Cleo, you misunderstnd the dynamics of licking plates. A plate is about the size of a kitchen clock. Hold it up against your face and begin licking from the bottom. As you move up the plate will naturally move to your forehead. This has positive effects for young Brit guys because it means they have spikey hair in the morning. Also for women it leaves them with a nice sheen which will last a few days in UK's current weather. Then of course some people get the grease or oil embedded into their skin, get acne and feel youing again.

Stirfry, I have developed a similar system. After I have cooked roast spuds, chicken and buttered veges I put the plates and pans in the sink, just cover them with cold water and wait for them to congeal. Then you need to get under the sink the next morning and gently, and I really mean gently, warm the underneath of the sink with a blow torch. Overdo it and you have a mess. Just right and you can lift it out in one go. Do this early and you can throw them into the neighbours garden and then deny all knowledge. And you end up feeding stray dogs so God smiles on you. But I like the Jello idea because then you can lick the plates twice. And let us not forget many people in Africa are starving.

My wife has recently departed for a month long trip back to Japan. Since her departure I have discovered a quirk of nature. If you put the dirty dishes in the sink at night they are still there in the morning! Bloody amazing. Never happened when she was here. She comes from Kyushu where I am sure they practise some form of black magic(meet the mother in law and you will understand). So I checked out the kitchen and pulled every handle until Hey Presto! I came across a device similar to that pictured above although a lot bigger. So I put all the dishes in it and closed it up. But the funny thing was the next day not only were they still there but they were dirty! There is something she does, some little mantra or spell she invokes that cleans them and magically moves them into the cupboard. I'm working on it. So these items are useless unless you know the magic words.

Fortunately I am very good at budgets and have calculated how many meals I can have with the remaining plates - including those ones she told me never to touch - and can last until next Sunday if I use the cutlery we brought in Bangkok many years ago. After that I guess I will just have to have takeaways and buy extra fly spray.

I'm very happy my kids have two passports - almost time to abandon ship!

Well, one of those passports would not be Japanese would it? I don't think Japan allows for dual nationality.

TexasAggie :Time to see how long it takes before one of Obama's new found friends attacks us.

Has to be one of the dumbest comments I've seen for a while. So Chavez and Castro get together.

What you say Hugo that we get our armies and navies to spring a surprise attack on America?

Raul! That is fantasticio! They would never suspect and then we could overthrow capitalism!

But we need a day like 9=11 when not a single US plane was partroling.

    They still do that comrade?

They do when it suits them. And they are very scared. Go to JT and see comments from TexasAggie. They are very scared and worried.

Hugo, never forget........america always needs an enemy. Germany, Libya, Somalia, Vietnam, France, Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran.....always a new threat needed to keep the military machine going. Why not Cuba? Or Fiji?

China has been THE world power on five occassions during history. America is, like it or not, an empire in decline. No superpower lasts forever. Just 60 or so years ago Britain was a superpoer with a hand in a third of the globe. 20 years ago america and the USSR were on level pegging. China, in the next 30 years or so, will be the worlds only super power.

Read the report above. Could anyone possibly imagine the previous president formulating anythin like a plan like this? Bloody hell, it is so good for the rest of the world to have a working brain in americas top job.

In my view Japan remains a safe country in comparison to the rest off the world. God knows I stumbled home enough times without problems. Jean Colmar, normally enjoy your posts but have to wonder how much credence to hang on a story that salarymen get attacked going to work. Never heard of that my friend.
    our asssailants are well away.

Advice to anyone getting mugged or lined up for robbery: Walk into the road hands up to stop the traffic. Traffic scrreches to a halt (you hope) horns blasting, people looking, your asssailants are well away. Other than that slam the palm of your hand into the base of their nose (you can even do this when drunk). Or, step back and plead like a coward and that you do not want trouble. The assailant will inevitably get cocky and spread himself wide in an aggaresive position - like an ape. Then give him the mightiest kick in the balls you can. Not many men are up for much after that. My uncle Arthur taught me that when I was about eight years old and I have to say that it has seen me out of a good few sticky situations.

I like this bit...........“Alcohol facilitates the frank exchange of opinions and views in a society where communication can be quite stilted"

Come on guys, take a couple of good tokes on top skank and see where your communication goes then. Not only will you love each other - as you do when pissed - but you start to understand each other a bit more. And boy, does it make those tunes on the Yamamto line sound good.

