Noda has lost all credibility since his decision to go ahead with the Yanba dam. The DPJ declared that it is a waste of money, yet they carry on regardless. At the same time they want to raise my taxes and cut my salary, but for what? So they can throw the money away on more unnecessary constructions? I wonder if it's possible to be any more useless. I suppose we'll have to wait until the LDP get back in to find out.

"Deplorable", "disgusting", "inhuman" behaviour say the two-faced politicians, yet they are the ones responsible for deploying the troops. I think the Taliban should only be killed by lethal injection from now on as being shot to death is inhumane too.

We know that crooked Kikukawa has been hiding his assets since he left Olympus and I expect other former board members have been doing the same. I suppose these lying scoundrels will all claim to be penniless (like the politicians) and Olympus will get nothing much out of them in the end.

There used to be an American Airlines flight from Narita to San Jose. If you don't rent a car it's a pain to get from San Francisco to San Jose, especially on weekends.
My question about fuel surcharges remains unanswered: the alleged rationale behind the fuel surcharge is to offset the increased cost of fuel. The surcharge on longer flights is more because more fuel is used. If the "dreamliner" uses 20% less fuel the surcharge should be reduced accordingly. If it isn't, ANA should explain why.

If the 787 is 20% more fuel efficient will ANA reduce the fuel surcharge for those flights? Of course they won't, demonstrating what a scam it is.

How does that work? If Kikukawa gave the properties away the relative should have to pay gift tax. If he sold them he must still have the money.

Canada was nowhere near meeting its treaty obligations. I expect Japan will pull out soon as they won't make the grade either.

Japan needs to establish a presence on the Senkaku islands, maybe a coastguard station or something. If they don't China will move in sooner or later. Use it or lose it Japan.

I wonder if the TEPCO president would mind if I went and dumped some stuff on his garden, after all the flat is getting quite full and I need to free up some space.

Clegg is disappointed the UK didn't accept a new EU treaty. His coalition has determined that any new treaty will be put to a referendum whereupon it will surely be rejected. So, unless Clegg was hoping to sign up to a treaty without having a referendum, it's surely better for the UK to stay out of the thing from the start?
I suspect that despite paying lip service to the idea of having a referendum Clegg will do everything possible to prevent the people from having their say. This is the usual way of things in the EU.
Anyway, who cares if the UK is isolated? I very much doubt that all 26 other countries will sign up to this vague pact proposed by France and Germany. Whilst they waste their time drawing that up they are doing nothing to stabilise the Euro.

The temporary housing isn't full as much of it was built in inconvenient locations where people don't want to live.
I hardly see any homeless people around Sendai and certainly none sleeping on the streets. There used to be a couple of cardboard and tarpaulin constructions in the park, but they seem to have gone.

It will be fun to watch countries fiddle their budgets so as to meet new arbitrary requirements. How surprised everyone will be in a few years when, despite having supposedly "balanced" their budgets, some countries will suddenly become insolvent.
I do wonder if Cameron might not have been better off agreeing to a treaty change and having it rejected in a referendum. I'd like to see the EU try their "vote again" tactics on the UK whereupon they would receive a more decisive "no" than the first time.

David,
People in Ayukawa have a chance to make a new start. I had a friend living there before the earthquake. Since his job disappeared (not whaling related) he has taken his family to Himeji where he has found a new job in a different field. For those who wish to stay in the area why not think about doing something else? How narrow minded must a person be to insist that everything should be exactly as it was before. Why doesn't the government try to expand the range of employment opportunities in the region instead of trying to recreate a dying business with no future (whaling). They may as well spend the money building a slide-rule factory for all the good it will do.

Since the whaling towns have been destroyed maybe a better use of this money would be to use it to rebuild the towns with a focus on providing jobs in new industries or services, rather than wasting it on recreating an outdated, backwards practice.
Alas, the Japanese government is stuck in the past and continues frittering away the budget on basket-cases. Just don't expect me to help repay your debts Japan. My money is overseas and out of your reach.

Get a can of gold spray paint and do the job yourself. When you think of the engineering and technology required to make e.g. a $20 USB memory stick (billion dollar manufacturing facilities) it seems absurd that a metal rod (golf club) can be sold for thousands of dollars.

So they found a pool of 45 tons of water and they "believe" that only 150 litres of that went into the sea.
I believe a lot more has gone into the sea and Tepco are lying (as usual).
