There are 5 other countries besides the US fighting these fires. Where is our National Guard when we need them.

In large scale disasters, regardless of how capable/incapable a country is, foreigners often send aid. (Hanshin earthquake, Hurricane Katrina, flooding in Europe, etc.) However, I'm all for peace and an end to the war.

NGOs are as welcome in my country as Gordan Brown is

Exactly, Mugabe and his gov't hate both.

    your State Department

ummm...I'm only half American, so I don't know why you seem to be yelling at me over what the US gov't has done, especially as you seem to hate South Africa. As for Mugabe outwitting me, I don't see how, the man's insane, he has no wit. What are you even talking about with multi-nationals, who said they were destroying Africa?

quit complaining. It sounds a lot better than the so called "Premium Economy" these US airlines give us, which is nothing more than legroom. Prices are high for JAL but consider the amneties you recieve compared to other airlines.

Agreed, the US airlines pretty much all suck, Continental's okay but has seen better days (though they did upgrade their first class media system). Singapore and the Arab countries are probably the best right around now., though Korean Air isn't bad. I haven't flown of JAL for such a long time so I can't really comment.

What about those of us who weren't able to make it to Iwo Jima that day(the sand was collected), whose family members fought in that battle? Are we not allowed to buy a memento from a museum...

Families like yours should be able to apply somehow to Japan through the US military to get a memento, a much more respectful way of collecting the sand than buying it off of ebay or even the museum.

What's the price difference? B/c people seem to be complaining about it.

i really do hope the US military will one say leave japan for good so theyll have to spend trillions of yen on the build up of their own military. lets see japan try to talk to nKorea then..

Japan spends trillions of yen supporting US troops in Japan. Moderator: Readers, stay on topic please. The subject is the WWII bomb.

Isnt that enough reason to NOT have a US army bass in Japan?

I don't really support American bases in Japan either, but those bombs are left over from WWII, not from the post-war period.

In short, instead of trying to punish the regime, I propose that we offer assistance to it and to the people of Zimbabwe.

When NGOs set about trying to aide the people of Zimbabwe, Mugabe and his goons harassed them. There can be no peace and prosperity in Zimbabwe until Mugabe is out. Zimbabwe was once a model for post-independence Africa and now it is a cautionary tale of what not to do.

Like many other parts of Japanese culture such as tea ceremony, the Japanese raised martial arts to an art form, which is why it's stylized and might seem ineffective. However there are a lot of bogus instructors out there so that's part of the problem.

And to think some people want to expand the UNSC to have more seats....

We want to expand, while simultaneously removing veto power. Veto power gives the current members of the UNSC too much power, this isn't an age of imperialism anymore.

New York and Chicago have excellent public transportation that is often used.

New York's public transportation is disgusting, I've never seen Chicago's, so I can't say, but your right on the LA thing, the problem with urban sprawl, same thing happened in Houston.

In a separate statement, the Russian foreign ministry condemned the violence in Zimbabwe but warned the proposed U.N. resolution would have set a “dangerous precedent” for interference in countries’ internal affairs.

Of course Russia turns a blind eye to her own interference in Georgian, and Eastern European affairs. Russian backed Abkhaz forces waged ethnic cleansing against Georgians in Abkhazia, and Russia's always interfering in the Baltic States.

Narita has a lot more potential for expansion than closed in Haneda. Haneda's problems echo London Heathrow which doesn't have space to expand and compete with continental airports like Charles de Gaulle and Schiphol.

(wikipedia) "The Narita Rapid Railway, scheduled to open in 2010, will alleviate the problem to some extent by shaving 20 minutes off the travel time. It has been announced that new Skyliner express trains with a maximum speed of 160 km/h will travel on this new line between Tokyo's Nippori Station and Airport Terminal 2 Station in 36 minutes, which compares favourably with other major airports worldwide. Improvements such as the Wangan Expressway have shaved off travel time to Kanagawa Prefecture by bypassing Tokyo."

Posted in: There are about 40 nations that still want slots at Narita. In addition, for the eastern part of Tokyo, Narita is actually closer.

Though she shouldn't have done it in the first place, admitting and atoning for one's mistakes is an admirable thing. Hopefully people will look at this and think twice before doing something like defacing a cathedral (probably not). However this might just be a PR victory for Japan as a whole.

do not accurately represent the current world situation.

Exactly, the current UNSC represents the world as it was right after WWII, but times have changed. China and India are on their way to becoming superpowers, Japan is the world's second largest economy, Germany has a greater economy than France or the UK and is fairly influential, and Brazil is South America's most powerful state and one of the world's most populous. But perhaps instead of adding Germany they could remove France and the UK and add the EU? Western powers seem overly represented.

She hasnt been able to travel, much less leave the house for several years...whatever treatment they are using isnt working(and its scary to think of what the treatment is).

Not all be recover from a mental illness. Do you know for a fact that she has an incompetent medical staff? It's just speculation. Though I think she should be able to travel more, you seem to imply that she hasn't at all, she has been to the Netherlands in 2006, Australia in 2002, Belgium 1999, Jordan 1999, Kuwait, UAE, Jordan 1995, Saudia Arabia, Oman, Bahrain, Qatar 1994.

Narita wouldn't be half as bad, if there were quick and cheap modes of transport.

(from wikipedia) "The Narita Rapid Railway, scheduled to open in 2010, will alleviate the problem to some extent by shaving 20 minutes off the travel time. It has been announced that new Skyliner express trains with a maximum speed of 160 km/h will travel on this new line between Tokyo's Nippori Station and Airport Terminal 2 Station in 36 minutes, which compares favourably with other major airports worldwide. Medieval Times,

If you had looked a few posts back, you would have noticed I elaborated/clarified and anyway not all Japanese mental health physicians are sub-par, and I'm sure the ones treating the Princess are competent even by Western standards.
