And so the sons shall continue to be punished for the sins of the father. I don't actually blame Japanese for wanting to hide their 'sins', who would want to admit to the things they did. They should and I do feel it would be better if the truth be known publicly ie: public school systems. However those that are here today had nothing to do with that war. I wasn't even a thought when we enslaved the black man in America, nor were my parents, however I refuse to be held "responsible" for what my great grand parents did 200 years ago. I believe we should never forget, but don't dwell on it. The Japanese are guilty in their own sense for the way they view the war, but that doesn't make them guilty of committing the crimes their forefathers did. Not owning up to what someone else did nearly 70 years ago, does not make them guilty of those crimes. My 2 cents. You can't move forward until you take it out of reverse....

It's Obama's fault. It's Bush's fault. Really? Has no one paid any attention at all to what's happened in this country the past 7 years?

If an iota of argument can be made as to 'who's' fault it is, it would be Bush. But it's not even credible in my opinion.

What brought America to it's financial knees, is 1. Investors. 2. The banks and mortgage companies. 3. Wall street. 4. The feeble minded Americans who thought it would be a great idea to buy a house at prices so inflated they'd need twice thier current pay to even remotely afford the homes they bought.

It started with home prices being driven up, in 2005 mostly by investors buying up homes in states where housing prices were comparatively cheap. They were buying up everything in sight in these states. Then flipping them for a crazy profit. As real estate goes goes, sold houses effects the 'prices' of other homes in the neighborhood. So all the other homes start going up in 'inflated' value. This keeps going until it got to the point where investers could only sell to investors. However they were too expensive for the average Joe to buy anymore. Many cities started reporting shortages of people applying for police, fire, and governmental jobs because they couldn't afford to buy, or rent homes in the areas they would have to move too. This is a problem for banks and mtg companies as they're not selling enough loans. So the banks had a great idea. Let's not ask for any down payment. Let's not even bother checking credit, or even verifying employment. The banks also thought it would be a great idea to help sell these homes by getting everyone "qualified" by selling them arms, interest only, and low cost balloon payment types of loans. The banks and mtg companies new full well this wasn't going to last. I even saw the problem coming. I had no idea as to the extreme finanical impact it would have, but I knew the prices homes were selling at was not sustainable. Now, almost anyone could qualify for a 450k loan. This runs rampant across the states. However, the state governments are loving it. They've more than doubled "housing sales tax" revenue income, with the houses selling at 60% or higher increase in sales, and people going nuts buying homes, because they couldn't qualify before. The government of course builds this newfound revenue increase into their budgets.. State government gets bigger. Developers start going nuts, building new homes to cash in on the freefor all. Many new employees hired to help in the mass building of homes. However, in 2008 as prices leveled, when the 2-3 year arms and ballons start coming due, the banks and mtg companies noted the payment issues immediately. People that were easily making payments of 900.00 - 1200.00 a month, all of a sudden had to start paying 2700 - 4000.00 a month. They can't do it. The writing was on the wall. It was time to sell. So banks and mtg companies started to package these ill fated loans, mixed in with many 'good' investment schemes, and sold them to the powers that be in New York. Wall street. The banks and mtg companies couldn't sell these things fast enough. Wall street is now trading these worthless loans with the rest of the finacial investment world including the feds. , hiding as deeply as possibly into the profiles of "good" investments as possible. Yes, wall street figured it out quickly too. Now, almost every credible financial instituion in the country has an ugly share of these bad loans. Talk about 'trickle down economics", this was the grand daddy of them all, as people started losing homes, businesses started letting go of employees, because people couldn't afford to buy much at all anymore. People are losing jobs left and right. Governments, all of sudden, aren't getting these incredible home sales revenue anymore, and as well burning through unemployment funds faster than any other time in history. So government has to start letting go of employees. The feds are also now losing revenue in tax funding because of the job loses, business losses, (how many major companies have gone by the wayside during this time?) 10's of thousands of businesses failed during this time. The stocks of course start crashing, almost 6000 points because of this, devaluing companies out of business. This in turn, came to be the financial crises that American is now in. States are in financial trouble almost having to consider bankruptcy, the banks and mtg companies and all the other "suckers" that bought the bad loans are also falling apart losing because so much revenue is now disappearing, the jobs keep going away, businesses start failing from loss of sales due to the lost jobs and everyone else that does have a job is scared to death to spend a dime they don't have to.

