It's totally inappropriate to even have thought about such a re-enactment. Period. Good thing somebody has the sense to stop it.

If you accuse somebody of doing something bad but can't produce evidence to support your accusation, what do you call that if it is NOT "smearing"?!

Japan make the accusation to the world that China had locked fire control radar on its ship. Now it only has to show its "evidence" to the US, its ally and strategic defense partner (which I somehow think is not that hard to convince) to prove that it actually happened? Seriously?
if, as Fadamor has pointed out,
why don't they just show that data to the world?!

Apparently not in the near, or distant future, or in all likelihood--never!
See the news on Japan Daily Press: Defense minister retreats from plans of releasing data on China’s radar lock http://japandailypress.com/defense-minister-retreats-from-plans-of-releasing-data-on-chinas-radar-lock-1223135

Elon Musk says that the lithium-ion batteries used on Boeing's 787 are inherently unsafe, due to its design. "Large cells without enough space between them to isolate against the cell-to-cell thermal domino effect means it is simply a matter of time before there are more incidents of this nature," he adds.
Both Boeing and Tesla (the electric car company by Musk) use batteries fueled by lithium cobalt oxide, which is among the most energy-dense and flammable chemistries of lithium-ion batteries on the market. While Boeing elected to use a battery with a grouping of eight large cells, Tesla's batteries contain thousands of smaller cells that are independently separated to prevent fire in a single cell from harming the surrounding ones.
"They [Boeing] believe they have this under control, although I think there is a fundamental safety issue with the architecture of a pack with large cells," writes Musk in an email. "It is much harder to maintain an even temperature in a large cell, as the distance from the center of the cell to the edge is much greater, which increases the risk of thermal runaway."

I will wait until the dust of confirming Kerry (SoS), Hagel (DS), etc, into Obama's new cabinet has settled before I make this "tough tone on China" a policy for his second term.

I got to agree with that. Everyone knows Beyonce CAN sing. It was just that the cold weather would make it hard. So why risks it? What would those naysayers say if she cracked her voice a little due to the weather? Would people rather something like that happened in such a historical event?

This kind of gun-loving, violent-prone culture is reflected in US' foreign policy. Just look at what it has done over the last 30 years!

English is an international language--that's a simple fact. The choice of the language for instruction does not have to be in conflict with its intended teaching of "asian way of thinking".

This is so true. If only the general population of both China and Japan, and especially its politicians (those who actually weld the power of its day-to-day policies) can see.

To those who say that China won't do anything under similar situation, the following story was posted here a few weeks ago--maybe it's an indication of what human heart is capable of rather than not:
"Lost Japanese tourist spends a month sleeping in Chinese train station".

Any guess as to which side (US or Japan) made the decision to cancel the drill? The article was worded to make people believe that it's the Noda's office who made the decision. Is that the actual case? Somehow I have the feeling that it could be the US that actually wanted to cancel it. So far the fiasco involving the island purchase has already achieved the desired effect as far as the US interest is concerned (increased tension between Japan and China). Adding this drill to it won't change the bottom line much--US obviously does not want this to escalate into something that it REALLY has to be involved. Is my reasoning sound?
