“But it could possibly result in Tokyo metamorphosing into a city overrun by foreign multinationals."

errrr no because (as far as the industry I work in) they are mostly moving to Hong Kong and Singapore which have tax rates and employment laws more suitable for foreign multinationals.

Women should consider taking more precautions when walking alone at night, they are seen as softer targets after all. At home most women wouldnt think of walking home at 1230 at night and I will be expressing that message to my daughter when she gets older here. Just get a taxi.

There are some proper nutters about. At Christmas i was walking my baby in the pushchair in Kichijoji, some Japanese guy cycled passed on the pavement and intentionally kicked the pushchair and sped off. I turned to give chase but soon stopped in my tracks realizing the push chair would be left unattended. There was nothing else I could do other than scream blue murder down the street after him and he know it.

a politician who went to war to win an election,>

She went to war because Argentina invaded a British overseas territory and she wasn't going to abandon British citizens and I support that. The Odds were actually stacked against Britain winning that war.

Ansen in Nishi Ogikubo. A small family run bakery and their french bread is lovely, their apple pies are the nuts too!

I'm getting rather fed up with the rush hour trains, so I get off earlier and walk, which takes more time but i think its nice to have a 30 minute walk in the morning and the evening to clear my head. I might even cut out the trains all together and cycle the 12kms.

The French word PENSION, used for guest house, B&B or small hotel in the UK means nenkin.

If I was to say to my mates back home that I was going to stay in a pension for the weekend, they would think i'd gone prematurely senile.

What really worries me about all this, is that if you read the related link about the Korean man getting beaten up at Yasukni shrine, the police moved to arrest him for making a peaceful protest. These right wing guys in Shin-Okubo are intimidating a community in their neighbourhood and the police appear to have done nothing!

I laugh at myself these days because I first came to Japan on a working holiday. I laugh at myself because I wasn't really aware that work and holiday do not go together in this country. I mean seriously, a weeks holiday (5 working days off) is considered a long holiday? Some of the guys I work with don't even take any holiday because they seem to be under some illusion of grandeur that the worl will stop revolving if they aren't at their desks.

It would be funny if it just wasn't so sad in reality.

And so the neighbours should feel guilty. If you can hear children crying non stop all night and all day on a regular basis, clearly something is very wrong. Even if they didnt have the balls to go and check themselves, they should have notified the authorities FFS. People turn a blind eye way too much in this country. As a person who is new to fatherhood, this story makes me really mad.

****I will definitely protect Japan’s agriculture and food.****

I read between the lines here

" I will continue to heavily subsidize, at the expense of the Japanese taxpayer, noncompetitive farmers lifestyles, so that they can continue to produce bog standard produce and have the domestic market cornered whilst charging those same Japanese taxpayers extortionate prices because its 'made in Japan'.
