Japanese TV is pretty bad and it's clear that unless remedial action is taken there will be more of these types of sad crimes as people fight over the right to press the standby switch.

This book might explain why television programmes here are at the highest intellectual levels.
My own, albeit poorly deficient Gaijin brain, often hurts after an hour or two of such cerebral fare.

Is this why they don't have to look where they're going when they walk down the street?

Looked at a place the other day. Asking rent was 230,000. Landlord wanted reikin of 3 months + a deposit. That's 920,000 just to move house, before you've even bought any new furniture etc.
I wonder what displacement effect this has on the economy? Surely it is better for more tenants with have more money buying things that suit their individual needs, than all the money going to one landlord.
The place didn't have double glazing, no central heating, and was built in the 1980s.
This country really sucks.

Kids might end up being good at mathematics if they're taught in Japan, and probably won't hang around with the wrong sorts that are so easy to find in the UK.
One of the major issues is that if they live in Japan long enough it is inevitable that they will take on the manners of the natives. In such a case, you have to question whether knowledge of advanced calculus or whatever is worthwhile sacrificing for a kid to have decent manners and not turn into an inconsiderate pig.

Must only be happening in the dodgy bars that are actually on the strip, either run by the Nigerians or the Isreali's (who send out girls to various bars and who then invite to a "really nice place they know" where they charge you $500 for a glass of wine).
Places on the strip suck anyway, and are generally only packed with the lowest desperados.

It's easier to get on with Japanese women than Japanese men, so of the very few Japanese friends I have most are female. It can be difficult though as a lot of people are quiet suspicious of such relationships. Still undecided whether it's best to be totally open about them, or just to keep them under wraps just to avoid any grief.

I get the impression that a lot, if not most, kids here are spoilt. Parents pay for juku, school, sports, even university. I can guess that a lot of them don't even pay any rent even though they're over 16.
As they don't become adults until 21 kids here can get away with a lot from their parents I think.

Best: Virgin, BA, ANA or Air France Good service, generally good films and entertainment, good selection of beers.
Worst: Scandinavian, KML, United Scandinavian and KML have really bad service. Last time I flew KML they only had Heinekan beer, for heaven's sake. Scandinavian are just rude. I couldn't believe it when the hostess on a United flight tried to charge me for a beer.
