I didn't think Japanese needed visas to visit China, so tighter visa regulations can't account for the 45% drop in Japanese visitors.
However, average room rates of hundreds of dollars per night and relatively expensive air fares may have something to do with it. Why pay a fortune to visit a polluted dump run by an unelected dictatorship when you could be relaxing on a beach in Thailand for a fraction of the price?

These airlines should have a total weight allowance: weigh the passenger and their luggage. The lard buckets would have to pay more, but that might encourage them to improve their diets, thus benefitting their health.

So what are the mercury and dioxin levels in the meat? Will the government publish the data? After all, the presence of a single bone in imported US beef is enough to induce mass hysteria, yet whale meat is imported on the sly with no apparent checks whatsoever.

What analysts said this? If airlines have any sense they hedge their fuel costs in advance, this is why surcharges lag actual fuel prices.
