    The fuss about Gauntanamo is this: either human rights are sometimes relative or they are never are. With Guantanamo and elsewhere, the US has taken the position that they are sometimes relative. We do not now get to pretend otherwise.

    No one has ever enjoyed complete freedom of speech anywhere. If you limit this to freedom to criticize the government, there is significantly less freedom in China than in the US. China is not 0%. The US is not 100%.

Yet, even during the Reagan years the country was still grumbling about "tax-and-spend" Democrats, so the perception was that Republicans were financially responsible.
