  Society is breaking down. The same pattern is happening in all "developed" nations and even in parts of the third world. When women enter the workforce in great numbers, the old family dynamic falls apart. Lonliness, depression, dissatisfaction, emptiness, ennui: all postmodern diseases from our decaying global culture.

  Each "step forward" brings new forms of pain and new problems to contend with. Each new form of "progress" has unintended negative consequences. As a species we have no choice but to struggle "forward" as we see it at the moment, yet when we achieve our goals, we find ourselves facing a whole new set of problems. "Life is suffering," taught Guatama Buddha as the first noble truth. However we arrange the pieces, there will always be some new problem.

  Come on you sour dour old crusties...I think this is pretty neat. Feels nice to touch, looks interesting. Cool and soothing on a muggy day. How many times in your life are you going to have a chance to touch a glacier? Especially in a major metro area? Good stuff.

  Smell the roses once and a while and enjoy life a little instead of making everything gravid with sociopolitical angst.