What did Bush have to do with this? What did Obama have to do with this? Nothing. It's not Bushes or Obamas fault. And yet of course it's Obama's mantra to throw his inability to bring on a recovery on the "Bush administration". As if Bush had anthing to do with housing meltdown. The argument that I see here about how "republicans" fought Obama on everything and that's why he couldn't get anything done is also bunk. The house and senate were both democratically ruled. For 2 years, Obama had the chance to offer something reasonable to congress as far as budgets, health care, etc etc etc. His "own" people refused to pass his budgets. What's that say about Obama?

This is why we are where we are. Not because of Bush, or politics.

Isn't losing about 4 tenths of a year kinda marginal? If this were to start a downward trend over the years and you end up only living 75 years, then maybe blame the food. But what happens if Japan surpasses Hong Kong next year? Need a little more time I think before bringing down the hammer on the big macs =D. Oh.. I don't eat fast food.. that stuff'l kill ya.

Well, right now we have 'some' government controls in the market, albeit weak ones, and you see where we are now. I can't imagine how much vaseline we'd need if they were left to take care of themselves...... There is a balance that needs to be found in government. No way just democrats, or just republicans can run a country. Checks and balances have to be in place. And even then there's always loopholes. We're being led around by the nose now as it is...I'm afraid to see what happens if obama wins again, but I can't stand romney... do we go socialist.. or feed the big angry corporate machine.....=/ I wanna move to Japan anyways... watch the destruction from afar...

Sooo.. my question is, when the students are interviewing for a job with a company, do they interview for a "position" or just for work within the company. Seems to me that if the position were clear to both employer and candidate this wouldn't happen in the first place....

I don't think he killed anyone because of "batman", this person is simply deranged, he chose a place and time and did what he came to do. He could just as easily shown up at a spiderman movie and claimed to be some known villain from that cartoon. My 2 cents. he knew the place was going to be completely packed because of the batman premiere showings that night. He was out to kill as many people as he could.

I just spoke with a friend of mine in Japan. For me, to read this article, I would agree with most all of you.. they guy just sounds evil. However after speaking with my friend, he tells me that most Japanese understand his methods better and are not so shocked at his statements. He explained to me, that if he were to give the typical hype kind of, do your best speech, that it brings no media attention. That he says things in this way to get the media there. Obviously a media hound. But that he's not actually saying that their losing their individual lives, but rather warning them that they will be scrutinized by the people for their every action. To get them to do the best job they can, but with the understand that the people will be watching. An overkill motivational speech if you will. Are there other Japanese in Osaka that feel this way?

So, since ISP companies have always charged an extra fee for a static IP, typcially 10 - 20 a month extra, because IP's were in shortage with IPV4, does that now mean ISP's will now start giving us all the IP's we need for free? (im laughing at myself now) But it's a fair question right?

    COS;

I do, totally. What about spending officially 18 billions (and in reality probably 3 to 5 times this) ? Isn't it the case that we could feed all the malnourished people of the planet with this budget ?Conclusion : the US is a much much much bigger waster than North-Korea. And we can read :

I can't believe you even tried this comparison?? Another no brainer (meaning, you have no brains). Does the US waste money? Hell yes. We do a lot of things wrong here. However, we have never taken money from people that needed to eat to survive to play with our toys. You're trying to compare 2 completely different economic situations. We don't allow MILLIONS of people to die because they have no food to eat. Forgive me for quoating wikipedia but,

