koreas would cry foul and accuse Japan of glorifying her militaristic past and so and so forth. The reaction to Japan's offer to dispatch airforce planes for post-quake aid for example.
