For Japanese men, a week is seen as a long holiday. Here we have a 41 year old man taking a whole month to travel around India. How many middle-aged Japanese men do you know who have done that?
Even our students, who have a free month between finishing their exams and starting work, rarely go anywhere or do anything with the longest amount of free time they will have until retirement.
The customs guy was right to be suspicious.

Australia to Japan is pretty cheap and there doesn't seem to be a fuel surcharge if you book on the Australian web site.

Given the atrocious rubbish turned out at vast expense by the previous, nationalised British car industry, I'd say that nationalisation is the last thing that's needed.

That PC in the picture sells for Y50000, so Y5544 for a bit of film to stick on the screen seems a bit much. Instead, why not get a sheet and use it to make a kind of tent, covering your head, upper body and the computer? This has the added advantage of preventing people behind you from seeing what you are up to.

I doubt there would be any savings from a stupid measure like this. Sales of their over-priced drinks would fall and I'm sure some people would urinate over the floor/seats/door rather than pay. Result: lower revenue, increased cleaning costs. If you treat people like animals, don't be surprised if they start to behave like them.
Mr O'Leary won't be so smug when his planes are grounded due to urine-induced corrosion of the airframes.

You may as well accept the money since you will have to pay it back (with interest) through higher taxes in the future.

If you have a Japanese passport then you are Japanese. The passport doesn't say "Half-Japanese" and you don't have half a vote, therefore you are not a "half".
Instead of answering intrusive questions, maybe you could ask these ignorant people when their family moved over from Korea. Or just ignore them.

Tamaki said "he would take care of Ishihara forever".
That sounds ominous. I wonder how long it will be before he starts dishing out the beats again.

There was a lady on NHK the other week who did something similar: she ordered some stuff on the internet and injected it into her face, with hideous results.
The Daily Telegraph article mentioned above says that the Korean lady had most of her cosmetic surgery in Japan, not Korea. The article should be warning about Japanese cosmetic surgeons too.
The vast majority of cosmetic surgery is unnecessary. Those who judge a person solely on their looks are only worthy of contempt. Be happy with who you are and shun those who would have you be otherwise.

NHK news seemed to be obsessed with this boy, hyping him up for days before the tournament began. During the tournament they seemed to focus almost exclusively on the boy: even though other Japanese golfers were doing better, they hardly got a mention.
I wish I knew how NHK decided on what to put in their sports bulletins. If it's rugby, Waseda university always get lots of screen time, the national team gets none at all. Ladies golf items always show that pretty girl from Okinawa and not the less pretty one who often does better. And let's not forget the Aomori ladies curling team: even if only one man and a dog are at the rink watching a practice session, the event is somehow deemed worthy of broadcast on the national news.

"At Fujitsu’s computer chip unit, the shifts at the 24-hour-running plants were increased from two shifts of 12 hours each to three 8-hour shifts so each worker had their hours and pay reduced by a third."
How does this save money? You work 1/3 less and get paid 1/3 less, but the plant is still running 24 hours per day so the total wage bill is the same.
"Another obstacle was that wives of male employees complained that they didn’t want their spouses at home"
Such wives should be told to go out and find a job to make up for their husbands lost earnings. Or why not move out, get a job and live by yourself if you can't stand your husband?

Anyone who has a clue will know that there are indeed some promising solar power technologies: not based on photovoltaic cells, but using reflectors to concentrate sunlight and boil water. Spain has built some fairly large experimental generators: they are cheap and efficient. Such devices would be ideal for hot, sunny countries.

I wonder how secure the "proprietary randomization algorithm" is? Probably not very good, or there would be no need to keep it secret.
If you are paranoid, you can use TrueCrypt to encrypt your data. It costs nothing and uses tried and tested encryption algorithms.

kokuryu: to argue that 65% of the employable adult population is out of work is clearly wrong.
According to the bureau of labour statistics, there were 142 million people in work in January 2009. This is almost half of the entire US population (300 million). This means that 52.7% of the total population are not in employment. This is already lower than your made-up figure of 65%.
Now, about 120 million of the population are below 21, or over 65 (from US demographic data). Around 100 million of those are babies, in education, or retired. Therefore, the potential labour pool is only 200 million people. If 142 million of those are in work, only 58 million, or 29%, are not working, and not all of that 29% will want, or need a job.
Whilst I agree that the employment situation is bad and getting worse, pulling numbers out of thin air to try and prove a point isn't helpful.
