So what? They are separate issues and the yet-to-be-established (as opposed to naked) imperial ambition of Iran has nothing to do with the much broader objection to the existence of Israel.

Considering that Israel is a particular piece of land, what is laughable would be the claim that hatred of Israel has nothing to do with that.

sailwind,
If you will check you will find that neither JoeBigs nor SezWho2 said what you claim. I think that puts you rather squarely into one of three camps--illiterate, careless or diversionistic. Shall we sign you up for the last of these three?
Letterman's joke was tasteless, as are many of his jokes. Nowhere did he say that Palin's daughter was "raped" (as neither did Palin when announcing the pregnancy of her daughter) and your use of that word is intentionally inflammatory. The term Letterman used was "knocked up". Clearly, the audience got a chuckle because not even a "LAUGH" card will override moral outrage.

I don't think an apology is necessary. Palin made her family an issue. When she did that, she made them fair game for tasteless jokes.
If we had wanted to have good taste, we wouldn't have stopped being British.

Tasteless? Maybe. We like tasteless jokes--except when we don't.

How so? Declarations are not demonstrations.
That would be what you are chasing, now "the chase". However, you are right about the second part and I would submit that if you do believe in the American system, you are entertaining foolishness. Belief in any system is a path to error.
"Deviousness"? Examples, please. I do not doubt the validity of our Constitution. However, I do not think that we have applied it and the laws promulgated pursuant to it in the spirit of the document which I quoted. And it is true that I do not think our rebellion was necessary. The colonists were hardly deprived to the extent that they could not have sought redress in other ways.
It seems to me that I have been rather straightforward in expressing my opinions. It seems to me that your complaint is that you don't like them. And now you seek to divert from the nonsense of your claim that the financial situation was created by the Reid-Pelosi Congress by accusing me of anti-Americanism. Now that is a diversion.

Well, if we want to go back to first causes, we might look to the proposition that "all men are created equal". And the corollary is, "how can I be equal if I don't have a house?"
You tell people they're equal and if enough people believe it and if you have a democracy, you get egalitarian measures. Of course, when wedded to republican principles, there will always be assurances that those whose robes are trimmed in purple will continue to profit.
Not Bush's fault. Not Pelosi and Reid's.

I don't think this was a Bush depression. I think he made some errors, such as encouraging the continued use of consumer credit while going further into hock for the war on terror, but I don't think these seriously fueled the fire. He certainly doesn't seem to have done much to forestall the problem, however.
I think Obama definitely has a tiger by the tail with this problem. I'm not sure that he's got a place to cage it. Some problems are not solvable.
Some diseases just have to run their course. If this is such a disease, I think people are right to criticize Obama's commitment to pay for expensive medications. They are certainly right to question whether he has made the right diagnosis.

We can only assume you were singing the same tune when the previous administration touted how many jobs it had created.
Sometimes government needs to get out of the way. Sometimes it needs to intervene. The trick is knowing when and how much. Considering that getting out of the way really didn't seem to be working, the "when" would be now, I think. As for the "how much", the answers seem to range from "as little as possible" to "much more".

And I guess it is different and the difference is this: Mafia members are doing something illegal but there is insufficient evidence to convict. Tiller was doing something legal and conviction was unnecessary.
Obviously, in Tiller's church, God had not personally spoken to the church members and told them that under no circumstances shall late-term abortion be allowed.

It was fun growing up and learning about the US. I can remember as a grade school child, the Scholastic magazines and the My Weekly Readers. At some point every year we were treated to an issue setting forth why it was necessary for us to claim independence.
Occasionally these issue would be peppered with illustrations of the evil of kings. I remember in particular one very graphic picture of a torture chamber and a man on the rack. The accompanying text explained that kings could seize and torture anyone.
As children we agreed that this was a bad thing. Did something happen? Evil for kings, evil for presidents and their growling veeps.

If we're going to be ungrammatical, we might as well be authentic. I believe the expression is, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"
But that's the problem, ain't it? It is "broke".

What better place to found a new and unnecessary nation! Think I'll build mine where I'm surrounded by hostiles, too. Maybe even take a huge chunk of their land and see what happens. I hope that won't force me to become an extremist.

WilliB,
Actually no. American leaders typically do not bow to foreign monarchs because we're Americans, dadgummit! And it is perceived as a sign of weakness.
It is not a weakness. It is a courtesy. Bowing is an age-old show of respect even among peers, but we don't bow to anyone, dadgummit!

Riiiiiiiight. He should have looked bilious and then come home and immediately put them on the list of the Axis of Evil. Bowing to the King is a courtesy as is showing a willingness to listen to what people have to say. When first you take offense then you stop listening.

Helter_Skelter,
I guess you are trying to say that Obama is installing the failed policies of socialism. And you seem to have some kind of logical argument going that if people are hoping for a failed socialism, then there hopes are realized in Obama. You, however, have failed to show that Obama is installing such policies and you seem to have neglected whether or not he curing the failed policies of capitalism. That would be an argument for another day.
More tellingly, however, you have not refuted the statement. A hypothetical tautology is not a substitute for an argument.

teleprompter,
Not looking to have it both ways. I don't agree with what Obama is doing, but he is doing it--at least initially--in a way that restores trust in America and America's values. My excerpted passage clearly applies to people around the world.
Yes, many millions of people--especially the very poor and the very rich--flock to America. That is nothing compared to the billions of people who do not. The poor come for the money and the rich come for the tax preferences. They also come, from third-world countries, for the general atmosphere of freedom. They come despite the wretched rhetoric of the previous administration. They came before Bush, during Bush and after Bush. Their coming has little to do with whether or not confidence in America is being restored.
