They aren't "allowed" to maintain nuclear weapons, but rather for the most part they are the world's strongest and most influential nations (US, China, Russia, France, Great Britain, India) and no one can really tell them what to do (that statement in no way condones their possession of nuclear weapons). In Israel's case, Israel hasn't officially confirmed having them (I'm sure they do), but also the West is more reluctant to press Israel as possession or the myth of possessing nuclear weapons acts as sort of an invasion deterrent. Even Iran which keeps issuing threatening statements toward Israel would hesitate to attack out of fear of being nuked (also US protection). Pakistan wont let go until India does. Nobody wants to be the first to disarm out of distrust towards the others, fear of loss of military influence, and nationalistic pride.

I see that people would be concerned about getting disease from eating beef, but I think it's being blown a little out of proportion, even Japan didn't protest U.S. beef imports like this. I'm sure overall resentment toward America is being projected on the beef issue.

Komura's comment sounds slightly paranoid, but with North Korea you never know. Also about Japan whining about the abductions, had it been the US, or a lot of other countries, there already would have been a war. It's Japan's duty to her citizens to protect them and seek closure on the issue. If it was such an unimportant issue, North Korea should have come clean a long time ago.

I think a person forfeits their right to live by unjustifiably taking another life. With Miyazaki's case, it wasn't even a one time thing. I hope the souls of his victims can rest easier knowing he has been punished. Also I believe there are many flaws in Japan's justice system just as there are in the justice systems of every nation. However, it's not as if Japan is executing large numbers of people for stupid reasons or on trumped up charges. Miyazaki's guilt was proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

I doubt the territorial disputes will be resolved for a long time (if ever). Russia will never give up the whole of the Chishima islands and certainly wont return Karafuto. South Korea will probably win the Takeshima dispute. However I think Japan might win the Senkaku dispute and the Okinotori dispute if her coral can outpace global warming.

I really don't see why the athletes can't eat food from their own countries. Does this involve all competing nations?

Could the meat have been purchased from Iceland or Norway? Japan does import whale meat, but that's just a guess.

I guess, Seinfeld, Dead Ringers, SNL, the Office, 30 Rock, although Monty Python, is pretty good too.