"Estimates state that, from a population of approximately 22 million, between 900,000 and 3.5 million people died from starvation or hunger-related illnesses"

We don't allow this in America. How can you possible compare the 'wasted money' in America to what Korea wastes? Yes, we waste, but not at the expense of our peoples lives... Please, at least attempt to keep this apples and apples

Nobody intentionally STARVES their own people

You don't think spending 500m to 750m on a space (cough) project, instead of spending that kind of money on food products, either bought, or grown, or towards technology to grow more and better food isn't "intentionally wasting"?? Do you have any idea how much food that could have purchased, or applied towards growing food? Do you actually have any brains at all? N Korea needs to stop EVERYTHING they are doing, and start working on feeding their people. I don't care WHERE they get it from, they NEED it.

Sitting in that chair attempting to defend NK's actions is only going to be painful for you in room full of individuals that can see this difference.

A few North Korean scientists will be sent to the gallows today, no doubt

Hoserfella, this is a scary thought. I have been talking with my friends in Japan today. They tell me that this is not far from the truth. Here's the scary part. If (big if) N Korea selected their best scientists to build this missile, and they go to the gallows (this could be true if not worse), who is going to build the next one? Their second best??

Losers: North Korea - 1 Missile - Perhaps 10M plus Japan - 50 Missiles purchased from the U.S AND Tax Money wasted setting them. Lets say 100M

Umm. Netnija, your numbers are off just a tad bit. Let's be a little more realistic

    N korea 1 Missile - guessing 400,000,000 to 750,000,000 US

Japan 500 land to air missiles. Ummm.. Wait.. they already had these, since they weren't purchased just for this event - $0. Fuel to move ships and land missiles into place.. 100,000 - 300,000US I see a completely different loser here.

And the reason everyone wants it to fail, is because it is pretty commonly known that N. Korea already has the technology to make nuclear weapons. We don't WANT N Korea to have the ability to lob these things at others every time THEY do something ignorant and are chastised for it. These morons STARVE their own people while wasting money on "satellite" failures? (gotta bridge in New York waitin on ya) . Where is the common sense in this? How about spending that money on technology to create more food for their people?? Are you not seeing the lack of any real cognizant grey matter here??

to coincide with Sunday’s centenary of the birth of its founding leader Kim Il-Sung.

Most countries have large lavish parties or festivals. N Korea celebrates the birth of a leader by spending who knows how many hundreds of millions of dollars, to throw metal into the ocean while it's country starves to death??

Miss Nguyen, as a side note. I attended the Phoenix Matsuri here in Feb. There was a large number of kids dressed in their fav manga and anime characters. Otaku may still be viewed negatively upon in Japan, (there is much dissent over this) but it is reaching out around the globe. I wish I could post pictures here for you. =)

You miss the point Ayler. AKB48 is using their name to contribute. Japanese culture is vastly different from other countries. Manga, anime, Otaku is bigger than you know. We in America, grab for the popular to offer help in whatever way possible. That's all the Japanese have done. Whether or not AKB48 members 'owned' the money or not, it comes in their name. AKB48 is not donating here, they are trying to offer help. AKB48 is huge in Japan, and needs no ticker tape parade for acknowledgment. Sonny

I'm familiar with AKB48. I'm not a fan, but I know of them. If they are actually doing something to help their country in a positive way why all the harsh words? So you don't like them. How about at least considering what they do for their country? Maybe the Japanese government knows a little bit more to AKB48 than just music and dancing... Is this a definitive answer to the problem? Probably not, but can it truly hurt? But I think to shoot down a group of people for at least trying is not the best route to supporting our friends in Japan. Their government is asking for their help, and they are at least doing what they can to provide help. Many here are worried about acronyms and female imagery. Does anyone at least see the effort of AKB48? They are simply asking Japanese to help those that they feel may be at a point in their lives where they feel suicide is the only way out.
