This is a strange "article". There are several incoherent sentences and unverifiable "facts". For example:

What does "they haven’t been nationalized yet by less obvious magic" mean?

    The word "data" is plural.

Who is "the hopelessly outclassed premier, Taro Aso", outclassed by?

"the U.S. unemployment rate is probably around 20% already, if one reads shadowstatistics.com": I looked at that site and it doesn't seem to contain any useful information whatsoever, and certainly nothing about a 20% unemployment rate. Please give a link to the page which shows this information.

"Look at the U.S., or any OECD nation, health and disease levels are all showing worsening trends. I rest my case.": How do you explain increasing longevity in the US and OECD nations then?

    Very poor. D-.

For those who don't want windows, I wonder if the stores will refund the windows license fee that you are obliged to pay when you buy most new PCs, whether you want windows or not?

Chavez didn't respect the results of the last referendum, so maybe he is the "sore loser"?

With the lower price of oil, the Venezuelan economy will soon go down the pan, hence the need to get another referendum in before things go pear-shaped.

Free speech has not been possible in the UK for a number of years.

Contrary to Mr Milliband's lies, Mr Wilders is not himself spreading "hatred and violent messages": his film "Fitna" is merely a collection of statements made by our Muslim friends.

Meanwhile, the pathetic British government is happy to play host to those who would destroy democracy, crush individual liberties and who openly call for death to those who do not believe in their superstitious nonsense.

Since Japan consists of many islands, according to the government's logic it would also make sense to ban travel between islands during a flu outbreak. Will that happen? Or will they limit the measures to keeping out disease-ridden foreigners?

There's no need to have diplomatic, trade or any other kind of relationship with North Korea. Just ignore them and have absolutely more nothing to do with their childish threats and bombastic bluster. Let China sort them out. It's a pity if the North Koreans are starving to death, but that's entirely the fault of their despot leader. There's no tree bark and grass in his diet.

    Just like Toyoko Inn then.

movieguy: Nearly all of the US hotels I have stayed in charged ~$15 per day for internet access. The home page may say "internet access in all rooms", but unless it explicitly states that it's free, it won't be.

The authorities are usually a little more crafty in harassing the homeless. For example, they will install a metal divider in the middle of the bench to prevent people lying down, fence off areas under bridges etc.

The Sumo Association are awfully quick to slag off Asa. They weren't in much of a hurry when sumo wrestlers were beating a young lad to death with bottles and bats. Maybe that's the kind of etiquette they favour?

BA is now much cheaper than the other three airlines which fly direct to London. At the moment ANA is quoting Y150000 for flights leaving at the end of March. JAL and Virgin were similar last time I checked.

The surcharge is gradually going down, but airlines such as JAL and ANA are increasing their base fares to compensate.

Basing personality on blood type is even more ridiculous than basing it on star signs.

I'm A+, which I found out at the blood donor centre. Unfortunately, Japan refuses to accept my blood in case I have the human form of BSE. It's their loss.

I've heard that at some companies there have been times when the bonus could only be used to buy that company's products. If the company only makes a limited range of goods it may be difficult to find anything you want to buy. I have a Fujitsu computer, but nothing else made by them.

In any case, I doubt that Fujitsu's 100000 employees would make much difference to total sales in a market of 120000000 people.

The music companies are too greedy and too willing to exploit licensing laws to prevent people from buying from cheaper markets.

For example, you can buy tracks on-line in China (legally) for RMB 1 per track. The same tracks are sold for ten times the price in Japan. The large companies that constantly tell us how globalisation is good do everything in their power to prevent consumer choice.

In such cases, my choice is to buy nothing from such companies.

If both the US and Japan try to devalue their currencies by printing money, the Dollar-Yen exchange rate may not change much.

Japanese government debt is in Yen. If they try to inflate the debt away they may find that the budget deficit increases, as wages and tax revenue stagnate whilst bond interest rates increase.

Japan needs economic growth to pay down its debts, but with an ageing, shrinking population it's not going to happen. Sooner or later we will be faced with large tax increases and spending cuts. What happened in Yubari will be repeated nationwide.
