Poor girl needs someone to talk this through with her. It also brings to mind that in the UK she'd now be arrested for attempting to kill her self. Screwed up law. Especially when all they need is some help in dealing with issues in their life.

Anyway. Thanks for the discussion. Interesting to see. Will look into his interview and see if he was out of line there.

Also if you look at the US uniform you will see a massive difference as they accepted snowboarding for the sport it is. They know the best snowboarders are the ones who really push it and they do like their "rebel" status. Just look at some of the heli jumps those guys do.

Easy US .... he would lose his some of his following from snowboard fans. Shallow I know. But some fans would diss him just like you guys are. I watch the sport for the tricks these guys can do. But the money is in the fans who do take part "to look cool". As someone else said the best people to meet on the slope are the ones who are there to enjoy the sport. However, that has nothing to do whether they are skiers or not. I go in a mixed bunch and they're the best group you can ask for. The day is nothing more than looking for thrills on the slopes ... including our award of best wipe out of the day.

hehehe to be honest yeah we do fall over at the lifts ..... but usually it's because we're stuck to our boards. Alot harder to balance that way ;)

I've not seen his press conference. If he was out of line there then yeah I'll say he's a proper "punk" as you guys like to put it. One place he should be formal is when talking to the press. My gripe was people knocking him for his clothing on the way to get a plane.

Errr not once did I say snowboarding was considered cool or rebel. I said it had it's origins with punk music. Which is did and the punk influence is still there. The best snowboarders out there still love this free style the sport has and it has also developed into free style skiing. Do your homework or read posts in future dbung. I snowboard because I love the sport and I love the way I feel during it. When doing free style I can clear my mind and only think of the moment. If I thought it was just for being cool I would have dropped it when the big boom of snowboarders happened. That time is long over. Yeah I do see some on the slopes though that are all there to look cool. You spot them easily. They are riding crappy boards with big brand names on them and wearing all one brand from top to toe. Buy each piece to suit you.

I didn't say he does know what dreads are about. To be honest I don'T care what they were for orignally. If someone likes something that doesn't harm anyone else let them do it. I'm sure if it was a funeral he would dress correctly. I'm also sure if he was given a more appropriate uniform from his country like many other boarding teams were he would have looked like he should have.

Again seriously you guys think he's trying to look like someone else. Ok then where did your style come from? You seen it right? You decided you like it and bought it. This guy likes dreads and so he has them. So what. I see Japanese people with different hair colour every day. Maybe I should insult them and say "what do you think you're trying to do by looking like white people? Nothing but punks the lot of you"

    Grow up people

Yeah sure image .... that's why I do snowboarding. That's why I buy nothing but the top brands ... oh wait I don't. I test my equipment and buy what works best. I'm more convinced you are someone who buys equipment by brand rather than by performance. Lie to yourself if you want. If snowboarders were so worried about image they wouldn't wear half the stuff they do. But then again it is you who is complaining about their "image". Two faced man. Two faced. "I don't like what you say and do. You should dress like the rest of us" I think that is all about image no? or "what image do they give about their country?" pfft seriously. Learn to accept people as they are and let them dress how they want. you don't like it ... then don't watch it.

steve .... exact same arguement and battle that upper class have been saying to snowboarders for years. This is a comment from the 90'S "vandalising picnic tables with their trousers halfway down their ankles".

Time you guys gave up and realised that this is apart of boarding and always will be. We like the style and it's here to stay.

Also look up the stats if you want about snowboarders and skiers. Snowboarders are alot fewer. Doesn't mean anything. But if you want to post something make sure it's accurate and not made up.

That depends on what you call snowboarding. The majority of the people I see on the mountains spend their day carving from top to bottom and then over again. That IS NOT snowboarding. Wouldn't call any of them snowboarders. If they are in the park doing tricks or doing some off piste I'll give them credit. Every sport has the wannabe groups that don't know the first thing about the sport. You want to stick to your version of boarding then fine. Enjoy it. I'll stick to mine and go where I want and do the tricks I want.

Then you don't get snowboarding steve. If the guy is a serious boarder and wore the stupid uniform that was picked for a boarder he would have shot himself in the foot. Alot of boarding sponsers wouldn'T be happy with someone who wore what he was given. The point of boarding is it's a casual sport. If the guy was at a press conference then sure look smart. But not for travelling to the event.

we IS dissing him because hes a punk

Love it! .... snowboarding is an alternative sport. Heck most the music that was around and used for the sport to begin with was punk. That's apart of this sport. Don't be the same. Do what you do because it's what you like to do. If you want to be like every other person take up skiing or better yet don't do winter sports.

Pffft lets face it you snowboard because the love the sport. If people start telling you how to act or dress for an event just don't go to it. Sorry guys but a great sportsperson does this for free to represent their country, yeah it's an honour to do it, but if they start complaining about how you do it stop doing it! As he said "it's just another snowboarding event". One in which he doesn't get paid.

Still can't believe he was banned for not having his shirt tucked in on his way to an event. Pfft what snowboarders like wearing suits?

ISO was mentioned as quality .... ALL DSLRs have a high ISO. Heck a basic model has the speed to do good indoor shots even action shots (especially the newer ones that have started having a full frame sensor). The lens however changes if it is a nice well focused shot or a shot with lots of issues. I've done lots of kinds of shots and have found a basic DSLR can take a wide variety of good shots if it has a good lens. If the lens is poor the photo will be .... no matter how high an ISO you have. That's why it's pointless to have a good camera and only standard lenses.

Yeah well they've almost sorted out the whole problem of high iso's not working well on digicams ..... just expect to pay for it. Especially here in Japan. I couldn't believe the price hike of buying equipment here. It's cheaper to buy the exact same lenses in the UK (with the Made in Japan) still on them before someone comments on they are often made outside Japan. Only their sub-lenses are let out of Japan. The best ones are all made here. I need to save another 200 000 yen to get a camera upgrade. I'm more of a landscape photographer though. Would still like a chance to do shots like this once in awhile.