Not quite a Mary Jane crisis yet. But if only it could be the late train ride home would be so much......cruisier.

Somehow, the following quote seemed to sum it up for me about the people in America, and their mentality, who demand the right to bear arms (but not brains)................

Jordan and his father lived with Houk and her two small daughters in a farmhouse in the rural western Pennsylvania town of Wampum

    Wampum. Rural. Western Pennsylvania.

One can only wonder how much will actually go to those it is aimed at and how much will be siphoned of in bribes and outright corruption. But good on Japan for seeing through their pledges. Often at these talk fests following wars or disasters many promises are made and a good deal quietly forgotten.

Shame, shame, shame. Here we have a new US president who has hardly got his foot in the door and he is helping common, rank and file Americans. What is the world coming too? Experience and time has shown that if you give the rich people more and more and industry leaders multi millions in bonuses then it trickle downs and everyone gets richer. What is wrong with this man?

Why didn't he use a condom? Think back boys to when you were 12 years old. Could you really imagine bowling into Boots and saying give us a packet of those.....no, no, not those ones, the ribbed ones. Apart from the fact he would not have had two pennies too his name.

Second thing.....Come on.....it was in Eastbourne. What else is there for young people to do in God's waiting room.

Thirdly and finally for now...Have to agree with an earlier poster about generational transfer of welfare dependency. Case happened here recently whee a 17 year old boy was shot accidentaly by the police. As the media focused on the drama turns out the 17 year old boy was soon to become the father of twins. His 16 year old partner already had a 2 year old. And his mother was two weeks away from giving birth to her tenth child!

Maybe it's just me being cynical but I don't see young Alfie and Chantelle ever going much further than the local welfare office.

What's it all about Alfie? I guess you'll never know.

Uhmmmm space monkey, you seem to be getting a bit carried away with the Aussies would never cheat line. If Cahill scored a last minute winner from a clearly offside position do you think he would run to the ref and say, "Sorry cobber, I was fair dinkum offside and cannot allow you to give us that goal. It's just not the Aussie way"

President Barack Obama ordered major changes Thursday that he said would halt the torture of suspects, close down the Guantanamo detention center, ban secret CIA prisons overseas and fight terrorism “in a manner that is consistent with our values and our ideals.

Are there some americans that have a problem with this? or are there some americans that say "Torture, Yes We can"

Are there some americans that think the idea of secret prisons where people are tortured is a good thing? Are these the same americans that got panties and knickers so twisted over the Soviets doing the same?

Rednecks, zealots and others wake up! The world is changing. Violation of basic human rights is no longer tolerated. Bush is gone. incaretrating people without charge (imagagine if it was you) is no longer part of US policy. Bad thing or good thing?

America is back on the way up!

I was a regular business and tourist visitor to Thailand over the last 15 years. Under no circumstances do you insult the King. He is seen as a demi-God. Be in a wild bar in a seedy area of Thailand and at 6 PM the national athem comes on with pictures of the King and you better behave yourself. This is the way it is in Thailand. Thailand (and its earlier incarnations) is an ancient country that does not look to the west for how it should behave. Although the headlines may be about people arrested for insulting the King the country, and the people are very tolerant on of all beliefs and religions. If you want to be a Muslim or a Catholic in thailand nobody cares - in fact, they are not so interested. But you cannot badmouth the King. This is life in Thailand. Met once three English guys who had travellled into bandit country for whatever reason. They put their Baht notes in their shoes to hide them in case they got robbed. As it was for them they were stopped by a police patrol who suspected they were involved in drugs (which they may have been). They were stripped searched and the police went apeshit when they found that they were standing on the Kings image (on the notes in their shoes). They were given good beatings, relieved of their money and put on a long bus ride to Bangkok, where I met them.

So if you feel that you cannot go to Thailand without resisting the urge to criticise the King then my advice is don't go. Because noone in Thailand is going to support you. That is life in that wonderful land.

kudos to the pilot. Saw on the news tonight that he checked the plane twice that there were no more passengers before he left. And landing in a river in a city of skyscrapers. The pilot, I take my hat of to you. May my next flight be under your guidance.
