Judging from the pics one might think that the Motor Show is trying to save electricity by not heating the halls, because most of the girls are fully clothed! What is their purpose then?

Why not call the bit "Tsukuba Olympics" as it is in between and than host some events there, some in Tokyo, some in Tohoku..!(Insert sarcastic laugh here)

As for the big one hitting Tokyo, I think most of the bigger buildings will have no major damage. The bigger problem might be all the people, as seen on a smaller scale on 3/11!.

The newest cheapskate style to get out of town is to hit the road at night to beat the traffic and than sleep in the car, there are even books about it! Guess when you are used to sleep on a mattress 2 cm thick on the floor, reclined car seats feel actually comfortable to these persons.

I already started to think I could buy cheap Chinese-made solar panels for our soon-to-be-build house, but the time frame...another 4 years until something will happen, and that is without any obstacles coming up!

No mention of the famous Imperial Hotel? Built by Frank Lloyd Wright, it was one of the few buildings that survived the Earthquake, only to be teared down later to make space for a bigger hotel. Part of it was rebuilt in "Meiji Mura" a very interesting museum village near Nagoya.

Have to second Alex, most of the runners had shirts with their respective company's name on it, so for JT to just post a pic with a fictional "description", looks very unprofessional.

Yes, BN is overpriced, but it's not that the winegrowers would get rich with it: To arrive in Japan in time, all the wine is actually flown in by airplane, hence the aformentioned plastic bottles, to save on weight and thus bring down the sales price, I think Jusco did it last year. As for the "hype", I think most of the negative remarks should go to those bottles selling for more than 10.000 yen! Just because it got a famous owner or excellent reviews many years ago, doesn't mean anything plus with today's understanding of what's happening during fermentation and the help of modern technology to influence this, it is possible to make wine much cheaper and still tastes great.

At least he's doing it with the royal family. If he did it with any politician, he would earn a lot of frequent flyer miles with those twice-yearly trips...

Another reason not to get up too early...but seriously, I would love to go hiking in the mountain forests this time of the year to view the autumn foliage, but those bears do make me afraid, esp since I would have our 11 kg baby girl on the back.

Maybe the Chef had taken his knifes to a friend to sharpen them properly...lol. But actually, most of chefs have a proper case, but that can be quite bulky for to carry only one or two knifes.

K-cars were not produced to be fuel-efficient, only cheap to built and thus affordable to buy. Those first wave really were "coffins on wheels" because they sacrificed safety to save material and production-cost. Today's k-cars sell because of the cheap taxes and the shaken, which is the major point esp when the car gets older. They have airbags and 4-wheel drive and turbo to get more from the under-sized engine. All this makes them heavier and thus they will use as much gasoline as a normal car. But because the shaken doesn't change to yearly one after 10(?)years as with other cars, they will be driven much longer. And that will reduce the carbon foot print. I drive a Daihatsu Terios Kid; it got the same wheel-size as a normal compact car and is perfect for the small back roads on the country side. But, it is small, the engine totally sucks in low range (starting from 0, backing up) because the car weights about 900 kg, and when we hit the highway and drive more than 90 km/h, the mileage goes down to about 9 km per liter, because of the 4-gear automatic transmission. Having said that, for day-to-day live it is totally enough, good to drive in winter as well and more room than the Jimmy or Pajero-Mini; and when visiting the in-laws, just take your time on the highway.
