The part that cought my attention is his mother either slipped of fainted when she realized he had won AGAIN. One will never know.
Without question Michael Phelps was one of the most outstanding to represent the USA at these Summer Games. He did something that most of simply did not expect.
As I said befoe some of the good must have rubbed off him since most of the swimmers were setting faster paces then previously.

You have to wonder when Michael Phelps will stop doing the impossible. The man is amazing we all have to admit.
Still credit must go to so many other swimmers for they are also swimming faster they in the past. It is sort of like a miracle, but Michael Phelps is the leader of all of this, for is must be rubbing off from him.

I feel Badsey is 100% correct. If some one was offered the opportunity to fill in for basically the best in the world------ I am sure they would jump at the opportunity. While they might not have placed first they would have done their best & placed high enough in the event that they would be proud & possibly that will be an opportunity for them to compete or be envited to compete in other events in their own country or who knows where else?
Note that some of the swimmers to gymnastic people were asked to fill in during the last moment (though in some cases it was a matter of them taking the place of someone else & that was some months ago) & did well besides they are now more prepared to try out & possibly become a representive of their Countries next Summer Olympics.

Sorry to see such a good runner that had to give up due to injuries that acted up on them.
Also a pity that someone in the Japan Red Tape paper end failed to list a back-up. Unfortunately those doing paper work SHOULD have taken that into consideration-----one has to look at the pros & cons of any race or sport & be prepared with a sub or alternative that THAT is a MUST.
I save the above from being a Certified Amateur Wrestling Coach from mid 50s to '77.

Well that is what the sport is about is it not? There are winners & there are loosers. So the Gold Cup winners of before were beat by a Japanse team. That seems normal to me.

I really did wonder about the one to the upper right that had his/HER hair on, not realizing young women are not required to. Seems I tend to learn something new almost daily when I have dialed into JT. No kidding it is really educational to someone as ignorant as me.

Well no matter what if this was not a planned picture then it is funny to the public. As an ex-free-lance photographer I would have been proud of the picture & if it was back in those days I would have sent a 5X7" inlargment to Leica or Pentax depending upon which camera I had used & stated what lens or whatever I had used.
Yes both Leica & Pentax approved of such free-lance photographs.

Well rjd_jr your comment might be the answer, if it was true, to anyone that drives an auto tranny car when it comes to SAFETY. So many North Americans only know how to drive a car or truck with auto tranny rather then manual.
After all in basically all Automotive Driving Schools to ALL Senior High Schools they only teach one how to drive with an auto tranny & never with a manual tranny.

It is not like a clip-on hanging from my leather belt, so does not look secure or as easy to remove & I have been using the above set-up since sometime in the mid-50s as a farmer, carpenty work, to odd jobs for the town along with part owner of a m/c shop AND have yet to loose any keys.

Second degeree murder is not as strong as first degree. Fact is a good chance he will only be charged with manslaughter & then even less due to a mental probelm at the time.
I know some of the Cdn media claimed he was eating parts of the young man he butchered to death, but we all know that the media can get way off line & tend to stretch things so their paper & their colume is read.

True WilliB the passengers did next to nil in this matter. ALL they wanted was to get out alive. Mind your credit has to go to the bus driver, an unknowen truck driver, & one passenger that barred the killer out of the normal door what with a crow-bar, hammer & something else.
By the time the RCMP arrived said killer had to smash open a window & jump out, but that is when the RCMP took him down.
Amazing situation that no Cdn let alone any human wants to hear or read about as the victem was well liked, easy to get along with, & half asleep, or asleep, at the time---just another bus passenger!!!!!

As a Cdn living in Cdn. That was really a shocker I have to admit. Cdns are still shaken up over this one. We have never heard of anything as crazy as this incident.
Yes I immediately thought of the few knifing incidents, recently in Japan, but then we had a 16 year old kill a man, with a knife, in a park, not to far from my home town------so really one cannot point a finger at Japan.

Rather they learning how to pole dance in preperation for dancing at stip joints, why not learn to do good Hip Hop dancing for I am sure some regulars on JT have taken up Hip Hop dancing? Then no one would be dominating a pole & others waiting their turn.

One of the problems I see, is not only did the rider not stopping as the police demanded, but probably the young woman was not with proper protective gear & this is something I note in my area of Cdn., AND if he spills then so often the improperly pillion rider is injured. Also to a female the idea of having road rashes that will show up in future years-----that is really to much.
As for the age of the girl, then so much will depend upon the ways of the Japanese laws be he in the wrong, why at such a strange hour & so much more.

Unfortunately being a m/c rider since back in '46 I have read similiar situations. It is a pity that someone will have a pillion rider of that age & probably not with proper protective riding gear.
To try & outrun the police is a true dumb thing & can lead to dangers/injuries beyond belief.
If I hear the police behind me, when up in the roads here in the Canadianh Rockie mountains, first thing I do is hit the signal light that I am pulling over to stop & also raise my hand so they will know this to be true.
Being an older rider (though I am on some hot trotting Sportbikes) I am befuddled at the attudes of other riders in this world.

Being a bit of a novice Pen & Ink sketcher pens always fasinate me & sometime I would like to see what they have produced. To even look upon one or more to possibly be usable for Pen & Ink sketching. Mind you ink has to be black & dry quickly. For some yrs I have been using German made) drafting pens of differnet sizes.
Unfortunately normal Pen & Ink sketching with drafting pens will soon be of the past as computers are taking over & I even have trouble of obtaining black ink. Like if I am hiking up in the Cdn Rockie Mountains or similiar terrain I like to be able to do a bit of pen & ink sketcher while a lap top computer & such would not be the same.
Srange outlook on pens I must admit for yes even India Ink is almost impossible to obtain for many of the older pen nibs of back in the late 40s to into the 70s.

Honest to gosh I looked at all those different coloured tents & in that glance I had assumed it was plastic water bottle containers or such that we Cdns have to put in the Blue Bags so the joke is on me.

bandogeek, I will have to admit that you took the words right out of my mouth. I could not even dream of ever having that much money, let alone dream of a million dollars, but you can be well assured if I did, then the money would NOT be wasted on things like that.
What a waste to the rest of us humans.

It is amazing at the number of people struggling to make it to the top. Still after all of that & if they live in sight of Mt. Juji or often get to see it when visiting they will know that they made it up & down Mr. Fuji.
I know when I lived in Banff National Park I could look around from the town & know I had climbed Mt. Tunnel (a nothing as the King & Queen of England had hike up it yrs ago-----though the rock face from the east side was very different, to Cascade Mtn., Rundle Mtn, to Mr. Edith, Effi, Louie.
Yet I knew many Banff residents had NOT climbed them---there is your difference & why I compliment those taken in the photo of going up & coming down for in thier future.
