Isn't it strange how when Toyota made record profits they refused to increase wages, yet after only a few months of poor results they are clamouring to slash salaries?
I'm sure the unions will roll-over and take it, as usual.

If Japan is so concerned about the safety of its whalers it should confine them to waters around Japan. The bumbling fools have already lost two lives in the Antarctic due to their own incompetence.

Guantanamo was the US's idea, the prisoners were illegally abducted by the US, so why doesn't the US take all of the prisoners?

The executives don't have much hope for a domestic recovery then? If they rely solely on exports, won't that drive the Yen even higher?

What a waste of a life. This is what happens when you carry out "traditional" whaling half way around the world. The whaling ships should stick to Japanese coastal waters, where the chance of being rescued is much higher.

In the cities there is no reason to own a car when cycling is faster, cheaper, better for the environment and healthier.
Most people who have alternative means of getting to work would probably be much better off renting a car if they ever needed one. I won't be losing any sleep over the likes of Toyota losing money, since they help destroy the environment and treat their workers like dirt.

Mr Taha said “It is our right as an occupied people to defend ourselves from the occupation by all means possible including suicide attacks”. I'll bet a large sum of money that Mr Taha won't be one of those blowing themselves up, he will leave that to brainwashed losers.
Lead by example, Mr Taha, or shut up.

Zimbabweans have tried to vote Mugabe out several times, but he refuses to go. Every day he remains in power the tragedy continues: poverty, starvation and disease in what was once a relatively prosperous country.

Copyright is being abused by large, greedy corporations: it's time the period of copyright was restricted to 10 years, instead of the 70 - 100 years it is now. The penalties for infringing copyright should be limited to the value of the work, determined by the minimum price the work is sold for anywhere in the world. For example, if a company sells CD's for $30 in Japan and $3 in China, the value of the content must be $3, less the cost of materials, shipping etc, so probably $1 or so should cover it. If you want Y200 for a single, DRM restricted, low bit-rate track from iTunes you aren't going to get it, at least not from me.
It's hard to see how "downloading for personal use" can be made illegal, whilst streaming content isn't. Suppose you buffer the entire stream before viewing it? Will that be illegal? The buffoons that make the laws in this country obviously haven't thought things through and are doubtless receiving bribes from the media corporations.
And isn't there a levy on blank media to compensate for copying? If copying is made illegal the levy should be removed.
In the long run, the corporations have no chance of making money by criminalising much of the population. They should cut spending on hype and marketing gimmicks, cut prices and innovate, instead of legislate.

It's a slippery slope from a government allowing assisted suicide to a government insisting on it as a way of reducing the burden of caring for the elderly.
What about pressure from avaricious relatives, eager to get their hands on the inheritance before it disappears in medical fees? What is presented as "choice" becomes compulsion and in such cases it is better to have no choice. Palliative care can be used to deal with pain and suffering towards the end of one's life. We should expect better than being put down like dogs in the 21st century.

The Japanese threats sound like a lot of nonsense to me. Gangsters and fascists seem to be able to go around forcibly obstructing business with impunity, why aren't they being arrested?
Furthermore, if "research" can be defined as business, why don't we get a group together and go on a trip to research the area around Aso's house? As we saw a few weeks ago, the police will forcibly obstruct such research and will therefore be breaking the law.

So the "People’s Alliance for Democracy" have proposed "discarding direct elections of lawmakers in favour of appointing most legislators".
Not very democratic is it? Yet the government stands by and lets them bus more people into the airport. If they prevented people, food and water from getting to the airport the siege would be over by now.

Actually, if the whale meat is on the market it should be labelled as a product of Iceland, although it probably won't be. Has anybody seen any in the shops?

I wonder why the government is reluctant to say what type of whale meat has been imported? Could it be that it is a type that is high in toxins and heavy metals? Surely the goverment wouldn't import dodgy whale meat on the sly right after spending so much time slagging off China for exporting toxic food?
