The weekend's fireworks were no big deal, and the attacks fizzled out with no big disruptions. Traffic and work is normal here on Tuesday morning. This was not a major offensive, and was only a minor disruption to daily life in Kabul. The report says, "The attacks raise fears over the precarious security situation in Afghanistan." but these three minor but coordinated incidents are insignificant in the overall history of war in Afghanistan. Whilst things here are not really great, this was no cause for greater alarm than normal, even if some new or inexperienced newscasters wet their pants when there were a few explosions. Hard to tell if they were talking it up for the ratings or were really as inexperienced as they seemed to be with a few bullets flying around.

This article could also discuss "I don't know" and the slight differences between this and "I don't understand" as these phrases are used differently in Japanese for what may appear to be similar meanings for native English speakers.

Does anyone have any further news on this incident and on Ms. Yokote Hiromi?
I used to go camping up by these hot springs quite often. They are really isolated, are popular in the middle of the night, and are 2-3 kilometers drive from the nearest houses at Myouban.
It is not at all uncommon for single visitors to come and visit during the day. And, there are quite a few onsen tsukiai, or hadaka no tsukiai, where complete strangers whose only commonality is a love of onsen, meet at the rotenburo. I even know of one marriage of a couple from Kitakyushu who met during individual trips to Beppu hot springs.
It is also risky to visit alone at night, not only because of the isolation (no electricity in the area) but also because the forest roads are narrow with cliffs close to the edges.
What a shame. I hope that the murderer has been caught, but I am finding no new information after September 9 or so. It is now October 11th.
