Sweaty Aso should try the cool biz look. Every evening we are treated to the sight of his profusely perspiring persona on the news, making him appear even more oily and untrustworthy than he is.

The Friteuse Sans Huile mentioned by Cos looks great. As a student, a big greasy patch formed on the ceiling above our deep fat fryer, which has dissuaded me from getting another one. What are the chances of finding it here?

Do they come with a health warning? Is this another cunning ruse by JT to get the kids hooked on fags?

Although it has been demonstrated that many British politicians are money-grasping crooks, just like their Japanese counterparts, the big difference is that the British thieves won't be re-elected. In Japan the voters re-elect known criminals, like that guy in Hokkaido (whose name I have forgotten) who was caught taking bribes, and numerous others.

If you knowingly elect thieves, and continue to do so, don't be surprised to find your country bankrupt some years later.

Brown simply isn't up to the job. He's happy to waste billions of pounds on his social engineering schemes, running up huge debts for future taxpayers to repay.

His character is such that he is unable to accept any blame or any responsibility for the mess the country is in. I had thought that maybe with all the resignations from his cabinet he might finally get the message, but I'm afraid that if he isn't gone within the next week then he will carry on for another year, until the Labour party are wiped out in the election and the country is bankrupt.

I still can't understand why purchasing a huge TV gets you more "eco-points" than purchasing a smaller one which used much less electricity.

Why not get rid of the car(s) if driving is such a hassle? You can spend the money saved on holidays elsewhere.

I don't take attendance for my classes, but I find that the students you rarely see and those who only show up for exams tend to get very low scores and fail. The good students show up for all the classes, even if they are already familiar with the subject.

What is "flat rate" about these plans? As far as I can see the bill increases with the amount of data you send, so it's not flat rate. Only the minimum monthly fee has been reduced, the maximum fee is unchanged.

    Oh deer.

It doesn't look anything like a deer, more like a malnourished polar bear. They should just show a picture of Hatoyama in the corner of the screen on the analogue channels the whole time, that would soon get people to switch over.

These people hate the west and they hate non-muslims, so why not send them to a middle-eastern country where they will be able to repress women and persecute non-muslims to their hearts desire?

What you can do with Jetstar is to buy the outward and return tickets separately, avoiding the surcharge on the Australia to Japan flight. Select "Australia" as your location to do this. But you still get directed to a Japanese page when buying the ticket from Japan to Australia.

It's not kidnapping at all: the US has every right to put this guy on trial for piracy, extortion, hostage taking etc. He should think himself lucky he wasn't shot like his mates. Besides, a lifetime in a US jail is better than a life in the cesspit that is Somalia.

How about bombing and sinking all the ships and boats in ports used by pirates? If the pirates move to another port, sink all the ships in that port too.

I wouldn't class begging as a virtue: it is scrounging off of the labour of others. Somebody has to produce the food we eat, and why should they give it away to those who choose to do nothing?

That said, I also find excessive consumption rather distasteful. Why do people borrow money to buy unnecessary tat? The key to happiness is, as Mr Micawber pointed out, to live within your means.

For Japanese men, a week is seen as a long holiday. Here we have a 41 year old man taking a whole month to travel around India. How many middle-aged Japanese men do you know who have done that?

Even our students, who have a free month between finishing their exams and starting work, rarely go anywhere or do anything with the longest amount of free time they will have until retirement.

The customs guy was right to be suspicious.

Australia to Japan is pretty cheap and there doesn't seem to be a fuel surcharge if you book on the Australian web site.
