How long has this chap been in Japan?
Go to Shimokitazawa, Koenji, or Kichijouji. There's thousands of small "live houses" where music is played by scruffy teenages with lank hair and skyward gazes.

Japan has been a cultural desert for over a month now. I'm sure most of us are anxiously awaiting his return so that Japan's otherwise very high quality television programmes can become even better.

Those bars they work for, go there and:
a) you'll be charged upwards of 400,000 for maybe one drink, or a private dance. b) marched to the atm in the morning to withdraw money c) drugged and wake up with 500,000 charged to your credit card.
If you want to go to a dancing bar in Roppongi, Seventh Heaven is probably safest.

Most JT posters tend to overreact to these types of issues. I remember the discussion regarding the fingerprinting at the airport. Now when you leave Japan they don't even bother doing it.
These card revisions will probably not lead to any major substantial changes. Having said that, increasing the frequency of visits to the windswept, desolate, dark pit of hell that is the immigration bureau in Shinagawa is a really bad move.

Wow, even Japanese people realise that it's mind numbing childish nonsense. Actually, recently for the first time even my in-laws were complaining that the TV is boring nowadays. They still watch it though.
Part of me hopes that we're on the cusp of a major change in Japanese TV. I'll believe when I see it.

Not surprised Zara is empty, menswear there is particularly natty.
Sure there's been an economic downturn and -48% quarterly growth but do people have to stoop as low as TopShop? This one development says more to me about the future of Japan than any government statistics.

In niche areas, some Japanese music is pretty good. However, pop by itself is for the popular market - in that sense being from Japan is not particularly generic and is always going to be niche.
I must admit that the popular music I've heard here seems to be equally as bad as the pop music I've heard from the UK or America.
