Being as that would have required reniging on the SOFA agreement GWB made with Iraq, a supposedly sovereign nation supposed to be learning to police itself, I guess we should be thankful McCain lost and Obama keeps America's word. GWB promised U.S. troops off Bagdad streets by June 30 and a complete withdraw by 2011. Obama is loosing us our cowboy dictator image. And thank goodness.

Or are you implying McCain really would have bombed Iran and made Iraq most peaceful simply by creating a new war zone?

Maybe most are not really. The article does not say the woman turned him in. Usually I hear they were caught by someone else. How most women feel about it is hard to tell. I don't think anyone asked them. And some women seem to care only because they are "supposed to" if you know what I mean. It certainly does explain the insistence on dressing skimpily despite this happening so much.

Wearing those short skirts, its almost like they want men to forget! Respect is earned, not given. Its a two way street. Yes, men need to maintain self control. But women should not flaunt what some men cannot seem to see without a properly angled camera because for some men, its all they are likely to get.

chotto it might not have been a stalker. I could have been random or it might have been someone who just met her. To be called a stalker requires a period of stalking.

What we clearly have is a murderer and an arsonist, two things for the rest of us to be infinitely more worried about.

Have they ever relaxed security? Well that would be pretty stupid. Its not like the car bombings and IED explosions ever really stopped.

Course it should be all picket fences and harmony in a matter of weeks, just like some have been telling us for years!

If the police catch other police for this, they and the whole country get damned. If the police don't catch other police for this, they and the whole country get damned.

Is it too much ask that you set some clearly defined goals, ascertain if they are even possible, acknowledge the bumps that are going to happen on the way, and give credit where credit is due? Is this too hard?

This crime is not going to disappear for being illegal and having campaigns. Murder has not disappeared either. But its hardly the fault of the Japanese police. A campaign is about all they can do given the state of affairs: trains packed like sardine cans, women insisting on wearing mini-skirts and men feeling like mice looking at a hunk of cheese in a trap. Eliminating any one of those variables would work wonders, but how? A clear plexiglass floor on the trains so a cop can patrol underneath?

Maybe its all true. Maybe we should get Mulder and Scully on the case. Remember the episode where the plane got frozen mid-air while aliens boarded and the only survivor could not remember anything? Well, that plane crashed but...maybe they learned from their mistakes but made a new one? guffaw

PepinGalarga-what about the other people that produced the show? the other men? Since Saudi is a mysoginistic society, i'm sure the men will get away scot free. Only the obvious ones were caught.

4 men were snared and only one woman. Only the woman is accused of producing the show. I would not discount the possibilites that it can take only one to produce a show, that others are now being investigated, or that this article has intentionally or accidently left the other out.

Anyway, we have 1,900 lashes being given to men, and only 60 to women. If that is the score it looks like Saudi is very unfairly partial to women. But what good is it rationalizing with most people? They all want their pariah. I would not doubt the Saudis call us mysogynists because some of our women have to work for living!

Nobody viewed women as weak sex objects until Hollywood came along. Before Hollywood women were respected among men same as men. (The sarcasm is so thick you could cut it with a knife!)

It just might be that women are viewed as weak sex objects because they are usually weaker than men physically, they are usually desperate for certain things like companionship, marriage and children, and because the object containing them, their bodies, are highly attactive to men sexually.

But I would not want to deny Hollywood and Nicole their delusions of grandeur.

from the article: to face justice in California for having sex with a 13-year-old girl.

No. To face justice for an unlawful sexual intercourse charge. He was indicted for drugging and raping her, not just having sex with her, so putting it that way is wrong. By way of a plea bargain he was found guilty of the lesser charges, but in no way does that translate to he "just had sex with a minor". He was not found "not guilty" of the other charges. They were just dropped and not proven. And don't say "innocent until proven guilty". This is not a court of law. Look at the evidence. He is guilty all right.

And yet the man could not just serve out his leftover time of a month and a half? What is it with this raping midget? Why does anyone have any sympathy for him?

From the article: Galli also addressed the nagging question of why authorities decided to go after Polanski now, even though he has been a frequent visitor to Switzerland.

No. The nagging question is why so many other countries never detained this teen anal raping fugitive from justice. It took the Swiss long enough, but at least they finally nabbed him! Everyone else did nothing.

This maggot Polanski and the quote above which shows a misunderstanding of his case make me so angry I made an account just to reply.

Polansky got a plea bargain where he just pleaded guilty to unlawful sex with a minor. If that were all there was to it, I would let it go.

Unfortunately, it does seem he is guilty of drugging then anally raping a 13 year old against her verbal protests. No doubt she would have physically protested as well if not having been given a combo of alcohol and quaaludes and scared out of her wits and trapped in a room with him. After all these years, the victim has never changed her story, despite pleading for people to forget the case, she never changed a word. I can find no reason to doubt her version of events. Polanski on the other hand...

The case should be reopened, and Polanski's plea bargain forgotten. He should be tried for all the evil twisted things he did to that poor girl. Unfortunately I doubt he will live long enough to serve the sentence he deserves for his crimes. And also, I doubt they will reopen the case. He will probably get a smack on the wrist and just sentenced for the under-age sex. I can only pray that farce does not happen.
